SHORT STORIES, 41. The smart little Bird
You get a first hand account of the fail whale, the lean times, and the meeting with Zuckerberg offering to buy Twitter. But most importantly, this is a book about creativity and mad genius. It's brilliant and it will supercharge your own creativity.
When you finish it, you'll be smiling. If you read "Hatching Twitter" and you use Twitter a lot like me , then you'll like Biz Stone's insights on how Twitter was built and his advice on building a business of your own. His memories of how Twitter was born are definitely different than Nick Bilton, who wrote "Hatching Twitter" which was also a quick read and a great book , but Stone gives some great, positive advice on the lessons that he learned from the days when he started to run his own blog, then got hired by Google, then went off to work at Odeo, then to Twitter, and now to Jelly.
It's a positive, happy look back at his way to success. I give him credit for being so happy about all of the tough times that he went through while becoming successful. You only have one life, so you might as well be happy, believe in yourself and enjoy the ride.
Once I Saw a Little Bird
Kindle Edition Verified Purchase. Written in easy to access ie high school level prose. Biz tells his life story, not just the Twitter story. Candid, engaging, funny and honest. Very important for someone interested in the technology industry but does not have strong technical skills. While I'm sure Biz has more than he lets on, his role was to humanize the great technology that the engineers were producing.
One Little Bird
A critical piece of the puzzle. Twitter aside, I think the one thing that really resonated with me about Biz in writing the book is he has a lot of humility and also a lot of empathy to his family, his colleagues, and even to his users. For this reason alone, I think this book was so refreshing and authentic to read. Granted if you are someone looking to start a company, you might not have the success that Twitter had, but I think still there are a lot of lessons from the book that don't just relate to starting a company but just to life and also on how important is to be good to those around you.
Do buy this book, it is great to read and I took away a lot from it. I wish him great success with Jelly. Biz and I are very similar. A lot of things he experienced in life, I also experienced. Little Bird, Little Bird 5. Three Little Birds 6. What Goes On 7. Pa Na Tu Ri Springtime outing 8. Peace Like a River Los Pollitos The Little Chicks The North Wind If You Listen Down in the Valley It was a revelatory year for so many reasons, mostly because of the children and all they taught me. But musically, two things happened that year that changed my life.
Her patient, gentle voice and virtuosic guitar playing stopped me in my tracks. It was disarmingly still, yet commanding, steadfast and true. Hearing her music made me want to find that place in myself, somewhere deeper and stronger. I needed it to be a better teacher and musician. The songs that jumped off the vinyl of the Woody Guthrie record were the first songs I heard that accessed the poetry of the emerging language of children.

I cherished these windows into their imaginations; as a songwriter it was inspiring, their minds were so free. I brought the music of Elizabeth Cotten and Woody Guthrie into the classroom. We also learned the songs of the Carter Family and Leadbelly. I was able to teach for two more years before touring with my band took me away from the classroom. We Made it a song about having friends in many places, a reflection of our years on the road with our band, and the special things that can happen in those places.
Ed Sheeran - Little Bird Lyrics | SongMeanings
One day last year, Storey came home from school singing the verse to this song she had learned in music class. Although we had heard this song a few times before, it was as if we were hearing it for the first time.
Now they are big kids, and we still make music with them in our band Messy Chocolate. We thought that covering a Velvet Underground song was the perfect way to start a band. Try it at home! Our violinist and friend, Jean Cook, taught us this song and sings it with us here.
