I love reading Nora Roberts and Sandra Brown because they deliver romance novels that are more mystery and suspense with a hint of romance. But that's the way it is now in their career. Early novels by them were of the cheesy romance variety. When I picked this one up, I did not realize it was a Silhouette, older book, and from page one, you'd know it for sure.

It's too saccahrine but it is what it is. I'd avoid this in favor of a newer Roberts romance. There is so much to admire and enjoy from a story of child-hood sweethearts.

I admit to being a sucker for romances, but honestly, this story could turn typical lovey-dovey haters into appreciators of the art of love. The humanism, relatable characters, and humor make readers turn the pages at whiplash speed, wondering whether Vanessa will mend fences or completely tear them down.

What is a romance without struggle, right? Their difficulties were founded more on adolescent misunderstandings and struggling to understand themselves as adults. In effect, their conflicts were more amusing than annoying.

See a Problem?

Fighting one minute, then establishing a date within the same heated moment is more realistic than it seems. The pain in my side was caused by laughter, not anxiety. But, everything pales in comparison when Vanessa and Brady start getting hotter and heavier than a pot full of fondue. This book is an example of her finely tuned skills that enable her to sneak in and steal your heart.

Such a beautiful story I truly loved it. Jan 10, Richard Hayes rated it it was amazing. This book follows the normal Nora Roberts mode. Girl meets boy, either old flame or new guy. Problems and then happy ending. This one is about Venessa, a pianist who has travels all over the world and is very famous. She comes home to try and heal old wounds with her mother and other things that she isn't even sure of herself. She meets up with an old flame and things go from there. Dec 05, Yona rated it really liked it Shelves: It was a nice book the end was perfect not the best one but still perfect. And i enjoyed the book very much Vanessa is unsure of her homecoming - after 12 years she is seeing her mother for the first time and is still wondering why she let her go away to Europe. Then there is Brady Tucker her first love and the boy who stood her up on prom. Her mother is dating Brady's father and Brady, the former wildchild, is now a doctor and still charming and attractive.

Brady trying to get Vanessa out of his heart notices that something might be wrong with Vanessa. This is a short sweet love story of childhood sweethearts meeting again after a decade or so, and also about a daughter coming to terms with her parents. It is an all right novel but not one of her best. The Cordina family makes an appearance I probably won't read them as I know what happened in them.

Nun, ich mag ihn: Apparently I didn't leave a review when I read this before. I didn't love it, so I get why, but in an effort to explain why I didn't love it, I should probably leave a review. Unfortunately, I read this two months ago and have forgotten most of my reasons.

Basically self, I vaguely remember I didn't particularly care for Vanessa and thought the chemistry between her and Brady fell flat -- which I've noticed happens a lot with me and Nora Roberts although weirdly, not with me and J. Robb -- go Apparently I didn't leave a review when I read this before. Robb -- go fig. Mar 24, Ashleylachell rated it liked it. I have realized there are certain authors who you can not read back to back. These authors tend to have the same flow in every book that was the case of this and the last 3 books I have read by Nora Roberts.

Nov 16, Bunnita Worth Reading It? Okay so I didn't hate but the two main characters weren't likable to me. Brady got too dominant to me especially when he said 'he just take's' Vanessa came across as hella judgmental.

Even though she was kept in the dark about things and had some understandable resentments she felt childish in her actions at time.

I guess it wasn't my cup of tea and I was glad to be done with this business. I liked the small town setting and the side-characters were good. The dialogue was enjoyable. This read a little to aggressive, a little too grabby and it made me bristle a few times. I have read a lot of nonfiction so far this year and needed some romance to clear the deck of my brain. Mar 29, Tantra Bensko rated it liked it. I admire Romance authors who have to churn out books super fast, especially to fit the exact word and formula requirements of Category and contain themselves to be standard generic.

There's little time for editing, but I feel this one could have greatly benefited by someone slashing out the relentless repetitions repetitions repetitions. And also, my goodness, so much on-the-nose expository dialogue without subtext. It seemed like Roberts ran out of story and had to fill in the word count so jus I admire Romance authors who have to churn out books super fast, especially to fit the exact word and formula requirements of Category and contain themselves to be standard generic. It seemed like Roberts ran out of story and had to fill in the word count so just kept writing the characters explaining themselves like a psychologist might explain a case.

It's hard to read the old-fashioned way of writing that was once considered OK -- continual head hopping. I'm so glad that's changed, now. However, there is a love scene in this book that is one of the best I've read, absolutely fantastic poetic passion, profundity, mystical bliss, feral ferocity. He saw only her, her hair streaming back like a wild red river. That seems like a good message to me.

Jun 30, Baige Bell rated it really liked it. This would be a 5 star read for me but it's an 80s or 90s Nora Roberts which means the male leads are more assault-y than I want them to be. This one wasn't as bad as some of her other early books, though, and it was worth a read. I'm sad to say this short novella lacked the romantic spark that Nora Roberts usually imbues into her stories. The more I read of Unfinished Business , the more it felt like a chore.

The characters were very flat and the dialogue was boring. To top that off, I didn't care for Vanessa, or anyone else in the story for that matter. I just wanted someone to show some real emotion instead of constantly talking about it! So Abraham was a nice guy, but why was he called Ham? What's wrong w I'm sad to say this short novella lacked the romantic spark that Nora Roberts usually imbues into her stories.

What's wrong with Abe? I kept seeing Sunday's dinner every time Ham walked on scene. At the very beginning I did have hope for the main couple, especially when Vanessa's reunion with Brady view spoiler [ started with a closed fist to his gut! I had to wonder what he did that was so awful that after all those years he didn't even get a "Hello! I thought to myself, "Alrighty then! These two are going to deal with some major issues, be honest with each other, and get on with life!

It felt like Vanessa gave all her energy in that one scene and walked around with her own personal thundercloud raining down on her for the rest of the book. No wonder Brady was so crabby all the time. It's hard enough to complete one plot, let alone multiple plots in a page Novella. A lot of bad things happened to Vanessa and Brady before they went there separate ways without speaking , but there wasn't enough time to explore the complicated emotions that comes from that type of betrayal.

It made the plot come off too neat-and-tidy for it to be realistic. If you're still interested in reading this book, I would recommend a trip to your local library and saving your cash for another day. Apr 28, Raksha Basav rated it liked it. Unfinished business is actually a sweet love story which is about love-breakup and re-uniting. Vanessa Sexton was 16, when she fell in love with Brady Tucker. She was a talented pianist. Her father knew, with some guidance she could be a successful pianist. He takes her away to New York, which he thought was best for her.

She sees neither her mom, nor Brady trying to stop her.

Her heart was broken and she had to accept the situation, without any choice. She wishes to visit the village that she grew up after 12 long years. Throughout the book you feel sorry for Vanessa, her feelings are constantly manipulated. She always did what her father wanted, believing it was best for her. But after returning to her village, she discovered the misunderstanding with her mother and Brady.

She realizes her father had kept her in dark and left her with no choice but to realize his dreams for her. Meanwhile, she spends more time with Brady. You just have to enjoy the simplicity. The writing style quite annoyed me with frequent change in narration. Apr 17, Marianne rated it it was ok. I really wanted to like this novel and this is my second attempt to like stories by Nora Roberts, and so far, not having any luck. I love the premise of the book, but the ending just irritated me. Brady and Van still didn't see eye to eye, but Roberts just tried to force them to be together in the end.

Brady was being unrealistic about the whole thing, especially with Van's career. If she chose to go on tours, he will get frustrated that she is gone most of the time, and he made it sound he can I really wanted to like this novel and this is my second attempt to like stories by Nora Roberts, and so far, not having any luck. If she chose to go on tours, he will get frustrated that she is gone most of the time, and he made it sound he can just pack up and leave to travel with her, when realistically he can't. But of course, this doesn't matter anymore, because even after the advice Van got from her princess friend, she still chose Brady and some semblance of keeping her career.

I don't begrudge that choice per se, I'm not gonna be like she was being anti-feminist or whatever, Van made her own choices, that's what matters the most. However, like Brady, she was being unrealistic about the whole thing. And it seemed like she got scared of just losing Brady again, so she just made a hasty decision before she actually figured out what she wanted. Other than that, it was a nice quick read. I just didn't like the ending. Towards the end, I was rooting for Van to leave her childhood hometown again, at least for while, rediscover herself and build her own identity before going back to Brady.

But she succumbed to Brady's ultimatum and that was no ok.
