Explains why roosters everywhere cock-a-doodle-doo! Very cute take on the story of Christs birth. Great way to keeps kids interested while they learn about the birth. Not extremely detailed in the actual birth of Christ, but very fun book to introduce them to it.

Longer than my son was willing to sit through and not rhythmic enough to hold attention too long. Has a deeper story to it than he is able to pick up on. Better for age 5 maybe. In this sweet story, a young rooster is struggling to crow loudly enough to wake up the other animals. After baby Jesus looks at him with compassion, though, he is able to do so and proclaim the good news of Christ's birth in his own stable.

The rooster is the main character in this, which seems to have bothered a couple of other reviewers, but the One who brings change in the rooster is clearly Christ, so I like this kids' book to use along with the others we use with the kids during the Advent and Christmas seasons. Of course this isn't a literal retelling of the biblical account, which I had to explain to the kids since they might be too young to understand that without explanation.

They're 5, 3, and 1. However, the kids do know animals don't really talk, so maybe they knew that the story had to be fictional.

Shaun The Sheep S02E23 Cocka Doodle Shaun

This story is a cute kids Christmastime story about Old Rooster who crowed every morning in a village in Bethlehem. All the animals knew it was time to start their day when he crowed. Since Old Rooster is old and tired, he wants to start training Harold, the young rooster, how to crow so he can take over his job.

Dec 16, Megan rated it it was ok Shelves: What starts out as the story of a rooster who lacks the confidence to crow, turns into a nativity story, and ends up being a legend of what a rooster's crow means. The story started out with promise, but when the nativity section began, the langauge became less accessible to childen, and the story seemed to lose momentum.

I love the nativity story, but it seemed to be forced in this this book.
