I really enjoyed reading this book. I'm looking forward to reading book 2. I would definitely recommend this book. From page one I realized this was going to be a great story. It brings out the different magical races in a interesting way and keeps me entertained. I had a very hard time putting the book down! It was a very exciting story full of adventure, good versus evil, and old fashioned high fantasy. A wonderful fantasy novel! Set in a world like Middle Earth The Hobbit , and written in interwoven chapters like a Brian Jacques Redwall story, even the supporting characters are great like the wannabe goblin named Stinkrunt and an enchanted suit of armor named Edgar.

Highly enjoying this epic journey and looking forward to more of the series. Pick this up while it's still at a great price! Really liked this book. Do not get attached to anyone. Good story and excellent characters to cheer for. Some things in the story seems a little rushed but they do not take away from the story.

I have finally found a vampire huntress novel I don't relate to down to the hair and love interest. Read the entire series and have recommended it to many friends. It was too good to put down at some points and I lost a lot of sleep reading all 12 books. It's very rare that I don't know how a book will end or I'm unsure of a character's fate this book have me that mystery. This series made me cry and laugh and I bonded so well with the characters; their pain was my pain.

It is a little slow in the beginning but keep going thug won't regret it.

Although she is a talented musician, the music business is really just her cover, making it possible for her and her band to travel with hidden weaponry while on vampire hunting missions.

Her bandmates are Guardians - highly trained vampire killers in their own right, each with a special power that allows them to sense the presence of evil beings. They hunt with Damali, but their real purpose is to protect her. Damali did not exactly choose her profession. She was discovered by Guardians after her powers started coming to the surface in her early teens. Having no family of her own, she had no problem leaving her sad life behind and starting new with the Guardians. This eclectic group of people have become her adoptive family.

They live together in a military style anti-vamp compound, constantly strategizing against their sworn enemy. Recent events are showing an insurgence of vampire attacks and abductions, all within Damali's circle of professional and personal relationships. The seriousness of the attacks and the proximity to Damali cause her to ask some tough questions of her Guardian family. Eventually, when she gets her answers, she discovers that there is much she doesn't know about her purpose in this world. In another part of town lives Carlos, the one man Damali has ever thought she could love.

Carlos is driven by such a strong desire for money and power that he has become neck deep in illegal dealings to meet his goals. It was the way he makes his money that ultimately drove Damali away from him. But when Carlos's family is attacked by vampires, Carlos and Damali are brought back into each other's lives. They still care deeply for each other, but they also have innumerable secrets from each. Neither knows that Carlos is as much a target as Damali, but for very different reasons. Overall I thought this was an entertaining vampire world.

I liked the fight scenes and hunting parts of the story.

Legend (Legend, #1) by Marie Lu

I also liked the back story starting with the epilogue which explains a little bit of Damali's heritage. The vampires are lethal - there was nothing at all romantic or peaceful about these bloodsuckers at all. Unfortunately, there were other parts of the story that I didn't like quite as much. The opening chapter spends an awful lot of time describing how their instruments break down into weapons There was also too much down time between the action. Damali's Guardians are very slow in releasing information to her about herself - which was very frustrating to me as a reader.

Lastly, the book ends in a really strange place. I think it is meant to be a cliffhanger, but it felt more like the book ended in the middle of a chapter. Not a single storyline was resolved, and neither Damali or the Guardians were in the last chapter at all.

It was a very strange ending.

The Legend Trilogy by Marie Lu - Spoiler Free Series Review

I plan to continue on with this series, so it will be interesting to see how the next book picks up where this one ended so abruptly. The story was interesting enough for me to want to continue, but it was a wobbly start. I hope the next book will be much improved. I really, really wanted to like this book but I just could not get into it. Normally it would only take me a couple of days to read a book like this but I struggled with this book for about a week.

The main problem was I just didn't understand what was going on. I thought maybe it was just me but after reading some other reviews, it turns out that's not the case.

See a Problem?

In the first half of the book, not much was happening. It was written as if the reader should know what the characters were talking about but I did not. I actually had to check and make sure I was reading the first book in the series I was because I felt like I was jumping in the middle of something. Then in the second half of the book, the very complicated vampire mythology was presented in one long information dump.

I couldn't sort it all out. Several of the reviews indicated that the subsequent books in this series are much better. Honestly, there are so many vampire series out there that I want to read that I don't know if I want to take the time to see if the second book, The Awakening, is better. I'm really getting into this series, at first in the first book it took awhile to catch my attention to be honest. The author has an interesting style of writing and really captivates the culture she's trying to portray.

This isn't your average vampire hunter series. Minion is the first of a 12 book series by L. Banks called the Vampire Huntress Legends. Damali Richards, the heroine, has a very special calling that takes her down a path that will lead her into very dangerous situations. Primarily, she is the Neteru. A very unique person that will captivate and astound you.

Her task is to find and root out evil in its vilest forms. She even has to come into contact with the most dangerous and evilest intity known to man. The thing about this book is it introduces you to Damali in her first stages of developement. Even with her just coming into her own, she is still a bad Sistah that can wield a dagger, a sword, shoot a glock, kick a demons butt in hand to hand combat and never miss a beat while rocking some fierce music in her band named the Warriors Of Light. The Sistah is so bad she does drivebys on hell itself. She is so special that she is the target of major vampires who want to use her to help them create and give birth to daywalkers.

She gets help from her band members who are also Guardians of the innocent and her special caretakers as well. Believe me they are no slouches themselves. You will be captivated the moment you read the first book and will find it hard to put it down.
