Aug 01, Tom rated it it was amazing. Down to earth techniques on how to defend yourself, the legal bit may be outdated now, states that the best way to win is to strike first. Nov 13, Greg rated it liked it.
Not exceptionally well written, but it does an adequate job describing attackers' common ploys and strategies and provides good justification for a preemptive strike. That is why the styles that have huge classes marching about like robots do so well. Spike , Jan 1, Basically you're confusing the very basis of why lots of people do martial arts I'd never had problems being picked on or anything throughout my entire life, if anything i was always the one that got over physical.
Three Second Fighter : Sniper Option
I decided to take up TKD because i wanted something to do, something to help keep me fit and supple, not because i was worried about the outside, and yes i mean outside chance that some dick is gonna pick a fight with me. Now i been doing TKD for about 4 years, and yeah sure i can do the spinning kicks and hooks, but im under no illusion that that would never work, it would be irresponsible for me to think otherwise, and for my teacher to tell me that.
The fact is, for me, that in my spare time i can train kicks and flips. MMA systems train pretty much towards being attacked or being in a fight situation. I believe it takes 2 people to fight, no i dont Im no pasifist but im not out looking for a fight, i dont care how much i had to drink, im not like that. For instance a few weeks ago me and some friends were enjoying a quiet pint outside a pub, and these guys come over and start saying "you looking for a fight or what?
I had nothing to prove, these kids hopped up on cocaine, few years older than me, what are they doing?
See a Problem?
We're pretty straight up guys and defused the situation, i wasnt too worried about being attacked, and from what i been told afterwards one of the guys is constantly getting in fights, but i wasnt about to run at him and hog-tie him or something, come on And if thats what i had spent 4 years training MMA for, why would i need it? Helm , Jan 1, I think that the real effectiveness of martial arts is in sparring. The techniques you learn are really just theoretical, since although they may have worked for some 9th degree black belt whos been practicing for over half a century, they may not work for you.
When you actually apply these techniques in sparring, you're developing a kinesthetic sense of the body and honing your reflexes.
3 Second Fighter: The Sniper Option
I'm pretty sure that anyone whos every been attacked wasn't saved by a spin kick, but by their own instincts. Sean O , Jan 2, Playing devils advocate; the benifits of certain exercises may not be so obvious. You might call the person doing the flying spinning kicks, but if he can do flying spinning kicks I'm sure he can do a good kick to the thigh as well. I've not really seen an McDojangs, heard a lot about them on here, how common are they?
I've always trained at relatively good places with realistic teachers IMHO at least The vast majority of people have never encountered a street fight, or needed to use martial arts.

And you can't give them the experience. I think the problem is often the student more than the school.
