Most of the hate happened before this book begins, so this felt very "insta" and they are a pretty solid couple from the start. There was no OM drama. It was almost perfect. I don't have much else to say about it. I cannot wait to get my hands on the next book Gabe's. Therefore yours truly is going to give this one two solid thumbs up.
View all 18 comments. Review at Of Pens and Pages. I don't think R. Scarlett had anything to worry about transitioning from PNR to Contemporary because my god, this novella is a fantastic start to a new sexy series. Filthy Gods promised filthy and will give filthy. He was a mere man, I knew that, but he and his friends were treated like gods. It didn't help they looked it, too. That means it's work for her while they party after school and go on vacations during breaks. She strives to stay on top of the class for a better chance of going to Yale Law but is always bested by Nathaniel Radcliffe, the epitome of rich and privileged.
She's so close to the finish line but things get complicated when her enemy discovers the secret she's been hiding for the last three years. Nathaniel has the upper hand and knowing him, he's not afraid to use it. He offers to keep her secret for a price. What Juliette doesn't know is she's going to enjoy every bit of it. I say this a lot: I'm not usually a fan of alpha males in books. Scarlett is one of the authors who writes alpha heroes I just can't resist. Nathaniel Radcliffe is every bit the alpha with his commanding personality, filthy mouth, and hot as sin body.
He is assertive but is patient in getting what he wants. Loyal and protective of the people who mean the most to him. If you hear someone swooning, that's me. I admire Juliette and her hard work and resilience. She doesn't let these people intimidate her and let anything get in the way of her dreams and goals. Despite their social status, Juliette and Nathaniel are equals.
Filthy Gods
They're both smart go-getters, so it's not a surprise that they're secretly attracted to one another. The length of the story is perfect for Nathaniel and Juliette, showing the positive crackling connection that's been brewing between them since they met. And boy is it explosive. I swear my heart was beating so fast the whole time I was reading this because the sexual tension between them is that intense. You're in for a treat with this steamy enemies-to-lovers romance between two of the smartest students at Yale.
Oh and Rebecca, may we please please please have the rest of the American Gods now? Blog Facebook Twitter Instagram View all 11 comments. As a rule I don't rate novellas 5 stars. It's an extremely difficult task to write much of a story into a very limited word count. So when there comes one along that actually feels almost like a full length novel I make an exception. Filthy Gods is the first in the American Gods series by R.
Scarlett - it's a longish novella I didn't want to stop. This enemy-to-lovers story is addictive as hell and reminded me in that sense of Erin Watt's The Royals. The setup is similar - a couple boys who are t As a rule I don't rate novellas 5 stars. The setup is similar - a couple boys who are the top dogs at Yale, rich, entitled, gorgeous and a girl, poor and struggling to make ends meet.
However, this is where the similarities end. Filthy Gods is dirtier, steamier, hotter. We see Nathaniel through Juliette's eyes, manipulative, arrogant, super-smart and of course we hate him at the beginning but as she softens towards him we realize that he is good, loyal to a fault, protective and sweet, and entirely obsessed with Juliette. I couldn't stop sighing and probably had hearts as eyes, he was amazing.
He so believed in Juliette and supported her, tried to strengthen her and had her back. More than I ever will, more than any bastards whose parents paid their way into Yale. This heroine is feisty, strong and has severe trust issues, no surprise, all she ever learned about people is that they'll eventually leave. She rather runs before exposing herself but Nathaniel doesn't let her get away with it. You know how some heroines just grow on you over time? Yeah, Juliette is one of those.
She isn't somebody you fall in love right away, there is too much anger in her for that, but the more time she spends with Nathaniel, the softer she becomes. It was a little heartbreaking to see how alone she'd been until he came into her life. I had fixated on Nathaniel Radcliffe as my enemy. He became a force that pushed me further, made a powerful energy thrive inside of me to meet him for every challenge. Juliette and Nathaniel are very alike, apart from their lineage. Both are highly competitive, ambitious, their futures all mapped out.
They both work hard to become what they are destined to be. He was already inside of me. He had been for years and now I was laid out in front of him to feast on When you reach the end of Filthy Gods you are rewarded with one of the sweetest epilogues, I adored it but was sad that it was over.

For some reason these two characters have sneaked up on me in the short period of a novella and settled firmly in my heart. This book also introduces the main characters of the upcoming full length novels and let me tell you those boys are hellraisers. They have angst written all over them. Scarlett is a new to me author - I bought a couple of her books a while ago but haven't gotten around reading them yet. This author has an effortless writing style that makes you go on reading although your eyes are dragging and you actually need to sleep.
This novella is a fast read though, I breezed through it. This series is off to a good start! View all 21 comments. Apr 18, Hulya Kara Yuksel rated it it was amazing. Go and grab Nathaniel! A sexy, thrilling, and addicting book baby that will captivate you from the very first page and have you hooked on a new series of bad boys? Well, my friends, that would be this book and it would be this series. Because holy mother of book crack was this good! There was something holy and unholy about the boys. A group of men so rich and powerful they can only be known as American Gods? This is a prequel to what's set to be an amazing new series from R. And while it was a novella, it was wholly satisfying. I'm not usually a reader that gravitates towards novellas, because they always leave me wanting more.
And don't get me wrong, this book left me craving, but craving the rest of the series. The novella itself was a complete story, perfectly paced, and entirely satisfying. Juliette is barely making ends meet. As the girl from the wrong side of the tracks, she's desperately hiding her humble past while trying to make a name for herself at Yale among the wealthy and the entitled.
And at the top of the food chain are the American Gods. Nathaniel Radcliffe may not be one of those bad boys, but he's in with them. He's wealthy, connected, powerful, and her biggest rival in school. Used to his calculated and educated debates with her in class, it's unnerving to be on the receiving end of it outside of school. Especially when she finds out that the country club that she works at is also one that his family owes. And his silence is going to cost her. They agree to a summer fling to work their unwanted lust out of their system, but nothing is ever quite so simple. I fought him—thrust for thrust, kiss for kiss, nip for nip, and he met me each time, working each other to a pleasure so intense, I feared it would end us both.
The novella introduces the reader to a secret society of men. Men that are powerful, broken but deadly. I was salivating at the mere mention of the American Gods and practically shaking to get my hands on their books. Because the set up? As for this book? I loved the instant and undeniable chemistry between Nathaniel and Juliette. I loved how Juliette's strength and perseverance shined through even when she submitted to his powerful presence. The book helped set the scene but it also gave us a deliciously filthy story.
If you're like me and love your angst with plenty of power dynamics and drama, this is an absolute must read! ARC courtesy of author in exchange for an honest review Find me on: View all 13 comments. I am so sorry for the objectification, but Nathan iel What is it about stories that revolve around characters that seem to hate each other that I love so much? In Filthy Gods , Juliette and Nathaniel gave me the push-and-pull, the resistance, and the undeniable chemistry that I was looking for.
The American Gods ruled. Today it may be Yale, but one day they would control the world. Men wanted to be them and women wanted to First of all Men wanted to be them and women wanted to be owned by them. Is it any wonder that they believed they could have anything and anyone they wanted? Juliette didn't stand a chance against Nathaniel. The disparity between the characters, such as wealth, social status and background, only served to make their union that much sweeter.
It seems that no matter the sub-genre, R. Scarlett is an accomplished master of words. She won my devotion with her paranormal Blackest Gold world series and this foray into the contemporary romance scene was nothing short of a success. I only wish this story was longer. Rebecca, you are not allowed to write standalone novellas anymore.

I fell in love with the characters and their relationship pretty quickly. I also really like Juliette. She was strong and willing to do anything for her goals. I could have read about this couple hundreds of more pages. Very well done story which leaves a reader excited for the other books in the series.
This is a standalone as this is one of the "Gods" romance story. It wasn't overdone in that it didn't contain too much sex, or too mean of a hero, or drama that leaves you exhausted.

And how awesome was Nathaniel he always treated treated Juliet as his equal and in her moments of doubt or vulnerability he was there for her reminding her of her strengths.

They challenge each other in every way possible just to get a reaction from one another and believe me they do. Filthy Gods is intoxicating and deliciously hot. Apr 04, Snow rated it it was amazing Shelves: They are called The American Gods and they attend Yale, they are rich, privliged and most of all powerful beyond the grasp. They are the future of this young generation and they tend to own it. Nathaniel Radcliffe is one of the four mentioned "Gods" and he had his eyes set on Juliette Monroe , a girl who is anything BUT rich, privliged or spoiled, she 's the most honest, hard-working, smart, witty and passionate young woman who wants to succeed in this world.
She wants to have the security and power in knowledge and she regrets nothing And even that she owns. One look from him, one scalding hot glance, and my body reacted to him like oil and fire. We were combustible and a destructive force to both of us. What a way to start American Gods off! R Scarlett wasted no time bringing me to my knees and leaving me utterly breathless. Her poetic and captivating words hits my soul. Her characters brought me to life like no other.
Filthy Gods is unlike other books. And it has exceeded all expectations. He never let others control him. He never let others dictate his time or presence. He was steel and iron. Nathaniel Radcliffe Filthy God. With his singular turquoise eyes shadowed by extravagant dark lashes, his presence, his devastatingly handsome looks, his filthy mouth, his intelligence and elegance He is the very definition of privileged. The smug look that you want to slap off every now and again.
The confidence you wish you had. The power you will never feel or see. And he owns them all so well! He is my filthy golden boy. His words, his words alone had the power to ignite me. I love Juliette as the heroine. I love that she lived a life completely opposite from Nathaniel and that her hurdles in life made her the perfect match and challenge for Nathaniel.
Too many people sleep on R Scarlett and her abilities, but after this book you won't know what hit you and will definitely be fully awake. May 14, Elizabeth rated it really liked it Shelves: The American Gods live in a world where rich collegiates rule with their kingdom.
With an intoxicating blend of passion, intrigue, and intensity, this novella packs quite a punch. He had been for years and now I was laid out in front of him to feast on. In fact, he is not just "any guest" but his family owns the estate. Juliette has done everything in her power to lead her friends at Yale to believe that she is spending her summer in France.
Instead of living the life of luxury like her cohorts she is, in fact, desperate to keep her tuition bill paid and must work to earn her own way. Nathaniel, who had always been attracted to Juliette, uses her secret to his benefit. In order to keep her secret safe, she must agree to a secret summer affair with Nathaniel. Even when I'm deep inside of your pussy, owning, possessing you?
The intensity of the read is extreme as Nathaniel and Juliette's chemistry is off the charts. With the added conflict of having to hide from the other guests and their friends and family, the threat of getting caught is always looming. The secondary characters enhance the story greatly as it is clear the GODS are loyal to each other and the ones they love. Overall, I highly recommend Filthy Gods to anyone who enjoys a quick and steamy forbidden romance.
If this introductory novella is only a taste of what is to come, call me famished and ready for more! View all 27 comments. Nathaniel and Juliette could not be more different given their social and financial status, yet they are also very similar when it comes to achieving their goals. Their determination to build a future for themselves and one-up the other is nothing short of deliciously tense as they develop feelings for each other in the process. I thought I knew him, how he enraged me and then he brought out another, hidden emotion. The romance of course moves forward quickly given the shorter page length, however the relationship still has a nice complexity, and is ensconced in angst as their affair is threatened not only by outside influences but also time running out as they set one-time only rules for themselves.

These myths of Ra represented the sun rising as the rebirth of the sun by the sky goddess Nut; thus attributing the concept of rebirth and renewal to Ra and strengthening his role as a creator god as well. He was most commonly featured with a ram's head in the Underworld. In some literature, Ra is described as an aging king with golden flesh, silver bones, and hair of lapis lazuli. He was identified with the local sun god Atum. Ra's local cult began to grow from roughly the Second Dynasty , establishing him as a sun deity. By the Fourth Dynasty , pharaohs were seen as Ra's manifestations on earth, referred to as "Sons of Ra". His worship increased massively in the Fifth Dynasty , when Ra became a state deity and pharaohs had specially aligned pyramids , obelisks , and sun temples built in his honor.
The rulers of the Fifth Dynasty told their followers that they were sons of Ra himself and the wife of the high priest of Heliopolis. During the Middle Kingdom , Ra was increasingly affiliated and combined with other chief deities, especially Amun and Osiris. At the time of the New Kingdom of Egypt , the worship of Ra had become more complicated and grander. The walls of tombs were dedicated to extremely detailed texts that depicted Ra's journey through the underworld. Ra was said to carry the prayers and blessings of the living with the souls of the dead on the sun boat. The idea that Ra aged with the sun became more popular during the rise of the New Kingdom.
Many acts of worship included hymns , prayers, and spells to help Ra and the sun boat overcome Apep. The rise of Christianity in the Roman Empire put an end to the worship of Ra by the citizens of Egypt , [9] and as Ra's popularity suddenly died out, the study of Ra became of purely academic interest even among the Egyptian priests. As with most widely worshiped Egyptian deities, Ra's identity was often combined with other gods, forming an interconnection between deities. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
