Braeloch, the quiet lakeside refuge, looks more like a dangerous place with a murderer striking victims and angry renters showing up on the doorstep. Turmoil among her own family, distress at work, and problems investigating a murder makes Pat long for city life once more. Can she track down the killer before Bruce gets arrested? Can she resolve the predicament in her family? This exciting novel is sure to keep readers glued to the page until the very end of the book. The characters and setting are so real I felt I was riding along with sleuth Pat Tierney as she hunted for the murderer of a harmless old lady, a lady whose secrets got her killed.

Pat is a financial planner whose sense of justice lets no one off the hook. She started on the trail of financiaI fraudsters in Safe Harbour, the first book in the series and honed her skills in Black Water, book two. Pat, her family and the series just get better and better with each outing. I picked up Raven Lake in an afternoon and couldn't put it down.

Third is this hugely popular series, Raven Lake features financial planner, Pat Tierney, who not only provides money advice but tracks down murderers as well. Don Graves, Canadian Mystery Reviews. May 23, Philip rated it really liked it. Great Read - Now that I have read and enjoyed all 3 books that exist in this series so far I think that this is a very good series and each book seems to be a bit better than the previous one.

This is very much a character driven story with all of Pat's family problems and situations somewhat overshadowing the murders and the secondary mystery subplot which actually has very little of a tie in to the main murder plot. I don't really think the motives were especially strong for the mysteries but Great Read - Now that I have read and enjoyed all 3 books that exist in this series so far I think that this is a very good series and each book seems to be a bit better than the previous one. I don't really think the motives were especially strong for the mysteries but they were quite plausible and not a way over the top.

I really like the cottage country setting and it is kind of neat having the contrasting summer and winter settings in this book and 2 in the series, "Black Water". Maybe Pat learned how to paddle a kayak in a bit of too short a time but she has shown herself to be pretty versatile with things like the ski-doo skipping in the "Black Water" book for instance. Pat's kids and her extended family are all likeable and believable people with normal warts and Tommy and Maxie are still pretty special.

The resolution of the mysteries was a bit predictable and I had the culprits figured out well before the ending which in itself is quite solid and very much tied everything up without a major loose end. I hope Ms McCracken is writing some more full length Pat Tierney mysteries because I'll surely read any more that she releases. Jun 02, Diane Rapp rated it it was amazing. A vacation in cottage country is not peaceful!

I struggled to see what I was reading. Apparently I did okay — at least the audience heard me or so I was told. We writers can learn a few things from attending readings by other authors or in my case from my own reading. Here I learned to always carry a printout in 14 pt. To date, since then, the lights have been bright enough to read from the book. A good writer does not necessarily make a good reader. How often have we attended a reading when the author seemed to be in a race against time understandable as reading time limits can be as little as four minutes , the reading voice was so low we wished they used a mic or the reading was so wooden we dozed off.

The latter may be combined with the author reading way too long. Some of those questions have been a little disconcerting. And yes, what my friend did — used the parking brakes — worked with an automatic car but even I know that there would be problems with a standard car. But it was a wake-up call to make sure I do all my research even when the proof seems to be in the pudding.

A favourite with many audiences is how much of your stories come from real life and if you can run into trouble with that. You could say she inspired the one character.

But many of my characters just show up in my head — like the fraternal twins Dana Bowman and Bast Overture — with a mixture of what I see in the world and what I would like to see. When I put it on this morning, Mama had smiled with pleasure. I thought it made me look quite grownup. And bring down one of your dolls. You can carry it. But you have to work that aspect into your story. Or, as with Sarah Holden, after this outburst from Daddy, she does the following:. I burst into tears and clomped upstairs. I yanked off the sundress and pulled on a vest, long-sleeved dress and a jacket.

Take that hit-and-run on Lake Road last fall. You probably read about it in the Thurston Herald-Times. October 20, I believe was the date. The car interior jarred into brightness.
