Usability was an important topic during the design of the "Leonardo" product line from biolitec AG: Typically, lasers only emit light with one wavelength. This one wavelength is absorbed by the tissue in a specific way and is associated with properties and applications such as cutting, coagulation, evaporation or shrinking.
By combining two wavelengths - and nanometers - in one device, we have the option of changing the effect on the tissue by individually selecting the output of each wavelength. The effects range from excellent deep coagulation, which is essential where bleeding might occur, all the way to a high removal rate and excellent cutting abilities. We can variably adjust the effects by combining the relative outputs of the two wavelengths.
Every conventional device is typically limited in its use in one way or another. CO2 lasers, which have been used in the surgical field for many years, are great for cutting but bad for coagulation.
YAG lasers penetrate deeply into the tissue, coagulate wonderfully but they are not great for cutting. And if they are used for cutting, they cause major tissue damage.

This is due to the corresponding wavelengths and their interaction with the tissue and is something that is nearly impossible to change. We are able to avoid this limitation thanks to the individualized settings for the wavelengths.
