The book has some very useful points -- especially on how to deal with doctors, However, the author's basic premise is how to treat anxiety for someone who does not have a serious medical condition. My wife unfortunately does have a serious condition. As a result, much of the book simply is not appropriate or useful for our situation.

Potential buyers should keep that in mind. Being someone who has spent an enormous amount of time reading not only books on various mental health disorders but more often Internet resources geared towards anxiety, most of what I read was not new to me. However, when these things I already had knowledge of were laid out in terms of health specific anxiety, it was a comfort to reread things I had been told from less credible resources.

Unfortunately, this book focuses greatly on relaxation which I struggle with thanks to relaxation-induced anxiety.

However, for those who do not know a great deal about how anxiety disorders work or effective methods for coping, this book would likely be a fantastic help. If nothing else, it helped me work on breaking my cycle of "checking" making sure my heart is beating properly, that things aren't discolored, that sort of thing , as well as reassured me that the physical sensations I felt weren't the source of hysteria.

Just what my worries needed. I'm only 20 pages into this book and feel a tremendous amount of relief. When I was 15, I watched my aunt lose her battle with cancer. For the past 20 years now, I've been a watch dog over my body, fearful of every ache, bump, canker sore, bout of fatigue, stomach pain, you name it. I've lived in fear that a terrible disease was going to jump up, grab me by my throat and take away my beautiful life as I know it. I am not alone. Tons of people deal with this and over analyze every sensation in their body. We take the idea that "if your body hurts it's telling you something" to a whole new level.

You have a high level of distress

I had no idea that fatigue made you feel more than simply tired. Fatigue drags along 10 other sensations. So does being sedentary. I had no idea that lack of movement could cause muscle soreness. This book is clear, direct, and relieving. I'm very much looking forward to the next pages. If you've read this far, you should just buy the book. It's cheaper than your co-pay: Just because a doctor says your healthy doesn't mean he missed something.

It's simply a normal sensation for you to feel. Other people ignore it or don't notice it, but we concentrate on it. I'm sure my eyes will be opened even more as I read on. My only regret is that I didn't know about it a long time ago! A wonderful book which put many of the demons with which I have grappled over the years into sharp focus, and provided simple tools for keeping them at bay. None of the other books listed by Amazon sounded like they dealt with health anxiety, so I tried this one. It is very thorough and simple to understand. It has wonderful tips to use as well as suggestions on how to work with doctors and when to get additional help. Not much is written for the regular person on health anxiety, so this is a very valuable resource. Health anxiety is a form of anxiety in which the person worries excessively about his health and bodily sensations. Going to the doctor repeatedly for assurance does not help because you can get addicted to the reassurance!

By the time you get home from the doctor after he tells you that you are fine, you have convinced yourself that he must have made some type of error or omission of tests, and you are super worried all over again! This book uses cognitive behavior therapy to help break the cycle of worry and fear over symptoms. If you suffer from health anxiety or hypochondriasis, you may benefit greatly from reading this book. For a while, I thought I was literally going to lose my mind. I worried a great deal about every little thing that was going on in my "noisy" body.

The book is written by two experts in the field. They are authorities on this subject and they really hit on all of the issues that people might be facing. This includes healing your gut, improving your serotonin levels and getting your anxiety back under control. Eat a wholesome, real food diet with lots of vegetables. Years of poor diet, medications and environmental toxins altered your bacteria.

I was reading the GAPs book by Campbell but she never went into panic attacks but i just assumed. My problem is i go through one and when i calm down i feel like apart of me didnt come back. Basically like im still in the panic attack mind set. Maybe anxious of starting it again. Thats my only stress.

Everything you explained is like me. I dont know what that is but i have been apathetic and un motivated to things i once did and i cant concentrate to make myself snap out of it and study my bible or go hiking. I can definitely understand the stress that comes with panic attacks.

I wish you the best! I feel exactly like you just explained. I get so down on myself for not trusting God or having the mind of Christ. I have totally changed my diet and hoping it works. I pray your body heals and you find peace. This has really been very informative. Going to begin trying your suggestions. I have suffered from severe panic attacks in the past…and hadnt had them for quite some time, but when i stopped taking my probiotics i noticed them come back with a vengeance. Do you think that cutting out probiotics suddenly could have caused this? It would be hard to say if that caused it, but it could definitely have been a contributing factor as we know anxiety and the gut microbiome are so heavily intertwined.

What kind of fermented foods do you advise? I have gluten sensitivities and my stomach swells no matter what I eat, really…. I personally love sauerkraut and homemade yogurt which I sometimes make with coconut milk. I also take a probiotic. Like you, I have a sensitive stomach as a celiac , but after completely revamping my diet the improvements were extraordinary.

I find the most benefit from making sure my gut is healthy and incorporating breathing and relaxation into my day on a daily basis. Alternative nostril breathing works like a charm for me. I never actually associated the problem with my gut even though that was, in hindsight, the most active reaction to being nervous or anxious. Anxiety is definitely more pervasive than most realize…because out of fear, we tend to keep it under wraps. But the fix is within all of us.
