I just came across a special edition silhouette called An abundance of babies by Marie Ferrarella but it isnt the one, which is very similar! I am almost starting to feel like the book doesnt exist. Any of you feel that way while looking for a book? I was searching through vintageromances. You said you read the book in the early 's so I've only been looking for books in that time frame, but could it also have been published in the 's?
Also, is there anything you remember about the cover, such as color maybe? It is possible it was published in the late 90s. I was thinking the cover had yellow and blue on it Nov 18, , 6: Pregnant female butler 8-months along. The book summary doesn't mention surrogacy, but the term did show up two times when I searched for that term in Google Books. XD The heroine is a surrogate for her aunt and uncle though. Yea I had a feeling the summary wouldn't mention surrogacy, but I was wrong about the sister and husband.
Thank you so much! Once i saw the cover, I realized I have seen it before. Let me know if you need help finding a book, I'll be sure to return the favour. Hi guys i'am so glad to have found this place I have been looking for this Victorian romance about the hero being engaged since he was young by his father. He falls in love with his newfound bride and so does she. But she tries to be more of a lady and so his best friend teaches her how to act in society while our hero is on a trip The sister in law is in a wheel chair and is trying to get rid of the heroine and also there are snipets of their past lives Sorry if it sounds confusing but I' ve been looking for this book forever!
Dec 11, , My name is Florecer and I am a new member of this group. First let me answer the question of Nyah99, the post number 84 about the last novel: Here a leave the book description. He cannot honorably deny them, but he won't be forced into marriage. Encountering a respectable governess in scandalizing circumstances, Gareth demands her help—to make him entirely ineligible.
He educates the buttoned-up Miss Jessica Gifford in the courtesan's arts. But Gareth hasn't bargained on such an ardent, clever pupil—or on his passionate response to her! He wanted to cause a stir—it seems they are about to brew a scandal! The list the list in the correct order is: Now is my turn to have a question. I am looking for a book whose name and author I can not remember. The plot was somthing like this: This man promises to free one of the sisters if the other promises to stay with him. One of them grants the motion and gradually discovers that the villain has a noble heart.
I read the description when I was looking for other books to read, but never wrote down the data of this book to read next. If any of you could tell me the name of the book or author, I am very grateful for your help. Okay, I read this book several years ago, and can't remember what the title or author is.
Its a Regency romance. The main female lives in the slums of England. I don't really remember who the hero was, he was an earl or something i think, and he takes her in and makes her over. But near the end of the book I think they have a fight and she returns to the slums just as a cholera outbreak hits.
She has a prostitute friend who dies and because she then catches cholera as well, she loses the baby she was pregnant with.
Home for the Holidays
I don't know the book and really want to read it again. She is English but she grew up in the Paris slums. The Earl seeks her out for revenge complicated plot and then agrees to marry her back in England. They have a short lived blissful time but then have a big disagreement she learns the truth about him and she goes back to Paris and the slums. There is a cholera epidemic there after she leaves him in England. I think she did lose a baby, but I can't remember for sure. It was a really good book. He has a scarred face and this is the last of a trilogy of brothers. Woohoo, a success story!
Yay for a happy ending! I never know these, which is weird because I've read so many romances. Hi,I m looking for a harlequin I read many many years ago. The heroine is english and visits her cousin who lives in a farm in France i think with her husband. The heroine also helps out in the farm. Her cousin tries to ruin everything she does around the farm -remember an incident where the heroine cooks soup for the farm workers and the cousin drops soap in it on purpose to ruin it. The farm owner who is her cousin's brother in law is very prejudiced against her.
I want to read it again! Can't believe it really! I ve been looking for this book for so long and you just found it right away! I ve got another one but I am afraid that's much harder to find since I remember so little of it It's all thanks to the person who runs the Vintage Romances website. She breaks each book down by keywords and I use that to help me look for your book. I'm afraid the other book you are looking for is much harder since there isn't a lot of information to set it apart from any other medical romance, but I will try.
Hi everyone I was wondering if you can help me figure out the title of this book I read a little over a year ago It has to do with a wealthy girl who runs away from home to find herself in the streets. She becomes friends with a group or a "gang" of pickpockets. I distinctly remember that most of them were good kids expect for one of them who I believe was named Jack? I'm not quite so sure. There was also a character which was a small boy who grew fond of this girl. She would read to them every night.
She also fell in love with the leader of the "gang". The mean boy Jack tried to force himself on her and was shunned from the group. Jack teams up with an evil man who is the leader of a rival pickpocket gang and they try to take them out. By this time the girls older brother finds her and takes her back to her rich lifestyle. Can anyone help me? Theres also a sequel to that book. It is set later when the girl is a young lady and she meets again with the kid she fell in love with and they have an affair and blah blah you know the rest haha.
Anyways something happens that she goes back to where she lived neighborhood and gets herself really sick. The lord comes to find her and her prostitute friend tells him that she died and was in this building where they keep the bodies. He finds her on the table and she was bleeding she had lost the babe and she recuperates and they live happily ever after I also believe he was extremely rich and he left his rather luxurious home to live downtown paris or another setting because something happened In any case, that's what I've been looking into.
Most of them seem to be doctor-nurse romances, but I couldn't find a nurse-patient book that fits your description. It's harder with older books because sometimes there isn't a description available, the description is short, or the description is vague. Would you like to do search on your own? Starlight genie - thank you so much for your help, I will try this website you mentioned! I was wondering if you could help me figure out what book this is it has be bugging me for ever not being able to figure it out! I remember very little about the book. I can't remember the title, author or even the character's names since its been a while since I read it The children aren't her own.
The kids were given up by their parents, because they were poor. Everyone is under the impression that the husband is kind by taking in these poor kids, but in reality he abuses them. I think he might've even been a pedophile? No one knows his secret except the heroine. But she escapes with these children and tries to go back and save the rest of them. I don't quite remember how she meets the hero of the story, but I think he's titled as well and he tries to help out the heroine by formulating a plan since her husband is well-known.
Random facts I remember about from this book is that the heroine was also abused by her husband and I think punished by being put in a cage? Hope that made sense P Crossing my fingers that someone recognizes this novel! Feb 13, , 1: Hello all new here as well. I know a knight inherits land but when he gets there its been razed.
The cover was all reds with a girl leaning backwards in a beautiful gown with a man holding her i think but i might be blending stories Thank you! Hi klkeefe, I think I read something like that not to long ago though it wasn't medieval but more Regency. But it rings a bell. Not sure if I'm not mixing up two books though. It sounds a little like Fairest of them All by Theresa Medeiros, but I don't think the plot points all match up.
The heroine is a beauty in disguise, but I don't remember the land being razed. I have been searching for a contemporary romance novel for years. The heroine thinks she is dating a guy but he is an FBI agent? I believe she is a secretary and it looks as if her boss is involved in baby smuggling or some other type of illegal activity. She is taken down to the police station, in front of everyone at work I believe and the young brash agent along with his older much more mature partner question her for hours. The brash agent even scares her by mentioning having to go into witness protection.
They are apparently holding her long enough so they can install a wire tap in her house. When she meets up with him the hero who wants revenge against this man kidnaps her and gets shot in the process. I think the guy was going to kill her after she gave him the information. They hole up in a hotel for a while, he is a widower and his ex-wife was a supermodel?
Remember her having to wear some of her clothing and then they made out on the balcony but he gets distracted when he sees the magazine she was reading which has the dead wives face on it. They fall in love and get together for the first time while out dancing one night. I also believe she is a red head and is described as making a transition as the story goes on gaining confident and not appearing as mousy in looks anymore. Sorry for the long post guys, this book has been driving me crazy!
I think it was a Harlequin romance but I'm not positive. Here is what it's about: The book starts in the past when the main female character's father had just died. Her best friend's brother - whom she had a crush on as a child - asks her to marry him as a friend and move away - I think to the middle east, maybe Dubai? Anyway, the female character was a librarian at home but when they move away, he is busy working in the construction business, so she begins writing.
She becomes a very popular crime writer while they are away - unbeknownst to him. Then his father has a heart attack and they must come home - I'm thinking about 3 yrs later. While back home they must act like an actual couple - so they have to sleep in the same room and of course things begin to change. While home he is asked to take over his father's company, and he also finds out about her writing accomplishments - and of course they start to have a relationship.
Does this sound familiar to anyone??? Hope someone can help! I'm hoping someone will be able to help me find a book that I read in the late 80's or early 90's The male was wrongly sent to serve out a sentence in the penal colony. There is a ship with a mate named Toby. The story progresses with bits and pieces of past lives of the man and woman and how they are trying to find their way to each other. Part of the story is about white roses and red roses and what they stand for.
Either stained glass or paintings in the manor house sparks a memory for Elyse. It was a great book I read as a teenager.
Sind Sie ein Autor?
My mom cleaned out my hoards of romance novels years ago. I have tried searching on-line. It's tough not remembering the title, author or even the characters names. Does this sound familiar to anyone???? Later as an adult he meets up with his childhood friend, who is the heroine of the book. Feb 19, , Hello, another new member: I am so glad I found this! It is a regency romance and the heroine for some reason disguises herself as a footman? He goes to extremes to keep her safe, even almost killing her because a fire breaks out while she is locked in her room.
He becomes very close to the heroine and has a strange attraction to her strange because he doesn't know she is female and he is a known skirt chaser. I also really remember that her gender is revealed during a fencing match between the two of them. One other thing was that during a dinner, she was sitting next to him after being revealed as a woman and he took advantage of the fact she was wearing pants if you get my drift?
Maybe she was pretending to be another nobleman? I really wish I could remember more! I'd appreciate it if anyone can think of any books this could possibly be: She's disguised as a nobleman, not a footman, but I really think this is it! I think you are right. I know it's something that I have read. Absolutely Duchess By Night. New to this group and plagued with title of book i read in the late 80's early 90's.
Set in California I believe Heroine called Mel finds she has improbably only a few months of fertility left to her. Sets out to seduce someone, fails and then asks her brother's best friend also her best friend who lives nearby. He finally accepts the challenge and things get going to make her pregnant.
This was quite a witty story. Finally she has twins and marries the guy. Sorry forget the guys name but the jerk of a brother was Donny. Maybe The Stud by Barbara Delinsky. It was something like that but I'm not sure about the brother and twins. No that does not sound right. Sorry but the title is just ticking away under my consciousness and I am sure I will recognise it I'm looking for a book I read back in the late 80's. I think it was on a plantation in the carribean or Bermuda. The heroine and hero were in love, but the heroin was kidnapped or got lost and lost her memory and the villan made her believe she was his wife.
Hello I am looking for An American historical not really a western. The heroine is a "plain" school teacher for a small town. The he is a investigator with a gorgeous partner that everyone thinks solves all the cases but its really him he is seen as the slacker.
He is caught in the her house overnight and they are forced into marriage. While looking into cattle murders for her bestfriends fathers ranch. Is sent to the hospital. He starts feeling sorry for himself and never wants to se her again. She moves close to the hospital and becomes an architect building him a house with rails that he can get around in.
In the end they are seen to have a small son. I'm looking for a book that I believe is Historical, but I'm not completely sure. If I'm not mistaken, at one point the heroine buries something she was reading because her uncle would take it away from her if he saw it. I am hoping you can help me track down a historical romance book.
The female character starts out at a convent which her brother placed her in for punishment in not following his orders. I think he wanted her to marry someone. She was then kidnapped by the main male character, enemy of her brother, where in the process she was cut by a knife in her leg by her guards. She remained loyal to her brother throughout the book even though everyone tries to convince her otherwise. I think the brother had six fingers on one hand I really hope someone can help me with this, since I can't seem to get it out of my head and I'm driving myself crazy. I read a book in probably early to mid 90's, contemporary romance.
The heroine is a secretary for a law firm, barely making ends meet, raising 2 younger brothers and taking care of a sick grandfather. The hero is a lawyer, maybe state attorney, he's wealthy. Typical story line they go out, she gets pregnant, he finds out and tries to "do the right thing" she, of course, is too proud to take the help. Anyway, it all ends happily ever after but to save my life I can't remember the name of the book.
Any of this sound familiar?? I was absolutely thrilled to come across this, and appreciate any help that I can get. A couple of year's ago, I read a book thatwas, for the most part, set at the turn of the 20th century I think Somehow, a modern day girl ended up switching bodies with a girl from the era the modern girl being nicely adventurous and the historical girl a complete witch. Regardless, the once-modern-now-stuck-in-the-past-heroine falls in love with two brothers, who were the results of a similar attachment between their mutual mother and different fathers.
If any of you remember such a novel, I would greatly appreciate some direction! Z Mar 30, , There are these 2 historical romance novels that i cant remember the name of and its driving me crazy!! The 1st one is about the hero marrying a pickpocket off the streets of london just to get back at his father and then dumps her there. I think he was drunk or something and she tries to rob him and his friend and he catches her and forces her to marry her. Shes actually suppose to be an aristrocat who got kidnapped when she was young. I remember then the heros father teaching her how to be a lady and then launching her into society and shes all beautiful and witty and successful.
The hero falls for her without realising shes his wife and i remember how she kept visiting the streets to feed some orphans or something and the hero meets her there again asking for a divorce or something along the lines: S The 2nd book is about this girl who runs her own estate and shes yound an spirited and loves her home more than anything.
I remember in the book she travels to his house disguised as a boy and tried to kill him with a knife so that she can have her estate back. I think her name was "kit" in the book. When the hero realises shes his ward he sends her off to school for young ladies. When she gets back shes all beutiful n stuff and i think they fall in love but the hero has his doubts that she loves the estate more than him: S Anyway if someone can please tell me the names of these books i would be eternally grateful!! Z Mar 31, , Sorry it's kind of fuzzy. I have been trying to remember the name of this book for a little while.
I read it a few years ago. It is a historical romance set in England and this girl is forced to marry a man from close to or in Scotland I think. I know that on their way to his home after they are married they have to stop at this fort where she is almost raped. She hates it where he lives but somehow learns to love him. I can't remember why but she ends up leaving and going back to her parents house towards the end of the book. She finds out after she gets there that shes pregnant. The man shows back up to get her right as she goes into labor in the garden.
That is all I remember and I hope someone can help me figure out what this book is. I know I have the book somewhere but in moving three times in two years it is missing and I can't have my husband help me look if we don't know what to look for. I think this is one of Julie Garwood's books, but I can't remember which one. There's a storm or something, and both end up having to stay in the house for the duration of the project.
Of course, they fall back in love during their time in the house. I think there was also something about their unborn babies casting a spell to make them fall in love - it might have been part of a matchmaking babies series. Sounds weird, but it was a really good book! If anyone knows the title or the name of the series, please let me know: I'm looking for a book I read years ago. It's a western historical romance. All I remember about the plot was that she's a red head that is indentured to a horrible individual.
Afterward a group of men from their tribe show up and she falls for one of them. I forget exactly what he is in the tribe, but I think he may have been some sort of medicine man or other well respected man in the tribe. Anyway, if it sounds familiar please let me know. It wasn't new, but I forget when it was published. I am looking for a book I read at least 10 years ago. I believe it was set in Victorian times and involved a young woman that stows away on a ship, but she is dressed as a boy so she is the servant to the male character.
I think when they arrive at the mainland, she does something with the theater or is a singer. Anyway, as the story progresses, she ends up pregnant wich is unknown to her love interest, and she saves a small child from a burning pile of leaves which then causes her to have a miscarriage. Does this sound familiar to anyone? I read the first few chapters of this book a few months ago and cannot remember the title or author and it's driving me nuts! Anyway i believe it's a historical romance set in old England sometime. And it's about a young lady who is poor and lives with her father on a rich man's property.

She used to play with the masters son whe they were children but they grew apart and she sees him again now that they are older and they don't get along. She gets in some trouble money wise I think and he offers to help. She makes a deal with him that once a week or something he gets to do whatever he wants with her for an increasing amount of time. So it starts with like 60 seconds and goes to 2 minutes and so on. That's all I remember.. I'm dying to read the rest! I'm just going to jump right in It's a contemporary romance She then is questioned at the police station and the hero, who she had strong feelings for, basically abandons her and leaves town.
I remember the funeral scene where the heroine, no longer a suspect, tries to hold the hero's hand but he wouldn't let her. Fast forward, the girl is grown up now, she stayed at the mansion where she was raised, taking care of the family business when the hero returns. The matriarch is now old and needs to decide who she wants to leave the bulk of her inheritance to - the hero grandson or heroine adopted or family friend's daughter who has been with her all this time or something like that.
Name That Book | Romance - from historical to contemporary | LibraryThing
I remember something about the heroine still being haunted by the night she discovered the murder scene, she has nightmares and screams in her sleep. I think she also sleepwalks. In the end the matriarch gives everything to the grandson. Can anyone help me figure this out? I know my description isn't very good but hopefully it will trigger someone's memory. Its a historical romance set during WW2. Consummation was a rape scene! They got a son,Luis. Both had lovers outside marriage and apparently the hero was spying on the Germans This book had many themes.
At the end the hero's family was killed off one by one by his best friend,Armand who was also a German spy and also the heroine's lover?! The heroine gets shot at the end and recovers while they run away from France. Apr 13, , Dainty C on 47 I realize that it has been a long time since you posted this, but I think the book you are looking for is Shanna by Kathleen Woodiwiss. I sure hope that someone can help me with this one - it's been tickling the back of my mind for years!! This is a really old one, probably from or so.
Two young brothers are on a ship, sailing from France to America, with their parents and sister. In a storm, the younger brother is swept overboard and rescued by a couple who own a Southern plantation but could have no children of their own. The rest of the family is rescued together and end up settling in the North. Flash forward several years to the advent of the Civil War. The older brother Alex? Somehow the two women Southern belle and Northern secret agent meet and figure out that they are in love with the brothers separated so long ago.
There was something hinky about the woman who rescued the younger boy and was scared that he would abandon her now that he found his real family, but I can't remember the details. In any event, everyone lives happily ever after. I remember the book so fondly, but I have not a clue as to the title or the author. Dainty C from 47 Did you ever find your third book? Finally found it on another site. I'm hoping someone can help me find this book! It's been awhile since I read it but I remember it was about a lost princess or aristocrat who was in danger and her maid ran away with her, the maid ended up dying and the girl was raised and worked at an inn, she had some kind of scar on her wrist that resembled a birthmark or something that only her family had or it was branded on her, I can't remember!
I can't remember names, I think the male character may be scarred and the castle or palace or whatever has "raven" in it, maybe. I know it sounds similar to "Once a Princess" but this is a different book. Please and thank you! Apr 23, , 8: I am looking for a romance book that has the heroine as a blond model who was adopted and has a spoilt sister the natural child of the parents that talks her into using a condom filled with sperm to get pregnant from her sisters boyfriend as a surragate.
The sister and the weak but funloving brother of the hero go off for a dirty weekend and have a car accident which kills the brother but not the spoilt sister. She goes into hiding but is believed dead. The heroine calls and announces that he should come and get his daughter to the complete surprise to the father.
She thinks he knows all about the child. The heroines sister told her she was infertile when she wasn't so she could get her hooks into the father by pretending she was the mother. The heroine and the hero marry and the sister shows up again but I can't remember the rest. Anyone know this book? It's driving me crazy! I have another one set in medieval times and the hero is hated by his father because when he was born it killed his mother during childbirth. The father names his son Cane. The son is forced into a marriage with a blond girl who was destined for the church.
When her brother is killed she has to give up the church and marry for her father to have heirs. I may be mixing two books together but hopefully not. Hello, I just joined and am thrilled to have found this site. I know I read it sometime in the past years, but I don't know when it was published. I have the story stuck in my head, but for the life of me I cannot remember the title or the main characters names. This novel was set in the American West, most likely during the 19th century but I am not sure when exactly.
The book starts off with an Eastern lady traveling out to her uncle's ranch in the west I think it was Texas? She was an eastern lady who came out to the ranch by train I think she was looking for a husband? She has a conflicted relationship with the ranch foreman or maybe he was just a ranch hand. She eventually becomes pregnant by him. They visit her family in the East, but her relative maybe a mother or an aunt? She doesn't know how to cook, or clean the house, or iron his clothes without ruining them and he mocks her for it.
He refuses to allow her to have servants or any household help as she struggles with her new responsibilities. Eventually she works herself into the ground trying to please him and she miscarries the baby that forced them to be married in the first place. There is some sort of slimy bad character who wants to cheat them out of the profits and success of all their hard work, but they defend themselves against him.. Eventually they realize they are in love and the well is a success. I would appreciate any help or advice anyone can give me!
It was a really powerful story. New to the group, I'm happy I found this site! I'm looking for the name and author of a book I read in the 's. I don't have a lot of details but I recall it was about a woman named Rose who fell in love with a highwayman. The Rose sticks in my mind as a moniker she was given after being with the highwayman for awhile but not sure about that.
Does this ring a bell with anyone? Apr 24, , The Toll-Gate by Georgette Heyer has a woman named Rose who is in love with a highwayman, but they are not the main characters. Apr 26, , The Toll-Gate is about a very tall woman living with her dying grandfather who's heir, a creepy cousin who with another creep are staying at her grandfathers. They have robbed a convoy of newly minted money with a new stamp, that they can't spend until the currency officially comes out. Into this comes an a very large officer or former officer who likes adventure who stops at the toll-gate and finds a boy alone because his father has not returned to the toll-gate.
His father is later found dead and a highwayman stops there occasionally to court the heroines governess or chaperone. The hero Jack I believe, falls for the granddaughter on sight. The get married at the grandfathers deathbed and the highwayman gets the reward for finding the gold.
The cousin and other guy don't survive. They have to save the reputation of the family by killing both the creepy cousin and his creepy friend! After reading through many of your posts I was reminded of authors I had forgotten about. I found my book. Wild Rose was the name given to the main female character.
This was one of the first romance novels I'd ever read and I remember loving the story. Came across another I had forgotten but enjoyed immensely: Amanda Rose by Karen Robards. The first part sounds like Lady of the West by Linda Howard but the last part where she loses the baby doesn't. Beck maybe you should check out Diana Palmer. She writes about Texans all the time but she didn't start until the s. Ooh I am so glad I found this group! This is one of my favorite romance books but I can't remember the name.
I think it takes place in Texas the title may include Texas. The heroine has beautiful long, red hair and she has amnesia. The hero claims her as his wife I think he's lying for some reason but she doesn't remember anything about herself.. The hero has a Native American best friend who is in love with a beautiful Native American girl who the hero saves from death. I think the mom's name might be Bertha. This is killing me! Hello, I am looking for the title of a book. It is the story an historic romance in the American West I think, she needs to marry and have a son to inherit her father's ranch well he died and that is stipulated in his will , so she marry a man that she freed from jail not sure about that , she was pregnant but miscarried because of a rival who poisoned her In the end she managed to keep the ranch as the will said she had to be expecting a boy, not to have a living child.
I am so excited to find this happy place! For the longest time I have wanted to find the first romance novel I ever read - sometime in the mid 90s - but I don't remember many details. I remember that the heroine came from an island and had been abused. She was rescued at sea by the hero's brother.
She can't remember much of her past. Somehow she is related to a wealthy family I think her grandfather is still alive and her dark past keeps resurfacing especially some very creepy guy. At one point, the hero thinks she has betrayed him to her family and becomes ruthlessly cruel. The hero becomes a successful owner of a ship construction company maybe even with her wealthy family.
I still remember the last scene - where she goes to visit him at the docks and their son runs to him. If anyone has any idea, I would be so happy and so grateful!! Looking for author of several romance books with a background theme of several women living together outside of the city in possible regency era England. They all must provide some form of income and they aren't allowed to pry into each others background. Each woman has their own book where the reader finds out about how she came to live with the other women, her background and of course finds love.
I remember one of the women is discovered by her husband who she ran away from right after her marriage when he comes to the home visiting with his friend who is married to one of the other women. They are both shocked to see the other one and he makes a strong demand for her to pack her things and be ready to go.
Of course her friend is afraid he might punish her and wants her husband to stop the forced departure. The Rarest Blooms series by Madeline Hunter. Hey, I am so excited to have found this group - I have been obsessing about finding this book and i hope someone can help me. I am looking for a book I read in mid 's. It was a regency or historical. He was going to humiliate him by selling her, but falls in love and marries her secretively.
He didn't soak English and she didn't speak his language so they used French to communicate. He refused to beat her so he used sex as a threat to train her to be a slave. He called her Le fleur. The cousins were both female and one was given to a friend. Oh and I think she had an aversion to cuffs because she was tied down as a kid because of a fever I haven't been able to find it anywhere. I'm looking for a historical romance, this book is in a series of books I read maybe 7 or 8 years ago.
What I remember is The lead male character is named Clayton he ends up marring this girl because they were caught doing something at night alone, I think what there were doing was completely innocent, I think the may have gotten married to save her from having to marry someone else, it took awhile for them to warm up to each other. Also the lead male has a duel with sole lord or duke or something and i think he ends up getting shot, but the other guys dies? I'm not sure I cant remember much else but if someone could help that would be awesome! It is the middle of a 3 book series.
But, Clayton Harcourt is the name of the hero. I'd love help remembering the name of a book I read when I was maybe in late teens, so around mid to late 70s. It was set in Australia, and was about a rancher who starts a ranch, brings an English bride to Australia, they make a life and have a family, but she never really loves it.
They hire a housekeeper and she and the rancher fall in love and have a long time love affair and I think even a child together. He dies in her arms at the end I think there's a fire involved, but that might be me confusing it with the Thorn Birds. I think the book might be the name of the ranch, but not sure. Is that obscure enough for you? Trying to locate a historical time travel romance book from at least ten years ago and possibly longer.
Modern day at the beginning - two couples travel from New England but I think Maine to England and the men buy an unusual box in an antique store. The store owner woman tells them if they are able to reveal the secret in the box they will discover something which has been long sought. There is a powder hidden the box which when inhaled enables them to travel back in time. I do not remember how it is resolved in the present after they return but I think they switch who they are married since they have affairs with the other spouse in the past. I think the first was written about four-five years ago with the last one in The four young men who live there have to determine if he is the father of the girl and what happened to the woman he may have impregnated.
The books are all tied together but each individual book involves each man's search as he rediscovers his lost love and what has happened to them. They try to keep the baby girl hidden from the other residents but are not able to. Since there are four books, the reader learns in the final book who the father is. Jul 4, , 8: I am not familiar with your time travel book but the second series you mentioned is The Runaway Brides series by Celeste Bradley.
I believe the series starts with Devil in My Bed. Thank you very much mamalaz. Looks like there are only three titles in this series. Shows you what happens to your memory. I am a librarian so I know what it is like to solve book puzzles when the customer does not have all the details straight like a three year old child and not a baby Hope someone is able to come up with the first book at some point.
When I retired, my reading list document containing all the titles, authors and synopsis for each book I had read for the past two years did not save correctly onto my flash drive. Of course, I did not find that out until after my work computer had been reconfigured. Since I read a book about every three days, that was a lot of carefully saved information and details lost. It sounds like one of Kate Moning's Highlander books which I read years ago obviously. I am trying to remember the title of a book that I read 15 or 20 years ago. It is about a young English woman who runs away or wanders off on the day of her arranged marriage.
He has assumed that she is a woman of the streets and doesn't believe her when she tells him her story. The plot has several twists and turns. The heroine befriends a young servant or slave who has been in love with the hero's friend for many years. There is also the woman scorned who plays a role in the plot. I remember that the heroine gets pregnant and eventually kills the villain with a sword when the hero is lured away. She is also reunited with her family when the hero arranges for them to come to Louisiana. Any help in identifying this book is greatly appreciated. I remembered another part of the story.
If I am not mistaken, the heroine meets her friend who has been in love with the hero's friend since she was basically a child by the way when the heroine tries to run away and is almost sold into slavery or prostitution with her new friend. I have a Name this Book question. Zebra Historical, I believe, The book started with a sad note. A son, I think, died very young. The heroine is very distraught, she lost a lot of weight and marriage failed. Time passed, she snapped out of her depression and tries to win back her stray husband.
I am hoping I could get help with this I remembered reading this many years ago and the story stuck It has a shiny silver cover. Heroine has red hair in the cover. I would greatly appreciate any help. Is there a website that I can search?? Here's another name this book. Published in the 90's. It's about two families united in marriage. The main character is accused of murdering his brother and sister-in-law very sure the sister-in-law's name is Debra.
He also develops a relationship with the daughter of a former maid or butler I think. Know this is vague but will appreciate any help. Believe she was an author after she disappeared.
Jude Deveraux " The Blessing". This has been posted on several different forums amazon, good reads, RTbookreviews without success for the last six years and now i've gotten the bug. I'm hoping someone can please help! I'm wondering if anyone can help me with finding the title and author of a historical romance I once read and have been looking for ever since. I can remember the heroine and the plot , but I can't remember the book's title or its author. If anyone can help it would be much appreciated! OK so here are the details: The heroine is sent off to be a type of "lady in waiting" in the French court in the beginning of the novel and I'm pretty sure it's set in the seventeenth or eighteenth century.
I seem to remember her name being Athena but I could be wrong - it may be something similar. She's blond and angelic looking and very delicate in physique She gets attacked on the streets and loses her memory and is saved by a man who takes her in as his daughter because she is strikingly similar to his own dead daughter. He raises her as his own and she eventually becomes the King's "mistress" but their relationship is never actually consummated. He eventually marries her off to someone and they fall in love but the man can't have sex with her as he is told that pregnancy may kill her.
Much of the novel is about their frustration and misunderstandings - i. I remember she gets reunited with her family after nearly being seduced by her own brother unknowingly of course - they do not know they are related. I also remember it ends on a happy note, but don't remember exactly what happened.
That's all I can remember - I hope someone can help! After a couple of weeks of random Google searches I found it listed on GoodReads. Flames of Passion by Sheryl Flournoy. I have read those Lisa Kleypas books--I think it's time to revisit them too. I've had trouble finding an old harlequin that I read in the late 90's early 's.
It was about a ward, I think her name was Alexandria, she was living with her sister and her sister's husband, but the sister was pregnant and couldn't handle taking care of her rebellious sister so they sent her to live with the husband's brother who was some sort of travel journalist and ended up being kidnapped while covering a story abroad? If anyone has any ideas that would be very helpful I've been trying to think of the name for a couple of years now!!! I just remembered at the beginning of the book Alexandria is dating some pretty boy named troy, they end up breaking up in the middle of the book.
Name That Book
I was telling a friend about a book I read in the 80s and now I'm going crazy trying to find it. I so hope one of you recognizes this story. The heroine Gabrielle saves a traveling captain who was shot at and falls off his horse. She takes him unconcious to her home where her uncle forbids her to see him because he doesn't want the man interfering with his plans to sell off Gabrielle in marriage. But Gabrielle starts sneaking into the man's room at night and becomes his phantom angel.
When he leaves she dresses up as a boy Gabe , meets up with him on the road and claims to be the one who saved him. As Gabe, she becomes his constant companion, verbally torments him incessantly, and continues to save him from more assassination attempts. But in the dark of night, she comes to him as his phantom lover. Because of this, he thinks he's going insane until Gabe has an accident on a ship, gets knocked unconscious and he discovers the truth.
I decided to take a chance and see for myself figuring that I could alwa A blizzard strands a curvy personal assistant with her alpha-wolf boss, who isn't as indifferent to her as he seems. I decided to take a chance and see for myself figuring that I could always return the book if I couldn't finish it. Boy am I glad I took a risk. Sara Allen is no doormat. She's unsure of herself and uneasy in the situation she's thrust into.
Especially since she's entertained romantic fantasies about her boss. She can't quite trust that the romantic vibe he's sending a pretty clumsy one, by the way isn't just wishful thinking on her part. Sara is quirky and funny. She's quick to laugh at herself, but not in a cruel way. Jarod is a pill. He's a little too pleased with himself in general. He does seem put out by the fact that his fated mate is something of a Plain Jane. There are points where I wished Sara would kick him in the shin and say, "Listen, buster, there are plenty of other hot wolves in this fictional universe.
Go make yourself another pretend billion and leave me alone. As long as the rough edges resolve themselves satisfactorily, we're fine. By the end of this book all of Sara and Jarod's edges are worn smooth. That said, the sex is well done. The erotic parts do not overshadow the rest of the book. Point of view is omniscient.
We get inside both Jarod and Sara's heads. This provides useful clues to character and motivation, but it can be disorienting at times. A third person POV, with the changes marked by chapter or even scene breaks, would have offered a smoother read. Also, there are multiple proofing blemishes. Not serious grammatical issues. These are small but obvious errors that should have been picked up during the final edit.
In such a short book, they got irritating at times. Overall, though, I enjoyed the story and the characters so much that I'm willing to overlook the editing. Jarod has a couple of brothers. At some point, I'd very much like to meet them on the page! Jan 13, Kristina rated it liked it. Unfortunately just as I thought it was starting to get quite good the story stopped short.
Jul 08, Raine rated it liked it Shelves: My second Marie Mason book. I really enjoyed that one a lot and gave it 5 stars. This one didn't get as good of a rating because the book was shorter. I also didn't really understand why Jarod waited 6 months before he finally made a move to claim his mate. Even though he wasn't able to be with a woman sexually since he scented Sara it seemed that he still tried to date other women because Sar My second Marie Mason book. Even though he wasn't able to be with a woman sexually since he scented Sara it seemed that he still tried to date other women because Sara mentions that no woman lasts more than a week with Jarod.
I'm sure he takes the women to dinner and tries to do other date stuff with the intention of getting them into bed, but then he eventually can't because he knows he's got a mate. A point against Jarod. I was also very disappointed that he didn't even seem to really acknowledge her as his mate or that he was attracted to her except for that first time.
Yes, I know that Sara does say that she seems Jarod looking at her, but then he manages to shut that down. He never really felt protective of her to make sure she ever gets home because he says that all the buses have stopped working. So he knows she takes the bus? He works her so late and he lets her take public transportation home? He finally says he'll drive her home because it was snowing so hard, but it finally takes a blizzard for him to do this?
Another point against Jarod. Jarod seemed to be a bit of a was a jerk and I'm not sure his mating feeling for Sara is all that strong since he was able to keep his hands off her for 6 months. Of course I'll read the next books in the series. I think the brothers seem interesting and maybe one of them will do the McCall name as well as being a wolf finding a mate more justice than Jarod has. May 29, Linda rated it really liked it. Jarod knew the first day Sara applied for a job at his company that she was his mate, but couldnt act on it.
Now months later, shes his assistant, and has no clue about being his mate. When theyre stranded together through a snowstorm - will things change? Can she believe that what shes wanted all along really has some truth to it? Quick read, PNR Romance and smutty fluff in a great combo. May 30, Erin rated it it was amazing Shelves: Wow, hot story in a very cold world, because they are snowed in. He knows she is his mate since the moment he saw her, but gives her time to get used to him before he takes action.

Now with them snowed in together at the company he can't help, but has to give into his needs as a wolf and claim her as his mate. She doesn't mind, because she liked him already a lot. When they finally really come together it is steaming hot and erotic. Nov 30, Paki rated it did not like it.
I was enjoying the book, till the moment they had sex and the H was all "you're my mate" and the h was like "ok". The h spent most of the book calling him a man whore which is why she didnt want to sleep with him, but the minute he decides to 'take' her, she cant wait to have sex with him. Aug 13, Paige Bookdragon rated it liked it Shelves: I enjoyed this one. Jul 31, Chanelle Nash rated it did not like it. What a pile of crap.
Well the ending was any way. The story itself wasn't too bad, could have been so much better. But I don't know how much more of the bad grammar, I could have put up with. She went from using British English with the word arse, to the rest of the book being American English. The male character for me was complete What a pile of crap. The male character for me was completely crass with his pillow talk, some of the things he was saying in my point of view should not be said to a virgin.
He is then asking her if she loves him, before he confesses his love for her and then tells her she had better love him. After having a crush on the guy the female character is then confessing her love and agreeing to have his babies. And another thing what the hell is knotted?
The dude got stuck, her muscled constricted and he got stuck, simple as that. There was a lot of head hoping and I'm pretty sure the order of the brothers got changed during the book. Now I could be wrong but I am sure that Jarod was not the oldest at the start and then became the oldest, when his brother Logan phoned before the story popped into his head. Did this book even see and editor, proof-reader? After reading this in a box set, where the other two books follow it, I am now stuck reading those two, lets just hope they are better than this one, in the grammar department.
Dec 17, Vicki rated it liked it Shelves: Jarrod McCall was her boss and super sexy and would never be interested in his curvy secretary. Then they are stranded together during a blizzard. Things get out of control. Nothing is as it seems. Sep 20, L M rated it liked it.
This was okay but Jarod was a bit of a jerk. His wolf knew Sara was their mate from the first time her saw and smelt her. The man had her working for him for 6 months as he would not accept it. During which time he dated a parade of bone thin glamorous models and actresses and basically ignored her because he thought she was a mousy little secretary. JERK Sara had a crush on Jarod but knew a wolf claimed their mate straight away so did not believe she was anyone important to him.
He is so lucky n This was okay but Jarod was a bit of a jerk. He is so lucky nothing happened to her in those 6 months or he would have been an idiot shifter. Then when they are trapped in the office due to a snowstorm proximity forces him to decide on mating her. Jarod takes her virginity and tells Sara he loves her and she is his mate. Sara needed to do better than him but she just accepts it all and tells him she loves him too. Sep 18, Angela rated it it was ok.
Between the huge editing errors, the lack of depth with the characters and plot, and the abrupt way it ended, it had too many issues to receive a higher rating. It had a good plot, and with some work, it could've easily been a 5 star book. I would've liked to seen more involvement with the wolves and their pack. It was discussed numerous times, but other than a phone call from his brother, no others were included. It does state that the H continued to date other women for 6 months after figuring out that the h was his mate, that he never had sex with anyone else during that time, but it never really gives a solid reason as to why he chose to do this.
Another thing that was brought up frequently, at least after they had sex, was that he had knotted her, which only happens between mates. I have read quite a few shifter books, but had never heard this term before. That would be ok, except that it wasn't explained what it was or the importance of this till almost the end of the book, and even then it was very vague. I tried to overlook the editing errors throughout the first part of the book, but they got so bad that it did start taking away from the story. There were different POV's used throughout the book, which would be fine, except that you couldn't tell when it changed from one to the next.
They changed from paragraph to paragraph, without any indicators that it had changed, or who the new POV was. I think that this book and author have potential, however the books need a good editor, and if the author could use more details, give more depth to the characters and the story, and create a solid ending that doesn't leave the relationship up in the air, I believe that there would be more higher ratings for the future books. I'm not going to recommend or not recommend this book.
I believe that there are some books that it depends on the individual as to weather or not they'll like it, and this is one of those books. If you're interested, request a sample of the book to determine if it is something that you will enjoy. Jun 16, Kittykills rated it did not like it. If I could I would give this one point on one star. Jun 22, Lisa rated it it was ok. There must be some reason why I bought these three books The story started off with promise, then proceeded to slip rapidly downhill Jacob was an arse, arrogant and just plain offensive - how an Alpha can ignore his mate for 6 months and still bang other women, but it takes a snow storm to lock them in the office together and he gets his "mating" including knots on There was little around the pack dynamics, lore or location of the pack.
Also not sure about the "inner voice of the wolf" being a sarcastic smart-arse!! Jacob has two brothers and they were briefly introduced into the story via a telephone call and the next two books are about them Not really a happy bunny: May 31, Catrina rated it liked it. Spoiler in Review While this story is well written, the hero sucks.
What in the world kind of alpha wolf shifter scents his mate only to proceed to ignore her for six months while he runs around playing the field?! I also had a hard time accepting the fact that Sara wasn't bothered enough by Jarod's behavior to look for some type of explanation from him about why he took so long to decide to claim her before just falling into his arms when he finally decides to take her. I can understand that S Spoiler in Review While this story is well written, the hero sucks. I can understand that Sara was overwhelmed by the powerful, passionate draw of her shifter mate, and I get that she is one of those BBW heroines racked with insecurity and lacking a sense of her own self worth my least favorite type of leading lady.
However even the most self deprecating of women should question how a wolf could so easily put aside the woman meant to be his while he whores around with other women and struts around in public with them on his arm. I wanted her to grow a backbone and make him put just as much effort into gaining her favor as he did into rejecting her. I can only hope that Logan and Hunter prove more worthy of their mates than Jarod does. Aug 02, Cindy Caron rated it it was amazing. A wonderful read about a human woman with low self-esteem, in love with her billionaire wolf-shifter boss, and completely unaware of the fact that she is his fated mate.
Until Fate decides to step in and give them the push they need, by snowing them in, alone, together, for a whole weekend. Oh, to have been a fly on the wall…. Mason has done a wonderful job with this story. Easy to follow with a beautiful plot that will have you wishing you were truly there, and not as a fly, but the main characters, of course. I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. Jun 23, Monica rated it liked it.
