Searching for Burma's forgotten World War Two heroes
May 21, Gillian rated it it was amazing. An intriguing, enticing puzzle of a book. It really sweeps you along and I thought it was more of a man's book until I read it but I loved it too. It's fiction based around the Falklands War but it's also a love story, a spy story, a thriller and each chapter twists and turns and only towards the end does the author reveal all. I enjoyed it just as much the second time around. It reminded me of the structure of the movie 'The Usual Suspects', I enjoyed it the second time too once I could spot th An intriguing, enticing puzzle of a book. Another book I started by mistake that I'm so glad I made. His descriptions of conflict are brutally honest, clear, sparse yet not gory. I remember this war, or at least Thatcher's jingoistic portrayal.
Waves of wounded
I also met Surgeon Captain Rick Jolly when he spoke to Liverpool Medical Students a few years after the war and my own experience in the Royal Air Force as a Medical Officer, meant this book of interconnected stories spoke to me.
