This book was blurbed as a comedy, and some reviewers found it hysterically funny. There were, actually, a few funny moments that made me laugh out loud, but overall, it was a profoundly depressing indictment of Hollywood that ends with an incredibly trite statement that happiness "isn't fame and fortune, it's being with someone you love".
Crazy Town is peopled with characters, all of whom are execrable. Filip, the main character, moves from London to Los Angeles, seeking success as a costume designer for "the movies". He sublets from a guy who's off on a movie shoot - who changes his phone number and sends him a notice to leave the flat after the Filip had already been dispossessed for a month by an emergency asbestos-removal crew. He goes to stay with a pair of older, filthy rich gay lovers who turn out to be both obnoxious and committable - for example, they give him detailed instructions on what he can and cannot do when using their copper toilet so that his excrement doesn't damage it.
They live next door to an aging has-been actress who lives in a rat-infested mansion that hadn't been cleaned in years, driving a high-end car that no one can sit in because the seats are covered in old take-out food, mold and dog excrement. He gets all kinds of promises of work, but ends up buying into being in an "entourage" for the washed-up actress, with disastrous results.
I found these characters both cruel and revolting and him, a fool for sucking up to them. And this is funny, how? I love Robert Bryndza's writing, and this book was even better than his usual fantastic. The reader is given an up close and personal view of what Hollywood does to people, and none of it is good. Bryndza is a master at everything he does - and in this book he proves he could teach sociologists a thing or two.
On a personal note, this book confirms what I already knew to be true of all the phonies in life - Hollywood or otherwise. Filip's misadventures seemed to go on and on and I guess that was the story. Filip left London to follow his dreams to be a stylist while his partner, David stayed behind to follow his. He meets a crazy couple who help him at times and at others, are infuriating. But they introduce him to a B actress who gives him some work as a stylist.
You do emphasize with Filip and I enjoyed much of it, however, it turned away from humor in the last part of the book. It got too dark for this type of story. Funny, but not as endearing as his Coco books, but still good and worth the read. His comedy series Coco, is really funny. His murder mystery books are great. I love this author! Good, humorous look at the inner workings of Hollywood.
I've read other Robert Bryndza books, and am happy I finally got to read this one. It has his humor and outrageous antics of characters you'll love to laugh at and with. Good journey of the soul all set in the dark world of getting attention in Hollywood. You can see why Californians like to refer to Hollywood as Hollyweird. This book will definitely give you the answer why. One person found this helpful. This is very good read from the Bryndza team.
The characters are well written and quite believable, especially the Hollywood stars. I kept picturing one actress in particular when envisioning Veronica Madison and it really brought the story to life for me. I'm not going to tell you who just yet though. I want you to pick this up for yourself, read it, then come back and tell me who you saw playing her. We all wonder what it would be like to be friends with a Hollywood actor and what their lives must really be like.
I think Bitch Hollywood is the perfect inside look into what life may be like for some of them. Fillip's journey is a crazy one, but also quite funny. I got this book for free after seeing it on one of my free book lists. He quickly learns that all that glitters is not gold. Learns that everything he thought about Hollywood is a well crafted facade and ultimately has to decide whether he can pay the price to continue to try and make it in Crazytown. When I saw the title of this book, I was certain I would find it a silly read.
However, instead,I found myself getting interested in the characters and the tragedy of giving up dreams to make a living. I am not sure how accurate a picture this author painted of Hollywood, but bet there is a lot of truth within these pages. So I ended up liking the book a lot. Funny and sad and at times satirical. I hope the third instalment of the Coco series also has this style. One instance where I missed this writing style was where Veronica and Filip were texting-it would have been a nice touch to put a photo of the said text on a mobile in the book-now I've seen this sort of thing in the other Team Bryndza books I kind of expect it now!
This is a brilliant little book yet with so much substance. Bitch Hollywood as got to be one of the funniest books I have read but amongst the humour there is some very touching scenes that have my tears of laugthter becoming tears of a different kind. Filip moves to Hollywood to become a stylist to the stars and meets Hillary and Derek.

Filip was a great character as he tried to find work and settle into Hollywood life. He seemed like too nice a guy to fit into Hollywood lifestyle, I loved his sarcasm and how nobody in Hollywood understood it. Filip first job in Hollywood comes when Veronica offers him the job as her stylist, the washed up star is looking for momentum that will lead her back into the spotlight and she will step on whoever she as to to get her there Filip can even stand by her side and go along for the ride or he can leave.
Again Veronica had me laughting determined to be back in the spotlight her actions sometimes lead to hilarious consequence. I really enjoed reading this book. I laughed so hard and would highly recommend it. This guy has got to be my new fav. I love Robert Bryndza's style of writing, his humour is incredible. Characters are developed beautifully. All I wanna know now is who the hell is Veronica Madison? I hope I never cross path with her.
Can't wait for another book from this author. Fillip has just moved Hollywood in hopes of becoming the next big costume designer. He has left behind all of his friends and family, along with his boyfriend, David, for this one chance at his dreams. So naturally, nothing is going to go right for him. As soon as he steps off the plane, Fillip is left to fend for himself in this brand new city filled with fake, superficial wannabe royalty. By chance, Phillip meets Derek and Hillary, a pair of very atrocious men, who introduce him to Hollywood movie star Veronica Madison. From there, Fillip is thrown into the craziest and hilarious situations and left wondering if this is all truly worth it to make it in Hollywood.

I am very happy to report that I love Bitch Hollywood just as much. From the very start, you know things aren't going to go well for Fillip. The friend who promised to show him around and take under his wing has taken off and Fillip is left to navigate the city alone. Fillip is forced to make friends where he can, which leads us to Derek and Hillary more on them below.

Fillip himself is a mostly likable character. Funny, a little too caring and too much of a nice guy. Of course, once he starts hanging out with the wrong people this starts to change. But even so, I couldn't get enough of him. Of all the characters in all the books I've read, I think Hillary has to be one of the most ridiculous and repulsive men ever.
He is concerned with only himself and acts like a spoiled two-year-old who didn't get the right color sprinkles on his ice cream cone. Derek, his partner, enables every bad behavior Hillary can manage. I guess you could say that I loved to hate them. I just kept waiting for something horrible to happen to them and I knew I would laugh hysterically when it did. Aside from Derek and Hillary, we also meet Veronica Madison, another piece of work, along with her entourage. While she isn't as openly ridiculous as Hillary, she has quite a few issues of her own. She is very selfish, clueless, and her friends are jerks.
This also makes for some entertaining shenanigans that are not to be missed. Overall, this is another fantastic read from the Bryndza team. The characters are well written and quite believable, especially the over-indulged Hollywood stars. I kept picturing one actress in particular when envisioning Veronica Madison and it really brought the story to life for me. I'm not going to tell you who just yet though.

I think Bitch Hollywood is the perfect inside look into what life may be like for some of them. Fillip's journey is a crazy one, but also quite funny. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a clever, fresh read about the lives of the ridiculous. British Humour Meets Hollywood!! Bitch Hollywood by Robert and Jan Bryndza is a delightful read.
The story starts off with the main character, Filip, moving to Hollywood from Europe, having gotten a chance at a green card to live and work in America. Filip is leaving behind everyone he knows, including his boyfriend David. They both had gotten their dream jobs, a continent away from each other. Instead of trying to work it long distance, they decide to go their seperate ways. When he arrives in Hollywood, expecting to have a friend to help him settle in and show him around, he gets totally culture shocked, as that friend just leaves him hanging.
In a strange new town, in a whole different country, Filip must try to make his way and makes his dreams come true. Hillary is a show-stealer that you love to hate, seemingly manic-depressive and desperate to sell his beauty line. Filip lands his first job with Veronica, a washed up actress that is trying to get her career back. With a whole cast of quirky characters, Bitch Hollywood is a dark, gut-busting comedy about the trials of life and love in the city where dreams are supposed to come true.
Bitch Hollywood had me laughing and rooting for Filip from the get go. Filip is a memorable character whos whit and sarcastic attitude, that nobody in Hollywood seemed to get, had me whooping it up and cheering him on. Hillary was a piece of work, seeming to have loads of money but such a penny-pincher that he served chips and dips for dinner! Veronica was the straight up Bitch of Hollywood, having some moments of genuine niceness, but most of the time leading Filip around by a string.
Lost in Crazytown (with Ján Bryndza)
Filip admittedly got caught up in the Hollywood lifestyle, losing touch with himself and his family, but managed to bravely make it through people wiping dogs butts, manic-depressive friends, ass jet toilets, farting Frutarians, and dead dogs…not to mention crazy everyday living and jobs for Veronica.
Filip finally finds himself in the end and what an ending it was! I highly recommend Bitch Hollywood to anyone who likes to laugh!
I give it 5 stars for originality and the ability to make me laugh until I almost peed my pants! For more reviews of Great Books visit http: Happiness is you and the one you love. This was one heck of a roller coaster ride. It had ups and downs, twists and turns and I was thrilled to be along for the ride.

See a Problem?
Things go from bad to worse when Fillip, through the people he has met, is sucked into the Hollywood lifestyle and starts to become the one thing he swore he never would, a crazed Hollywood fanatic. Slowly Fillip begins to lose the pieces of the man he once was and the most important people in his life begin to slip through his fingertips. When a tragic occurrence knocks some sense back into Fillip, he takes a hold of his life once again and rights the wrongs he had foolishly made. I would like to thank Jan and Robert Bryndza for giving me the chance to read their masterpiece, it was an honor and i wish you luck with further novels, not that you guys need luck.
Bitch Hollywood is elegantly written, beautifully composed and greatly insightful. I felt myself being captivated by this story, I was enthralled in Fillips journey and amazed by the hurdles he overcame.
Lost In Crazytown by Robert Bryndza
I learned that it doesn't matter where you are, dreams don't just come true in Hollywood, they come true with a lot of hard work and a lot of determination. However, you should still be careful of what you wish for, you might find you don't like what comes true Who do you find in Bitch Hollywood? The story begins with Filip as he waits in the Vienna Airport for his flight to Los Angeles, filled with hope and excitement as he takes the first major step to follow his dreams. Filip is leaving everything he knows — his family, Europe, his now-ex-boyfriend — for the opportunity to fulfill his dreams. It is not unusual for those who travel to have certain rituals they follow when they fly for me, it was a mimosa at the Orlando International Airport.
As exciting as things are in Los Angeles, things slowly start happening for and to Filip. His friend Harry has changed since the move from London to LA. The apartment is not all it is cracked up to be. Then Filip meets Derek and Hillary, who become his first friends in LA and introduce him to the woman who gives him his first major job. Despite all of the tribulations and drama he deals with, the reader never loses sympathy for Filip — or contempt for Hollywood.
Inspired by the year Robert and Jan Bryndza spent in Los Angeles, Bitch Hollywood is filled with many of the character types readers expect when reading about Tinsel Town. This review originally appeared at Zen Dixie, http: Jan 02, Sarah rated it it was amazing Shelves: Though fiction, the story is based on the authors own experiences of his time in Hollywood. Filip has left the safety and security of England to make it big in Hollywood. After reading this book though I have to say I am more than glad I have not reached the dizzy heights of fame.
He arrives feeling very isolated and lonely. These two characters made me laugh. They are really quirky and eccentric. They have money and are extravagant, yet tight with it. They are both very much hungry for fame and fortune and will stop at literally nothing to get it. As much as I liked them both I could easily understand why Filip was getting really frustrated with them.
His problems seem to be solved when he meets Veronica, an actress. Even though she is going through the troubled time of trying to stay in the limelight due to getting older and running out of money, she gives him a chance to get into the work that he came there to do. Veronica, I kind of felt sorry for. There is so much pressure for actors. From their looks to their diet, we see it all through Veronicas world and it actually felt somewhat sad and lonely.
Lost In Crazy Town overall is a fun and humorous read, it is also quite dark and some parts shocked and saddened me. It actually opened my eyes to what some artists go through to make it big and after reading this book it is without a doubt a world I am so glad I have no part of.
Leaving behind his amicably split, ex-boyfriend and everything he's ever known, even before Fillip's plane leaves the airport he has serious misgivings about leaving Britain to pursue his hearts desire and become a stylist to the stars in the U. When he arrives, it's not long before he realises the glamour of Hollywood for most people is nothing more than a thin veneer of glitter painted over a slab of disappointment.
However, following a chance introduction to a rapidly fading movie star Fil Leaving behind his amicably split, ex-boyfriend and everything he's ever known, even before Fillip's plane leaves the airport he has serious misgivings about leaving Britain to pursue his hearts desire and become a stylist to the stars in the U. However, following a chance introduction to a rapidly fading movie star Fillip thinks he has a shot at being the exception to the rule and launches himself into Hollywood arena. Stepping into the world of desperate wannabes and distressed has-beens, all of whom are trying to grab any shred of fame they can get their claws into, Fillip is surrounded by some of the most unnatural people imaginable.
But when a tragedy strikes and his so called friends show their true colours Fillip finally realises what it is he really wants. Finishing this book is like losing a limb. I have been absorbed in it for the last few days and have had a blast. With some of the most exuberant and vivid characters imaginable, it brings the horror of Hollywood alive, in all its seam-splitting, strop-throwing glory. With a glut of laugh-out-loud moments and some truly cringe-worthy situations this book is a real delight. Another mind boggling, laugh-out-loud book from Robert Bryndza. Stop everything, sit down and read!
I enjoyed reading this book. For many, Los Angeles is the place where dreams come true. Not only because of the pathetic schemes of Hillary but also becaus I enjoyed reading this book. Not only because of the pathetic schemes of Hillary but also because I, myself, thought of LA as the dream. I dreamt of myself being one of those something of the stars. But through time, the essence of LA being a community that helps dreamers develop, diminishes.
The character of Hillary symbolizes those people that try to fit-in in the high standards of LA. Those that will do anything to be of equals with everybody else. If you want to laugh, ponder, and feel LA, this book is a great choice. Again, it was nice to read a book from man's point of view.
It was actually a satire, book full of sarcasm and reading between the lines. Full of emotions as well, I was laughing, I was nodding along with understanding, I was rolling my eyes and sighing with frustration. It is often so that we see what we'd like to see, smiling faces, patting on the back, promises but we don't see, or don't want to see the reality that hides behind all of this glitter. It was amazing to read about the pe 4.
