Hello everyone, A stunning morning this morning, radiant sunshine and heat, a calm sea, a slight NNE force 3 breeze 9 knots , the crew are sunning themselves on deck in swimsuit and the captain is writing postcards at the table.
We are currently hugging the isle of Lanzarote. This island consists of numerous volcanic cones which appeared following an eruption that started in and went on for 6 years. There are still some fumaroles and small active volcanic vents not to mention a huge plain of black lava. The island is 50 km long and 16 km wide.

From the sea, we can distinguish large beige arid slopes and here and there the white fleck of a village or a few houses. The overall impression you get when looking at this land is one of immense dryness, of arid soil. Easy to explain as it hardly ever rains on Lanzarote. More and more desalination plants, which remove salt from the sea water, supply tourists and the agricultural sector with water.
Here, they grow fields and fields of tomatoes, prickly pears and grapes. We are scheduled to land in Puerto Calero, at the south west of the island at 3 p. We hope to find a place for the night there and it will be easier to organize the parking-up of the boat during the month of November once we get there.
And indeed, Gilbert left us yesterday morning without bidding us goodbye. We were a little sad. I heard the spinnaker beginning to bang and I hurried into the cockpit. The spinnaker had already wrapped itself around the lower headstay, forming pockets, one on top of the mast and another one at the bottom. Once I had the boat back on course, the problem proved to be irresolvable, as the top pocket was preventing the spinnaker from unwinding and slotting back into position. For one moment I thought about climbing the mast to unroll the pocket and then all of a sudden I came up with an idea.
I switched on the engine, opened up the mainsail completely, and swung the boat around so that the mainsail blocked the wind from the top pocket. And immediately, pulled by the force on the lower pocket, the spinnaker unrolled itself and opened itself up in all its glory. We ate early and I went to bed after my final dialysis exchange of the day.
Everyone had a full and perfect night sleep, no alarms of any description. I tried to call the office but, strange, no reply. I called my son on his mobile, to be told: At sea, you lose track of time completely. What a nice trip, we have travelled miles since we left Tangier, miles since we set off first day! Have a nice day, talk to you soon, Jean Louis.
Hello everyone, What a festival! It has all the charm of top quality without all the downsides of luxury. Here luxury is considered to be normal. The moorings are made from polished brass, and are polished up every day, they look like gold. The ladder and guardrails are made from stainless steal and a lot of the buildings have been built in marble. Everything is praiseworthily maintained. We notice straight away that the festival is taking place on this very spot.
Once we had Harmattan moored, we went to conquer the port. First mission, an ice-cold beer on draft. One scene, fantastic sound, two picture walls, what a festival! The weather is great, there are loads of pretty girls, everyone is happy; this looks remarkably like paradise. Basically percussion, everyone is dancing and following the musicians. The girls are already in a trance.
For those of you who love figures, here is something that should keep you happy: As the engine ran for hours, we must change the oil and replace the filter. Now we have to look after the boat, empty the bins, clean the lower parts, wash, and carry out all the small repairs. I must also organize a new supply of pouches before I can continue my journey. No time for a siesta or to visit the island. Also my sincere thanks to all the crew who often took over my cooking and washing-up duties while I was taking care of my medical needs.
This first part of the voyage has been perfect. Have a nice Sunday, Talk to you soon,.
Many problems have been resolved since yesterday morning. First of all, the problem with the trolley of the mainsail. The cleat at the end of the rail was held in place by a bolt across the deck. I took down the roof of the rear cabin and unscrewed the nut. One other problem, the pulley under the boom where it cotters was gone. I have untwisted the anchor sides and put in a bolt of 6.
Another problem, when we arrived at the quay, our drinking-water tank was completely empty, the box room, the lowest part of the boat which acts as a reservoir was about to overflow. I had to turn off the water pump which was roasting hot and get rid of some litres of water from the box room.
Yesterday afternoon I fixed the leak, the pipe that feeds the cold water into the boiler had a bulge. This was caused by the intense heat it had been subjected to during all those hours in the engine room. I cut a piece of pipe, reconnected it and everything is back to normal.
This morning there were several problems on the agenda, the jib was in need of repair, the pouches of dialysate were to be delivered and we had the lazy-jack to deal with. The master sail-maker is French. A very nice guy. I thank him from the bottom of my heart. For any amateur yachtsmen passing through Puerto Calero who are having problems with their sails, I give you his details: And once this last outing is over and done with, the boat will finally be able to take a little rest.
Until then, and while awaiting the arrival of the trade wind, I have plenty of work, among which a biology internship to learn what to do in the event I contract peritonitis, one of the risks of that crossing. During dialysis, there are two moments where asepsis is vital, the first one when I hook myself up to the device and then when I unhook myself from it. One error and I could end up getting peritonitis. They are going to teach me how to culture boxes of Petri plates and to work out an antibiogram.
We really had a great time together; intense moments that will stay with us forever. Yesterday afternoon we had the Harmattan photo shoot. Christophe went by speed boat, and we left with the mainsail, jib and mizzen raised.
After 45 minutes of shots, I hoisted the spinnaker and Christophe kept snapping away. Harmattan was proud as punch and really strutted around. We have some nice photographs and Christophe was happy as Larry. This morning, the dismantling and folding of the jib. My two sherpas brought it to the master sail-maker who is going to look after the mending. It will be a lot harder on my own.
This afternoon we were finally able to free up some time to do some touristy things. It is very, very, very impressive. You really get the feeling you are standing on the moon. Here, between and , the most important volcanic eruptions in history of mankind occurred.
More than twenty villages were buried and fertile land ended up covered under ash and lava. The beach has been pushed back 8 kilometres into the sea. Tens of craters spout stones in every colour, black, red, yellow and others with a green hue. As far as the eye can see, fields of lava crust stretch their desolation; there is no vegetation, no animal life.
I have already visited several volcanoes in the past, but I have never seen anything like this. Here, you have 53 square kilometres of moon landscape. The last eruption dates back to but, as yet, the earth has not cooled down. If you want to have a barbecue, simply make a little hole into the soil and place your grill on top. No need for gas or charcoal; the temperature of the soil is such that it is plenty hot enough to cook your food.
Well, so much for Lanzarote. I was told to forget about shorts and short-sleeved shirts, that warm clothes would be needed. That is going to be hard. Have a good evening, Jean Louis.
I left the boat at noon and after 12 hours of travelling, I arrived home, on the dot of midnight. Today I did some office work. Finally a little time to catch up on my work backlog and above all to reply to all these contacts and e-mails I have been receiving on this blog over the past fifteen days. Didier has begun checking out the shipboard computer to get it back up and running and we went to the Orange shop for my mobile phone. Christophe has kept 45 out of the photographs he took.
He is really happy with his photo report. The first rumours are that they are good. I thank all those who are supporting me and who have dropped me a few lines. I wholeheartedly thank all those who think as I do, that one can live life even when skies are grey, as someone wrote. Right, tomorrow I have an appointment at the hospital for some analyses, to meet my nephrologist and to sort out some formalities before I can get my name onto the transplant list.
Good night everyone, Jean Louis.
It can carry 1. Once I realized that I would be on dialysis soon, I sold my car and bought the camper van instead. I fitted it with a converter so that I could have a V power supply on board and connect the pouch warmer.
Aha, yes, I had forgotten, for those of you who are not familiar with peritoneal dialysis, I must warm up the pouches to body temperature, i. Often, patients must do 4 dialyses per day. I am lucky, my diuresis i. I spent yesterday morning in the hospital. Everything is going well, even a little better than before my departure. The boat is great therapy. I hereby take the opportunity to thank Mr. Verger and all his team who have dedicated a lot of time to helping me and managing all the medical aspect of my adventure. It can magnify up to times. My boys and I had great fun studying the leg of a fly.
What a smashing toy! I should be able to get my biology training in before 11 November. It will definitely be fascinating. I would also like to thank all of you who have taken the time to write me some words of encouragement. From among all the e-mails I received, I would like to quote Claude: Congratulations on this crossing. Reading your blog really pushes me to realize my dream, to tell myself that nothing is ever impossible, even if the sky is grey at times. I received another message that really touched me; it came from the father of Lou-Anne, 4 years of age and on peritoneal dialysis.
Here, an excerpt from his message; I shall also post the photograph of the little girl on my blog: She will be with you during your crossing. That is also real life! Aha, another bit of progress. One of the most important parameters that must be followed up in patients on dialysis is their water retention.
To check that, kidney patients must accurately weigh themselves every morning. When the body retains too much water, blood pressure rises very quickly and you are at risk of pulmonary oedema. That can be fatal. When there is too little water in the body, blood pressure drops, affecting the diuresis. Now, weighing oneself on a boat is impossible.
He is going to check with his colleagues whether they could develop "intelligent" scales. I shall keep you posted. And now, coming to my last point, you will remember the treatment I received at Port Napoleon before I left, where I was forbidden to enter the port with my camper van and to use their electricity for my dialyses. I did send the manager a letter of protest and I have received an apology. Apparently it was a misunderstanding, an error by one of the people in charge.
It seems that the board is taking steps to improve customer relations. Well done, things are moving in the right direction. I shall leave you for now, time to watch the news. Enjoy the rest of your weekend, Jean Louis. Hello everyone, I have been in the Camargue since Monday; the weather is only glorious.
I am spending a lot of time on Napoleon beach in my camper van. Life in a camper van is quite similar to that on a boat. Richard is a true friend; he has a heart of gold. One day he even said to me: In any case, I would have a serious problem with it. Last Friday I met the doctor who does the pre-transplant check-up.
It was a lady; she asked me whether I had a "living donor". Donating your organs after you have died is one thing; I would even consider it normal, although it may be difficult for the close relatives of the deceased. In my backpack I have a brand-new bolt for my mainsail trolley cleat. It was Sylvain in Port Napoleon who made it for me. This chap is really gifted, anything he makes is perfect. For any amateur yachtsmen passing through, look out for the company STM. I am really impressed by the way this blog is developing. By last Monday, not even three weeks after it was set up, surfers from 19 different countries had already visited the blog.
Photography is not one of my specialities. Have a pleasant afternoon, Jean Louis.

Any job you can think of. On boats you have resin, timber, the mechanics that make her sail, electricity, plumbing, electronics, equipment, ropes, painting and above all sanding, tons and tons of sanding.
Harmattan is one of the very first polyester boats. She was built in Abidjan on the Ivory Coast in So she is 40 years old, a ripe old age for a boat. Today you would think she is new. She was designed by Viktor Brix. And what a beautiful boat she is! She has magnificent lines, like the boats from the s, with a lovely deck camber. Decks can be flat, like on the modern boats, but they can also have a camber, i. When this curve is very harmonious, we say that the boat has a lovely deck camber. Often, when I pass boats at sea, people on the other boats take pictures or they give me the thumbs up.
Often, we start to talk and it usually ends in a visit of the boat. I love the Camargue and I love the people from the Camargue. Like all islanders, they are different. They have their own specific words and expressions. Here the people are lovable; to get there you must take the ferry. White sand, turquoise-blue water, stunning mountains.
But what I look for most in my travels is meeting other people. It was in Turkey, in the summer of , while I was doing my great tour of the Mediterranean. In those days, there was a little cabin under the pine trees which catered for the odd sailor passing by where my wife, the children and I had dinner.
The spot has changed a lot, the beach has been laid out and fast launches now bring tourist from the nearby city. In the evening Francine and I go to the restaurant for dinner. During dessert, I tell the waiter that I had already dined here before, twenty years ago. We chat a little but he has other diners to attend to, we arrange to meet the next day to talk a little more.
But during the night, a strong wind comes up, the anchor drags, we have to rush off, what a pity that I wasn't able to cultivate this friendship. Tonight I am full of chat. I am still on Napoleon beach and my friend Jean Louis and his partner Brigite are coming for dinner. I must do my dialysis before they arrive and I must leave you.
Fri, 30 Oct Vraiment top le camping car. They just spent a long weekend in Cergy. He exposed some samples to the great outdoors 3 miles into sea and had them analysed. No problems, the air is sufficiently healthy for me to do the hooking up and unhooking in the cockpit. That is very good news indeed, because this means that I can avoid bouts of seasickness when the weather is bad.

Cormeilles en Vexin 1 November, The camper van is truly fantastic. We got up at 5. Last night we took a trip on a bateau mouche [excursion boat] in Paris. A visit of the city with a gastronomic dinner. What a lovely evening. The meal was outstanding. Paris is so beautiful at night, it is so well lit. As I know Paris very well, I was given the job of tour guide. And like any other night, we were entitled to 4 minutes of special light effects.
It was the icing on the cake. We had a truly marvellous evening. This morning we went on a mushroom hunt. We sampled it at lunch. Then we had oven-baked sea bream, which Richard had brought. This afternoon we are going to visit the aviation museum at Le Bourget.
The glorious moments of farniente [lazing about] are over, time for some action again. I spent the afternoon at Pontoise hospital. On my return from Lanzarote, the exit site was a little sore. That is the spot on my abdomen where the little tube I use to dialyse myself comes out. Eight days ago, when I called into the hospital after I got back, a sample was taken.
I have had no more pain since then and she wants to change the dressing. Verger comes to take a look, a photograph with a little bar code, and everything seems to be ok. For the third time, we revise the CBE CytoBacteriological Examination of the pouch and the preparing and injecting of antibiotics. For the CBE, I must, under perfectly aseptic conditions, take a sample of the liquid in the pouch in which I just emptied my abdomen and culture the aerobic and anaerobic bottles.
If there is the slightest suspicion of peritonitis, I must do this first before I take any antibiotics. They will be broad-spectrum antibiotics in the hope that they will counteract any infection that may be present. Next Tuesday I must go to the biology laboratory to learn how to culture the Petri dishes and how to determine which antibiotic would be the most effective against any infection I could be brewing.
Yesterday I also revised how to prepare and inject antibiotics. The two Christophes were there. Christophe Lepetit who took photographs and my son who did some filming. We invested in a special camera so that I could send you a few videos during my crossing.

This camera records directly on SD card, in normal television format. We received it at lunch time, just before we went to the hospital. Then, I had to weigh myself and do a bioimpedance, then muscle mass and fat mass tests. Arm measurements, including the circumference of my biceps, measuring the thickness of my skin, checking my muscular strength by squeezing a pear.
Today I was in Paris. I always get the same pleasant welcome here. Everything is working out perfectly and I should be ready to leave on the 25th of this month. Yesterday, in the post, I received the form from Baxter, informing me that the pouches would be delivered in Lanzarote on 9 November. It reassures me, thank you Baxter. I also have a little work to do in the office, a few telephone calls to make, clients to see.
I love this bipolar life. One part travel, holidays, adventure and one part professional work. I think that happiness is all about getting the balance right. Right, I must leave you now; I must go and see a client. Talk to you soon,. What strikes me most is the liveliness of the exchanges. The next thing that touches me is how little the public at large know about dialysis in general, and I am not even talking about peritoneal dialysis.
The main point of debate comes from a surfer who does not agree with the others by claiming that this adventure, if it gets media cover, will be detrimental to dialysis patients. Not surprising, I am suddenly shocked and I begin to ask myself some questions. And I would like to set the record straight. First of all, who am I? I am 59 years of age, have 3 children who are 29, 31 and 33 years old.
What really characterizes me best is my independence, my need to be autonomous. I do not like being dependent on others. I think that stems from the fact that I lost both my parents very early on my mother at the age of 12 and my father at the age of They were not rich and I had to make my own way. I got a degree in electronics in they handed it to me on a plate and spent 5 years in the army and then 7 years with SAGEM in the IT section before I set up my own IT company in One year later, I was employing 18 people, and not long after 50 people.
Then 12 years ago, I had the great idea to get involved in real estate and to make some real money, which allowed me, at the age of fifty, to work full-time on my boat and to fund and realize my dreams. In fact, I love taking on new challenges. I need to be able to get up in the morning knowing that I have something to bring to a successful conclusion, and if possible, something big.
I was really worried because I thought that when I had to go on dialysis it would feel like being incarcerated, like being confined to prison. And then, I discovered peritoneal dialysis. I almost made the mistake of opting for haemodialysis! Now that I am undergoing my dialysis through peritoneal dialysis, I lead an almost normal life and I have definitely not lost any of my freedom. Just before I got the news that it was time to resort to dialysis, I had launched a project involving a sailing trip around the world via Patagonia and Cape Horn.
It soon became clear to me that this would be a whole lot easier if I was sailing out on the open sea rather than along the coasts. There is less dramatic manoeuvring to be done on open sea, you see. I immediately felt like crossing the Atlantic on my own, something I had always wanted to do at least once in my life. The question that arose then was whether to do it quietly or to get some media coverage. I thought about it and felt that it might help other people if I talked about my adventure. On the one hand, those who will one day end up on dialysis, by showing them that there is a method of dialysis which allows them to retain their freedom.
A lot of people even think twice about leaving their own homes! It is worth knowing that, in the case of peritoneal dialysis, there are only two important moments where asepsis must be perfect, during hooking up and during unhooking. So with a little shrewdness you can carry on as normal while doing your dialysis, eating, tending to a barbecue.
So all of a sudden dialysis is no longer a constraint and life is still worth living. In fact, and that is the most important part of the messages of support I receive, I feel that you must shout from the rooftops that life is wonderful, that you must never throw in the towel and that you should enjoy life as long as you are still alive. I have been a company manager and I do know that those who do not want to work do not have to be sick to take sick leave.
Please know that throughout my many sessions at the hospital, whether it was for my kidney disease or to look after my cancer, I have never stopped working. I am not in the habit of leaning on the community. I am not a kamikaze, I am used to taking risks, but they are always calculated risks. I am certain that there are far more positive aspects of this adventure to be publicised than negative ones. Many people know nothing about dialysis at the moment and highlighting the modern methods can only help all those people whose lives might one day be affected by it.
They were less than 10 meters away! They were in a complete panic, no doubt on account of the hunters and their dogs beating about the forest.
I straight away made for a tree. The game lasted two or three minutes. They were trying to protect their lives. Good luck my friends.

First of all, hereafter the e-mail I found this morning. It comes from Emma, you might remember, she posted a message on my blog on 29 October. She is the mother of a little 4-year old girl and of twins I myself am a twin. Her little Romain, 10 months old is suffering from renal insufficiency: I am not any good at forums and I am not in the habit of looking for advice on the Internet.
What an amazing discovery Life often has surprises in store and sometimes when you are walking a difficult path, you end up meeting fantastic people who give you courage and energize you. That restores your faith in the values you believe in. I do not know you personally but I want to thank you for achieving your ultimate dreams and for testifying to that in this way on your blog. I have realized for myself that the eternal ups and downs led me to errors of renunciation.
I now know that I was in the process of forgetting how to realize my own desires! Together with my amazing husband, I gave life to 3 treasures, and now it is vital that I pass this gust for life on to them. Like a diligent student, I tell myself every day that this is possible and I refocus my energy and my actions on what is important.
So, you crossing the Atlantic is a bit like a compass to me that shows me the correct course to follow. I am not particularly keen on sailing myself but I am really looking forward to your next newsletter. Even though you will be out on your own, you will not be not alone.
But you knew that already. First of all thank you for your beautiful letter, Thank You for your tolerance, Thank You for the strength you have in you, Thank You for all the things we have in common in the way we look at life, Thank You for facing up to the difficulties, Thank You for having your own "Passion to succeed" also. Finally, Thank You Emma for everything you have given me through this message. Reading this I know that what I do is very little, I would like to do a whole lot more. In conclusion, this dialysis did not incarcerate me, quite the opposite; it has allowed me to meet all these fabulous people and to share their intense emotions.
Emma, once again Thank You for everything. As it happens, my nephrologist, Christian Verger, has a brother who is a biologist. For each dialysis one must connect the double pouch to the catheter and, at the end of the dialysis, this pouch must be disconnected.
This is done under the strictest of aseptic conditions but there is always a risk that you contract a germ and that this germ leads to an infection. If I contract peritonitis, I will be alerted by the symptoms, fever, abdominal pains and, more specifically, the liquid that I recover when I empty my abdomen will be cloudy. My nephrologist told me that, in that case, the first thing to do is to take a broad-spectrum antibiotic.
Once I have identified the germ, I must do an antibiogram to find out which antibiotic could best combat this germ so that I can then inject this antibiotic into the pouches before I infuse myself. It was extremely interesting. You must know how to culture the substrates that you then put in the incubator. For that purpose, I have a second pouch warmer on board as a back-up for the first one which I can cover with my solar furnace.
After 24 to 48 hours, you can check whether it has grown. The substrate has different colour zones. If it has grown on one colour and not on the other, you can already draw some conclusions. Then, if there are colonies, you can do a Gram colouring and study them under the microscope.
In function of what you see, shape and colours, you are making some progress in your deductions. These tubes are magical, like large pencils, composed of about twelve different colour compartments. All you have to do is to immerse the end of the biro into a colony, take off the other cap, pull the metal knob while turning it so that all the compartments are properly cultured and then put everything into the incubator.
Then, 24 hours later, you simply compare the colours to a colour chart to establish which germ you are dealing with. For instance, bright red goes to bright yellow. The antibiogram is not very complicated either. Anyhow, I have two satellite telephones on board and I shall be in contact if I have any problems. So that was my day. Parents of children on dialysis ask me why it would not sit right with me to accept a kidney from a living donor. What bothers me is to be the recipient. I would not for one moment hesitate to give a kidney to one of my nearest and dearest if that was necessary.
In my own case, however, I do not want to inconvenience one of my close relatives for that. I feel that dialysis doesn't interfere with my life a whole lot and that I should therefore not trouble one of my relatives just to gain a few months. That is a great weight off my shoulders.
Like with life, you should never throw in the towel when it comes to mushrooms. This morning I braved the wild boars and my perseverance paid off. In a little spot I know well, nestled amidst bracken and dead leaves, I came across some fine cep specimens that were simply waiting for me. Today I would like to talk to you about the two types of peritoneal dialysis.
You have continuous ambulatory dialysis, based on two pouches. One empty pouch and one full one. You start by emptying your abdomen into the empty pouch and then you fill it up again by infusing the full pouch. There are several types of pouches, each with their own characteristics. Some pouches may be kept for 4 hours, others for 2 and some for up to 16 hours.
The latter is the type of pouch you inject yourself with before you go to bed. The second peritoneal dialysis method is the automated one. You use a machine that can accommodate several full pouches. A very large empty pouch is placed under the bed and all through the night the machine alternatively empties and refills the abdomen. By early morning, the dialysis is over and done with and you have peace of mind for the rest of the day.
It works perfectly well for other people. It is this method that little Lou-Anne uses. We feel that PD is an opportunity for Lou-Anne and her future. This technique must become widely known. In our case, Lou is on automated PD. Lou-Anne attends nursery school, my wife a consultant travels to Dunkirk almost every day and I a sales representative am away a lot.
It takes some organizing to get everything in place but it allows us to enjoy ourselves this weekend we shall be in Disneyland in fact. The only constraints, hygiene and the boot of the car for the pouches as you know all too well. She has been on dialysis for 3 years now; tonight she is undergoing her th dialysis to be precise, all without contracting peritonitis or any infection of the puncture point. This tube is an integral part of her. She plays, rides, and often goes to the swimming pool.
The only thing we avoid is travelling abroad to minimize the risks. Together with other worries, especially the relapse of her genetic condition Atypical Haemolytic Uremic Syndrome. But Lou-Anne is an adventurer nevertheless. She is not afraid of anything and a bit of a daredevil. Fri, 13 Nov Petit tour en Bretagne sud. A little tour of southern Brittany. At the moment we only know one another from the telephone conversations we have had.
He has already helped me greatly and it was in him I confided first about my desire to embark on this adventure. The fact that he is so familiar with my illness and that he is an excellent ocean navigator himself makes me trust him completely and makes that I can rely on him unreservedly. In fact, it was him I called every night when the boat was being escorted to the Canary Islands to relay some general news and some meteorological news. Some years ago he took some dialysis patients on a coastal cruise.
This experience also played a part in my decision to turn my dream into reality. The departure has been scheduled for 12 days from now. I am completely ready and I am a thousand times less stressed than when I was leaving Port Napoleon. Everything is up and running. Yesterday, I popped into Paris to collect my Iridium which had been repaired.
I do have a serious gripe. Last night I received a letter inviting me to go to the vaccination centre as quickly as possible. So, I spoke to Mr. Verger this morning and decided to get the vaccine anyway. On the invitation, no times nor telephone number. I arrive there early afternoon, at 2. On the doors no information about their opening times. So I wasted 40 kilometres and one hour for nothing. What a waste, what a waste of time! Have a nice evening, Talk to you soon,.
We arrived early Saturday afternoon. Very nice, the hotel was built with parts of old boats. What a place for a sailor! I had already infused a pouch of Extraneal at 6. As I can keep that for 16 hours, I had nothing to worry about during the journey. When I arrived at the hotel I immediately warmed an iso, which I can keep for up to 4 hours.
By the time I had taken the luggage up, got sorted, I didn't even wait for it to warm up, I had infused it. As a result, we left the hotel again at 4. We did a spot of shopping for the evening and then left for Quimper. We got back to the hotel at 7 p. He lives in the middle of the woods as a matter of fact, in an area the GPS hasn't heard of. He was also in that photograph. We introduce ourselves and follow his car along the little roads running into the woods. But no, we arrive in the courtyard of a property built in freestone.
We enter and come into a huge room with a fireplace at the far end and a roaring fire. What an enjoyable evening. We end the evening with a home-made Irish coffee any Irish pub would be proud to serve. A very peaceful night, rocked asleep by the sound of the waves on the beach and after a lovely breakfast we take a walk on the beach before we go and visit the closed city. This is one of the bases for racing boats. All the great names of amateur sailing are here.
On account of the race all the boats are unfortunately out at sea. But we do manage to get to see one. We go to a small restaurant and then it is time to leave as we are staying in Caen tonight for tomorrow I shall visit the transplant centre. We must meet the urologist, the nephrologist and the anaesthetist who will then put me on the list of patients awaiting a kidney transplant.
Another well-filled and very enjoyable weekend drawing to a close. One last dialysis and I shall throw myself on my bed as I am dead, it is must be the sea air. Hello, My departure is approaching. In one week, at this time, I will be on a stop-over in Madrid on the way to the sunshine of Lanzarote.
