Grimm pictures : fairy tale archetypes in eight horror and suspense films

Lists with This Book. Mar 27, Danielle Klassen rated it it was amazing. It's rare to be able to read a book of academic analysis and be able to suggest it to other people but this one is a gem. Rankin does an excellent job of linking and making a strong case for the connections between your favorite Grimm tales and eight compelling films of the horror or suspense genres.

I can't praise it enough to say that I could barely put it down and it was delightful to get through.

Well earned five stars in my opinion and easily one of my newest favorites to read on two of my It's rare to be able to read a book of academic analysis and be able to suggest it to other people but this one is a gem. Jul 25, Amy rated it really liked it Shelves: Although I don't agree with all his interpretations, Rankin makes some very interesting points contrasting a popular horror film with one of the Grimm brothers' fairy tales. This is a fast, entertaining read that has made me want to go back and watch these movies again from a different perspective.

    Grimm Pictures – McFarland

    Academic yet accessible, this book draws some interesting parallels between familiar fairy tales and popular horror movies. Some of the connections seem to be a bit of a stretch, but they are all thought-provoking.
