Mogu samo napisati da joj najvjerojatnije nije bilo lako.

Dilys is dallying with Matthew, a man ten years her junior who is almost the mirror version of her husband. While Matthew is on the dole and unconcerned about it, her husband Francis is a nicely stable staid sensible rich lawyer with a class conscience but they have the same basic outlook on life.

You can almost see where the one would morph into the other if circumstances were different. I'm not sure if Dilly made me impatient because I came thisclose to not bothering to finish the book. I'm not sure if Dilly made me impatient because cheating on such a summarily decent guy seemed wrong, because romance novels of any permutation are not my thing, she's been poor for pity's sake, does she really want to go back to it? All the lies and machinations that came so easily to her. The temper and the mood swings. The invention of visiting her estranged aunt. I despaired that said aunt was ever going to show up, but she did, accomodatingly revealing some family skeletons.

Swimming with Aunt Terri

Straightforward first person narrative told with more than enough dialogue between the characters that I never felt I was reading say, a diary. Nicely drawn character sketches, if all a bit quirky. Her sister Ginny for example, while being a bit over the top never came across as false. Set in England during the Blair years, for a Californian, it was suitably exotic. So yes, in the end, I liked it and I'm glad I stayed with Dilly, even if I did feel like a girlfriend who has to listen to her best friend tiresomely going on and on about the fabulous new boyfriend's fabulousness for hours on end at time.

Will she come to her senses? You will just have to read it and see. The book is extremely well written. The bright, brassy Brit-speak added another dimension of entertainment for me; the characters were utterly engaging; the tension mounted to excruciating levels, and the surprise ending was--well--just right. I recommend this one highly. Reviewed by Louis N. This is a story about a woman following her heart Well-written, witty, well-paced, but I thought the was ending a bit abrupt and weak compared to the rest of the book.

Though maybe not all that likeable in her own right, I found myself feeling very sympathetic towards the heroine, Dilys, and I feel that every reader will find there's a part of Dilys they'll be able to relate to. Looking forward to reading more from Mavis Cheek. Just couldn't get into it.

This book made me think about adultery, life, relationships and how frail they can be. Also makes you realise that some simple actions can turn your life upside down.

A great story that will have you begging for more. I never read anything by Mavis Cheek, but I saw this and thought, "what a cute little summer read this ought to be. It's not just about an affair, it's also about sibling rivalry that can be so cruel it can manifest itself into adulthood realtionships and decisions. Dilys, the main character, really learned an enormous amount about herself and the people that are most important in her life, which often, gets completely overlooked due to the trials of everyday living. This book was a completely waste of money. I read the Italian edition, but also the title of the English edition is misleading.

First of all, the book is not about an aunt. A certain point an aunt is introduced, and she explain the ruined life of the family, but it is 1 chapter only, and the family history does not really compare to the main character's Dylis. I'd like to get my money back, but I know it is not possible. Really a waste of money. See all 10 reviews.
