I love to bake and I love cakes and I got very tired of looking up recipes online only to find most of them based on cake mixes. If been using a lot of Martha Stewart's record and decided it would just be easier to have a book. I looked through a variety of her books and picked this based on reviews and content. Martha has loosened up over the years, and I think her products meaning show, cookbook, magazine are better for it. The layout is user-friendly at least the e-book was and I did not see any glaring errors or format issues. The book is divided into types of cakes loaf, Bundt, layer, cheesecakes, etc with useful techniques and tips for frosting, decorating, etc.
Because this was checked out from the library during a time when I had too much else going on, I was able to make only one loaf cake from it, but that was a complete success. I saw nothing to indicate that the other recipes would not be equally trustworthy. While most of the recipes are simply solid versions of old favorites, there were a few new gems scattered throughout.
At a time when I'm trying to consolidate my cookbook collection down to those books that get used as opposed to read like food porn, but never cooked from , I'd seriously consider adding this to the shelf. Sep 25, Natashya KitchenPuppies rated it it was amazing.
Sneak Peek of "Martha Stewart's Cakes" | Martha Stewart
Martha came out with a book on cakes during the month of my birthday. I like to think this was planned. I was certainly excited! She has done pies, cookies, cupcakes and wedding cakes, but this is the first book on cakes in general. The book has a wonderful array of cake styles and varieties, including: Mar 10, Shamekia rated it really liked it.
I've only made one recipe, but I'm so inspired to try at least one more before returning this to the library. I'm actually considering buying this book, which says a lot, because I never buy books.
I made the Coconut-Pecan frosting for German chocolate cupcakes and it was dee-lish. I used half the amount called for of flaked coconut, and it still came out perfect. What is Kobo Super Points?
Most of the book contains recipes that I would love to make and most of them are easy enough to make for everyday, as well as special, occasions. There were a few however, that I had no interest at all in making and then there were some that seemed like they would take quite a lot of time and effort to make. The best part about this book was that there were recipes for every season and taste, so many different types of people would be able to enjoy this 4. There are even some gluten-free and vegan options for those who are interested in some healthier choices. All in all, I think this is a good book for any baker to have in their cook-book selection. I know that I am looking forward to getting my own copy to add to my collection.

Editorial Reviews
She is an amazing person and I have a great respect for her. I will continue to pick up her books as I grow in my culinary travels. Worth every penny spent on her books. I've baked several cakes from this book after having checked it out at the library Now I'm hearing about the negative impacts of gluten see Dr. David Perlmutter so I'm now slacking off on my breads, cakes, etc.
Great recipes and lots to choose from.
