Coffin is a character we can all relate to whether we live in the suburbs, the countryside, or an urban metropolis.

Mohr, through Coffin, forces us to question what makes us happy. How do we battle with complacency? How do we initiate major change in our lives? What I love about Mohr's style is that he makes you think in a deep way, and his prose style is effortless. A page turner with literary quality is a rare find.

His usage of magical realism is reminiscent of Murukami and Marquez, two of my favorite writers, but now I have another. Also, irrelevant to the quality of the book, Josh Mohr is an awesome, incredible, kind-hearted, hilarious dude! If he's reading in a town near you, go see him. You will be inspired. This has Mohr smeared all over it, from Plock to Mexican Lasagna covered toe. His signature humor is just as cutting as ever, dark, introspective, painful at times, but always with that shiny nugget of redemption pulling our new protagonist on.

Fight Song made me groan as I watched Coffen fall into all the same puddles that I've stepped in from time to time. Made me wary of settling into a passive life removed from the world around me. But most importantly it made me salivate in anticipation of discovering what rum battered, frosted flake encrusted, french toast will taste like when I finally get up the nerve to make it. This is Mohr, just the way you like him. If you've never given him a taste, maybe it's high time you bought yourself some egg, bread, rum and Frosted Flakes, dig in!

Mohr tackles the subject matter of suburban middle-aged ennui and does it with the most subtle snark, yet her serves it up with thoughtfulness and truths about the world we live in. Are your balls held in a box by your boss? Does your Home Owners Association breathe down your neck for weeds a quarter of an inch too long?

Did you receive some piece of garbage gift for the 10th anniversary of your servitude at your brain-numbing job? Would your kids rather stare at screens than experience the real world? Mohr nails all these subjects with humor, compassion, and insanity. You'll howl with laughter. This book was recommended by a friend, and what a creative and interesting story this was!

I had never read any of Joshua Mohr's books, but have since ordered and read his first three. Fight Song was fascinating I read it in one sitting and hated to see the story come to an end. I was inspired and encouraged Mohr's book is full of hope, despite the things life hands his characters. Fight Song is loaded with tongue-in-cheek humor as well.

The combination of humor and hope made this a book I'm buying for my friends. Mohr's work, a sort of contemporary American venture into magical realism, while moving energetically and presenting a number of vibrant characters, does not present the verisimilitude this reader values. Maybe I'm not a gamer, a coder, a hard-core advocate of entry into the world of Guinness-level bizarre athletic achievement, maybe I'm too old for the target demographic, but as I read the account of marital crisis and midlife adventure, I found I really didn't care about the characters.
