Jul 24, Martina Boone rated it it was amazing. This is a batch of writers with incredible imaginations, all of them with the ability to twist an ending until it gasps in horror. The stories are each very different, from spare and chilling to lush and romantic. They share the ability to paint complete worlds with characters we care about. They also share the fact that you'll be thinking about them long after you finish them. Nov 15, Danielle Forrest rated it it was amazing. At first, I wasn't so sure about this book because of the cover. The cover reminded me of the stories I used to read as a kid.

You know, like Scariest Stories to Tell in the Dark.

I still remember one of the songs in the back. I think it went something like: The worms crawl in, the worms crawl out, in your stomach and out your snout.

Journeys of Wonder, Volume 2 (Volume 2) by Ian Kezsbom

I don't remember the rest, but the cover made me thing of those types of stories. As I read the book, which is quite short and consisting of five short stories, I re At first, I wasn't so sure about this book because of the cover. As I read the book, which is quite short and consisting of five short stories, I realized that this book is a lot like those childhood tales. Except, it is geared and adapted to an adult audience. The first story, "The Door" by Ian Kezsbom, was a perfect start to the series. What is that room? Why are they there? What do they have in common?

You'll have to read to find out. You know bad things are happening. You may even suspect even worse things are going to happen. Still, the author ends the stories with the type of closure I haven't read in years. Happy endings are overrated. The last story, "Afterdeath" by Leslie S. Rose might just have been the most powerful story in the book. The story had me in its grip, on the edge of my seat and vying for the couple, for a happily ever after. And with a collection like this one, there's no telling whether they got it.

So sit back, relax, and enjoy a little piece of your childhood with an adult twist. You'll be glad you did. Kindle for iPad File type: Sep 07, Krista rated it it was amazing Shelves: The great points of the book I liked reading Journeys of Wonder because it gave me something different in each story. The writing is awesome, the stories were totally different each time.

Some dark, scary, others kind of morbid, some stories left you in shock. I loved two short stories in particular titled The Door, which happens to be the first one in the book.

Journeys of Wonder: An Anthology of Genre Fiction, Volume 1

Second one I really liked was titles Infinity, I then also noticed they were from the same author. Not to say that all the stories I did The great points of the book I liked reading Journeys of Wonder because it gave me something different in each story. Not to say that all the stories I didn't enjoy as I really enjoyed reading them all, just those 2 were my favorite. This book is a short read with hopefully alot more to come. I also thought that the cover was very inviting, the authors stayed true to the genre with this cover!

This is a must read especially for Halloween coming up if you want a good scare! In the story The Door, which happens to be my favorite, I really just thought about the Saw at first, people locked in a room with something they were all trying to figure out to get to the conclusion. About mid-story I figured out what was going on but the play out of that story was completely mind-blowing.

Made me stop at the end and think I hope that is not how it goes in real life. There are many stories that leave you thinking WOW, I pictured an ending totally different. That's what I loved about Journeys of Wonder!! Things I did not like about the book Shortness of some of the stories, I have read short stories from Edgar Allan Poe before so I know that some leave you wanting more and that is just what this book did, but I need more in some of the stories.

Upcoming Events

Technically this is not a bad point but as good as this book was I had to pick something I didn't like about it! Jun 28, C. McKenzie rated it really liked it.

Sicily The Wonder of the Mediterranean 1

I'm always interested in the offbeat, the fantastical and chilling, so it was exciting to find five stories in a single anthology that fell into all three categories and raised the fuzz on the back of my neck. I was glad it was a balmy summer day of reading and not one of those wintry dark ones. The Door had a poetic appeal with the use of a repeated story element and a slow, yet well-paced revelation of what the door symbolizes. In Infinity, Ian Kezbom tackles a well-worn theme--time travel, but I'm always interested in the offbeat, the fantastical and chilling, so it was exciting to find five stories in a single anthology that fell into all three categories and raised the fuzz on the back of my neck.

In Infinity, Ian Kezbom tackles a well-worn theme--time travel, but handles it with with a fresh twist, leaving the reader in a time loop. Leslie Rose's love story, Afterdeath, takes place in a world where death is as much a part of a relationship as life, and she builds an amazing world that's teeming with captivating images. Oct 09, Mia Darien rated it it was ok. This wasn't bad, and was a quick read. I found "The Door" well written, although a little predictable. A little interesting and obviously intended to be odd, but kind of boring.

It just didn't grab me. Predictable isn't always bad, but I did not find the book's selling points at all accurate. I did not find any of these stories chilling or frightening.
