I receive his emails every week and he keeps everyone informed on being a better consumer. If you want more bang for your buck, read this book.

I have followed Chris and his column the Travel Troubleshooter for years when I was on the road for work. Every day I would come into contact with customer service whether through hotels, airlines, rental car agencies, or buying products online for the business. I am a fan of Chris and his site but this book really changed my perspective and made me a better consumer.

I know what to look for even more in a company I am about to do business with and want to know which companies really take accountability for their actions. There is so much information out there and having a voice for the consumer makes a huge difference. It's your money you are spending, why shouldn't companies respect that as much as you do.

I regularly read Chris Elliott's blogs at [ Those posts are usually discussions about specific cases of customer service problems and occasionally scams. This book contains much more discussion about how modern marketing works and how big companies and scam artists alike manipulate us to give them our money. While it was interesting material, I found it a bit dry and wished for more concrete examples. As a previous reviewer said, "three stars for the book, plus one for the website.

Scammed by a Driver in Kuala Lumpur

I thought this book was going to be about how to deal with shady contractors who show up at my door or or fake mortgage companies, but that was just the tip of the iceberg. Not only does the book explain these lower case scams, but it gets into corporate identity scams, airline and hotel scams, and even more scams that go on all over the world that we fall for every day and are unaware of. The book has great anecdotes, amazing statistics, and Chris Elliott also has a great sense of humor.

It's worth buying this book alone just to see what Chris tells time share salespeople.

The best part is this book has already helped me when I got scammed by a major company last December. A must have for any consumer in todays corporate greed driven society. We need more consumer advocates like Mr. One person found this helpful. I love Elliott's website so I really wanted to like this book, but it showed that being a good consumer advocate is different from being a good writer. Most of the advice he gives in the book is unsurprising, standard material. At times it reads more like a self-development seminar than anything else.

I wish he had included more vignettes from his copious experience over the past decades to show how consumers are often shafted. Three stars for the book plus one star for the website. I read Christopher Elliot's blog and have learned a great deal about what not to do when dealing with travel agencies, airlines and the like from following him.

I bought his book kind of on a whim because I wanted something interesting to read when I traveled on New Year's weekend. The book came yesterday and I read it before I ever traveled.

It's that good and that educational. I always knew about rigged reviews even here on Amazon and usually only read the negative ones, but now know about SEO's and some of the ways big business manipulates all of us and outright lies to us to make sales. Well, not anymore for me!!! I wish I can put into a couple of paragraphs how good, how interesting and how educational this book is I mean in many ways it just confirmed things I sort of believed but wasn't sure if they were true ie. I am going to read the book again because the amount of information was so vast and I want to absorb it all.

This is a great read and, honestly, I know it will make me a better consumer and avoid being scammed or conned. The only negative to this book, for me, is that there wasn't an index in the back. I am giving it five stars because it really has so much information and is so easy and enjoyable to read, but I never understand why so many non-fiction books don't add indices. It just makes references things in the book that much easier.

Still, I highly, highly recommend the book!!!! See all 21 reviews. Amazon Giveaway allows you to run promotional giveaways in order to create buzz, reward your audience, and attract new followers and customers. Learn more about Amazon Giveaway. Set up a giveaway.
