When he spoke, his voice was soft. You will learn you are not damned. You must call me Camille. Join with me against Santiago. We will walk together into his rat-infested hotel; the moment his followers see that you are with me, they will leave him and come to me. I believe they are loyal to me beneath their fear of him. Once they see us together, that fear will be gone, and they will come to our side. Man cannot contend with the divine. No one can stand before you. Certainly not one vampire. He was almost instantly sorry he had.
Her green eyes darkened like thunderclouds. I am convinced you will see the wisdom of my proposal and join with me. I mean, I understand the part where we face down Raphael, but after that? He leaves me alone. She wore a silver ring with a blue stone in it on her left middle finger, over the material of her glove. You think Raphael is doing you a favor in leaving you alone, as you put it. In reality he is exiling you. Right now you think you do not need others of your kind. You are content with the friends you have—humans and Shadowhunters. You are content to hide bottles of blood in your room and lie to your mother about what you are.
Do you think no one will notice that as they age and change, you do not? But it does not need to be that way. Eternity is a long time to spend alone, without others of your kind. You befriend Shadowhunters, but you can never be of them. You will always be other and outside. With us you could belong. You could learn how to keep your secret; how to eat and drink, how to speak the name of God. I can help you. She smiled, and her teeth were white and sharp. The iron chair was hard and uncomfortable, and he suddenly felt tired. Looking down at his hands, he could see that the veins had darkened, spidering across the backs of his knuckles.
He needed to talk to Clary. He needed time to think. It is a great deal to take in. I would be happy to give you as much time as you needed to make up your mind about this, and about me. While I remain in this city, I am in danger from Raphael and his cohorts. But that will be good for me, I feel, to be around someone so. At that she did smile. To accept my offer? To begin to work together? The strings of white lights seemed to blot out the stars. There had to be some way to say this without him sounding like he was turning down a date to the prom.
Camille, like Raphael, always spoke stiffly, formally, as if she were in a fairy tale. Maybe he could try that. Something gleamed in her palm. It was a small glass vial, the size that might hold a perfume sample, only it appeared to be full of brownish powder. If you do not summon me within five days I will send Walker for your answer.
But we will part friends. The chair made a metallic squeaking sound as it dragged over the ground, too loud. He felt like he should say something else, but he had no idea what. For the moment, though, he seemed to be dismissed. He left without saying anything else. On his way back through the restaurant, he passed Walker and Archer, who were standing by the big wooden bar, their shoulders hunched under their long gray coats. He felt the force of their glares on him as he walked by and wiggled his fingers at them—a gesture somewhere between a friendly wave and a kiss-off.
Archer bared his teeth—flat human teeth—and stalked past him toward the garden, Walker on his heels. By the time the waiters noticed and hurried outside to rectify the problem, flooding the garden with pale light once again, Camille and her human subjugates had vanished.

Simon unlocked the front door of his house—one of a long chain of identical brick-fronted row houses that lined his Brooklyn block—and pushed it open slightly, listening hard. He had told his mother he was going out to practice with Eric and his other bandmates for a gig on Saturday. There had been a time when she simply would have believed him, and that would have been that; Elaine Lewis had always been a relaxed parent, never imposing a curfew on either Simon or his sister or insisting that they be home early on school nights.
Things were different now. He had vanished from home, with no chance to offer an excuse or explanation. Or at least, no conscious recollection. Her behavior had changed, though. She was suspicious now, hovering, always watching him, insisting he be home at certain times. The last time he had come home from a date with Maia, he had found Elaine in the foyer, sitting in a chair facing the door, her arms crossed over her chest and a look of barely tempered rage on her face. Now he could hear only the faint sound of the television coming from the living room. She must have waited up for him, probably watching a marathon of one of those hospital dramas she loved.
Simon swung the door closed behind him and leaned against it, trying to gather his energy to lie. It was hard enough not eating around his family. He hated having to lie to her. Now the shoe was on the other foot.

Squaring his shoulders, he dropped his messenger bag by the door and headed into the living room to face the music. The TV was on, the news blaring. The local announcer was reporting on a human interest story—a baby found abandoned in an alley behind a hospital downtown. Simon was surprised; his mom hated the news.
She found it depressing. He glanced toward the couch, and his surprise faded. His mother was asleep, her glasses on the table beside her, a half-empty glass on the floor. Simon could smell it from here—probably whiskey. He felt a pang. His mom hardly ever drank. His mom was still asleep, her breathing slow and even. Elaine Lewis was a tiny, birdlike woman, with a halo of black curling hair, streaked with gray that she refused to dye. She worked during the day for an environmental nonprofit, and most of her clothes had animal motifs on them.
Right now she was wearing a dress tie-dye printed with dolphins and waves, and a pin that had once been a live fish, dipped in resin. Its lacquered eye seemed to glare at Simon accusingly as he bent to tuck the blanket around her shoulders. She moved, fitfully, turning her head away from him. Maybe he should wake her up, let her know he was okay.
He turned and went into his bedroom. He paused for a moment, listening to the dial tone. Well, there was always complaining to her about his love life; that seemed to amuse her no end. Would you like to tell us about a lower price?

Despite spouting that he loves her and wants to be with her he obviously means "not right now" as he avoids her like the plague. Surely working things out together makes more sense but he just stumbled around making mistake after mistake and putting everyone else in danger.
Clary has no idea what is going on apart from thinking he does not love her anymore so the relationship is a bigger train wreck than before if that is even possible. Simon needs to man up and "grow a pair" as he is so wimpy yet he is this invincible being and lets everyone fight his battles for him. Isabelle is her usual arrogant self so she her character stayed the same and at least she is willing to fight for her friends although her double standards are annoying. Alec and Magnus are finally a couple but I would have liked to read more of them in this book as they were absent for most of it and some better fight scenes would have kept the story moving.
Luke and Joselyn are getting married finally but then nothing? A lot of loose ends in this book and if only these characters talked to each other there would be less problems for them to face alone and they do not seem to learn from their mistakes. Hopefully things will progress in the next book which I am still debating as to whether I will read on.
This is the last book I had to read for my read-a-thon I did this week.
The Prodigal Mage (Fisherman's Children, #1) by Karen Miller
I tried to get through as much of it as I could and even though I didn't get it done during it, I did finish it the next morning after it ended. I am flying through this series because I can't stop even if I tried. I spend my days that I can't read at the time thinking about it. I like where the story picks up. It does in a way of joy and then Jace starts to pull back and we know why, but no one else does. So most of the rest of the book is trying to find out when Jace is going to finally let it all out. The book definitely takes a turn at the end.
You have a feeling you kind of know why things are happening, but in the end it definitely wasn't what I thought. There is some parts that are connected to it, but not in ways I had imagined. Clare leaves it off in a way that you pretty much HAVE to pick up the next book. I need to know what happens and I already know after the 5th book I am going to be really upset having to wait for the final book to come out in I might even re-read the series before it comes out just so I can jump right into the last one. I love how the characters continue to become a part of you and grow not only has an individual but as a group of not only friends but becoming a family as well.
I don't want to say much more than that without ruining the book for you all. It wasn't my favorite out of the series, I definitely enjoyed it and I still give it 5 stars, but I think book 3 is still my favorite. I still felt like the series could have ended there and I loved the happy ending that it gave in more ways than one. I am still hoping for that happy ending with the end of the series. This book definitely leaves you with a feeling of dread of what is going to happen at the end of it.
I pretty much just set the book down and stared up and wanted to yell no, but knew I would scare my dog if I did, so I did the next best thing. I got up, went to my bookshelf, grabbed book 5, then walked in here to write this for you all: I know this isn't the best review, I am horrible at writing reviews on series and trying not to give spoilers for you all. I just hope you see my sincerity that I loved this book and I love the series. So many said it wasn't good after the 3rd book and that had me scared, but for me I still love the series, and I hope that remains the case after book 5 and 6.

Cassandra Clare is a good story teller. Jewish historians corroborate most everything written in the Bible. Of course, the books are works of fiction, but by the forward of the third book the book before this one she seems to backpedal and say The Nephilim were myths and monsters, which is not what it says in the Bible and is not factual. What she had said in the foreward of her first book was what had captivated me.

Enraged by his son's chronic recklessness and current mocking demeanor, Liam's father slaps his son in the face, shouting that he'll always be a layabout and a scoundrel. In the present, Angel is fighting a demon that is dressed like a homeless person on the train tracks in an L. As Detective Kate Lockley arrives on the scene, the demon clutches its chest, sinks to the ground and expires.
Forced again to deal with L. Later, as an officer interviews the Blue Circle courier who pulled the emergency cord after allegedly being attacked by "your average Joe-stink homeless guy," Angel's instincts are immediately aroused when he spots Kate's dad, retired police detective Trevor Lockley, take a package from the crime scene.
At Angel Investigations , Angel identifies the demon in one of Wesley 's reference books as a Kwaini demon, an inherently non-violent race. Angel visits Kate at the precinct, but as he explains that something must have set off the Kwaini demon in the subway, Kate interrupts, preferring that he say "evil thing" instead of "demon. Kate is reluctant to admit that his news means that this case is not as routine as they initially believed. The AI team splits up to pursue their two leads. Angel, suspicious that the Blue Circle courier was on a train during his shift, follows him to an apartment building, where Trevor Lockley opens the door to the courier's knock and shoves a brown-wrapped package into the man's hands.
Once the courier leaves, Angel confronts Trevor about the exchange, theorizing Trevor was returning the parcel he removed from the crime scene that morning. Intending to discover who Trevor is working for, Angel gives Kate's father a chance to come clean so they can take care of the problem without further police involvement. Taking umbrage at Angel's angry implication that he cares nothing for his daughter, Trevor tells Angel that he can't possibly interpret a father's actions, and slams the door in his face. After locating the Kwaini's body in the subway tunnel, Wesley performs an autopsy which reveals the demon was on drugs, and attacked the train because someone on board had more of the drug.
In Galway, Liam tearfully bids goodbye to his mother and younger sister, and exchanges more harsh words with his father. An elegantly dressed Darla watches in fascination as a very drunk Liam brawls with beautiful abandon, besting several men in quick succession. That night, luring the vulnerable young man into a dark alley with promises of exotic experiences and places, Darla sires Liam, first biting him, then drawing her own blood for him to drink in turn.
That night, Liam rises from his grave and is greeted by Darla. She watches as he morphs and kills his first human. Liam adopts the vampiric name 'Angelus' when his younger sister sees him coming home and mistakes him for an angel. Angelus subsequently kills nearly the entire population of his village, including his sister, mother, and father, but leaving a few alive so that they will spread the vampire's reputation. Two men in suits visit Trevor Lockley to make sure he hasn't said anything to his daughter.
Angel arrives to warn Trevor of the danger in which he's involved, but before he can convince Mr. Lockley to invite him inside, the men in suits reveal themselves as vampires and kill Trevor. Kate arrives and finds her father dead. She trails the vampires to the demon drug lord's base, then stakes the vampire who killed her father. Angel shows up and helps her fight and kill the remaining vampires and finally chops off the head of the lead demon. Kate walks away, saying that Angel doesn't know anything about losing a human father.
Back in Angel's past, Darla finds that Angelus has killed all of his family.
