The list is placed on a nearby tree, where Skeleton happens upon it and interprets as a menu rather than guest list. Skeleton is afraid, and rushes to warn Ghost, then the two of them go to warn Ghoul, and all three decide to run off into hiding. As dinner time is nearing, Little Witch goes to invite the three of them but none are to be found. After looking at the house of Skeleton, Ghost, and Ghoul with no luck, she goes back to the hill where Big Witch and the stew are and begins to cry.

A clever crow nearby realizes that there has been a misunderstanding, and goes looking for the three in hiding. Once found, the crow points out the misunderstanding and the three of them all go to have stew with the witches. A pleasant story accompanied by art that is adorable while still retaining some revolting features in characters like the witches and ghoul.

The font style is mostly good for reading, though some parts can be tricky with black font on a darker gradient sky background.

The story has good pacing and the setting is great for autumn, or specifically around Halloween. It makes good use of emphasis through enlarged words and wavy text direction and onomatopoeia. Skeleton For Dinner makes a good read-aloud book that brings a spooky Halloween setting with a happy ending. Sep 11, Mary rated it really liked it. A really cute and funny story about a misunderstood phrase and note. While Big Witch and Little Witch are discussing who to invite to their dinner party, Skeleton overhears them say they want to have "Skeleton for dinner". Of course, he takes that in the worst way possible and runs through the woods warning the other "dinner guests" of their potential fates!
