It is listed as YA. All ages will adore it. You will want to start the next one in the series as soon as possible. I suggest you get all three. The cats personalities are as unique as the names. I really enjoyed reading this book. This story is a must-read for cat lovers, in fact, pet lovers in general as well. A true tear jerker, and a story I've never forgotten. I cannot begin to tell you how much I loved this book. I nearly cried throughout, especially toward the end. Shardai is filled with love, suspense, devotion and true compassion. I do not want to give too much of the character development or plot away but Shardai is basically in search for his human mom. He lived with her for many years in his former cat life before he became ill and passed on to cat Heaven or Catarau.
Their bond was so strong and endearing for him, he chose to be reincarnated in a different cat body on Earth in order to be with his human mom again. Once a cat dies on Earth and reaches Catarau, they can make the decision to stay in this majestic and peaceful place or return to Earth Once Shardai returns to Earth, he realizes he is no longer a husky beautiful white cat but a small black kitten. And although this is a huge obstacle for him, his determination surpasses many of the dangers ahead.
His new cat mother is close to him and his siblings as he tries to do what is best for them to survive in the wilderness as well as continue the journey to find his mother. Shardai's love for his kitty family is strong and filled with a protective instinct. Even though he is determined to find his human mom, Shardai still makes sure he does whatever he can to protect and help find homes for his new family.
The author's knowledge about the behavior and instinct of cats is apparent throughout this entire story. Shardai is filled with suspense and such a descriptive language, you are sure to be sucked in from beginning to end. And by the end, you will be in tears. I highly recommend this book for readers from ages 10 to I look forward to reading Cox's other books in this incredible series. They describe Shardai to a tee. The author has a way with words that makes the reader want to keep reading.
And so much more. It is full of symbols and meanings. I think it symbolizes the mutual love we, humans, and our pets share. I was hooked from the beginning.

Shardai is a big-hearted cat who loves his human more than life itself. He's been to cat heaven, but even having experienced its wonders, he can't let go of his love for her. He goes through quite a lot to be with her. Coming back as other cats, even as a weak newborn. I loved that in the story, other animals could often sense when cats had come back in another life. They could see it in the eyes. During his journey to find her, he meets several other cats. He forms bonds with some.

But no bond so strong as to keep him from his human. If you are a cat person, this book is for you! Very well written book. There are places where you need a gazillion boxes of tissues. For anyone who has loved and lost a beloved cat, this brings hope and comfort, as well as a tear and a smile Sandra Cox is a masterful storyteller who takes the reader on a journey like no other. Shardai, part of the Cats of Catarau series, travels a dangerous path to find his beloved human and encounters both friends and enemies along the way. Cox's series to my granddaughter has made it out 'special' time together every Saturday afternoon.
