Book 2 of 2. More About the Authors. There are Christian undertones and excerpts throughout the story but not excessively and always used to highlight Lily's journey from where she was to where she ended up. I would have liked to have more detail about Charlie and what made him the way he was. His intense therapy and rehab are mentioned but not in much detail. Perhaps if there is a sequel that part of the storyline can be developed.

There were also a few part of the story that seemed to drag a little for me but after a few pages it was over. There were several times throughout the story that I found myself welling up with tears, wanting to shout at certain characters, or just to take them by the shoulders and shake them. To me, that makes for an excellent story. Overall, an excellent read for anyone who's not afraid to recognize that all storys, people, characters and lives are not sunshine and roses.

Feb 06, Shirley Abeel rated it it was amazing. Munroe is a skillful author whose story drew me in within the first few pages and kept me turning pages. This romance novel is very tastefully done and the characters are both vibrant and believable. Some you want to hate. But there are those with experiences you can relate to and hope for.

I hope this is just the first of a series with more to come. Jan 09, Sarah rated it really liked it Shelves: This was something that I got for free on Amazon kindle. I really enjoyed how completely real that this book was. Too many would have taken the route of "Oh, I was This was something that I got for free on Amazon kindle.

Too many would have taken the route of "Oh, I was raped by my husband! Heal me with your body! Consider me surprised when, during one scene when Charlie tried to have sex with Lily, and she completely freaked out. And that was probably why I liked this book so much. I also felt like this book had the same approach to an attempted suicide, as well as a lot of other psychological issues that the different characters were struggling with throughout the book. Okay, so maybe I'm exaggerating a little bit, but man, I cannot think of a single book that I've read recently that dealt with this in such a realistic way.

What I didn't like: The main love interest was a complete sleeze ball. Granted, men are like that. But Lily continued to go back to him, time after time. And it was horrible. I wish that she'd ended up with David at least, but in the end, it was nothing but Charlie. Sure, he ended up going through what sounded like some pretty intensive and badly-needed therapy, but I wish that the ending had been different. And I seriously wish that the story had come to an end sometime around when they wrapped the filming.

Pretty much everything after "Part 3" seemed to just drag on and on, and I constantly found myself saying "Just end already! Things just seemed rushed, there were misplaced commas, missing words, and typos galore. All-in-all, I'm pretty happy that I managed to snag this, and I might be interested in reading the other books in the series, and other stuff from the author.

Apr 14, T. Readers who like characters older than their 20s. To be clear, I'm the author of this book, so of course, I think it's pretty wonderful. It's the first book of the Lilyland series that chronicles Lily's life after the horrific end of her first marriage. Her romance with Charlie, even after its rough start, is not all sunshine and roses. Their careers as film directors, his addiction, even their shared faith, combine to create situations that may or may not be surmountable.

In Another Place on the Planet, Lily struggles with self-confidence that To be clear, I'm the author of this book, so of course, I think it's pretty wonderful. In Another Place on the Planet, Lily struggles with self-confidence that was never what it could have been, and then was completely trashed by her abusive husband before that relationship burned.

She's surprised that she attracted the attention of Charlie Winston, a charming and popular film director from Los Angeles. She knows she has to learn to see herself in a whole new way and re-engage with her past passions of filmmaking and music to live in his world where he invited her.

The question becomes will she be there with him or without him. Either way, she decides to make a go of it. Fortunately, she meets people who become supporters, friends and more, and she makes some choices she never would have made before. Reviewers agree the characters are believable, strong and compelling. As the author, I find that a great compliment. I hope you enjoy reading my first novel, and I look forward to sharing more with you in the future. Apr 26, T. A few "sex scenes" that were a little uncomfortable for me as a bit of a conservative Christian woman, but it was a realistic part of the character's lives who are struggling with faith issues.

I would read a sequel: This is the photo I received that was autographed by Carlton. It would take all day to find the actual photo.

He was actually scouted by several major league teams in high school, but a book-adapted-into-a-movie worthy car accident ended his baseball career when he was a senior. We even got to a few games at venerated Fenway in Boston. I saw the Yaz hit one of his last homeruns. He quickly adopted the Phillies when we move to Pennsylvania. After 20 years, we ended up in the Phoenix area with the Diamondbacks and marveled at how easy it is to get to games in downtown Phoenix at Chase Field as opposed to the nightmare of Philadelphia.

This was perfectly illustrated when, after winning pennant in a postseason game, the LA thugs desecrated the pool at Chase Field by jumping the outfield fence and rollicking in it, cleats and all. Every Dback fan there ever was was supremely insulted by that deliberate action of disrespect, as was the intention.

But sometimes, you have to put the rivalries aside. Our lovely daughter fell in love with a Yankees fan and a New York Giants fan which is hard to ignore when you grew up in Eagles territory. This was something we had to work through. But we decided to love him anyway, for the sake of our daughter. As far as we can tell, being a New York fan is his only fault. If he grew up in New England and was a Yankees fan, that would be a completely different story.

We might have had to disown our daughter. Mine might be a little different from the other books on this hop. The story of my life. I thought I was being more clever than that. But, I became okay with it. After all, the rags-to-riches Cinderella theme has been popular in many cultures for centuries. In other words, it works. Do me a favor. When she needed dresses she went to the ball on three different days she went to the tree and asked the birds who lived for a dress.

Each time the dress was more magnificent than the last. Like Cinderella, my Lily starts off as underappreciated. Her step-mother is Insecurity. Her stepsisters Shame and Guilt. During that time, she meets a Prince Charming Charlie a bad boy and accomplished film director at a fund-raising gala—like a ball. They light each other up during the evening of dancing and conversation, even exchanging phone numbers, but neither initiates contact. A twist of fate reunites them a year later, and the magic is still there. He even calls her princess…. She even compares herself to Cinderella.

In front of the hall mirror he placed a simple but elegant diamond necklace on me and clasped it. Sophie and Rachel each inserted an earring. Of course, there are several differences. The biggie is his sex addiction, putting happily-ever-after in serious jeopardy.

We also never see the day-to-day life. Does she train birds and design slippers? No Real Housewife life for her! One stepsister cut off a toe and the other her heel to get their feet in the magic shoe.

Another difference is age. Lily is a middle-aged Cinderella with a grown daughter and a painfully failed marriage. In Grimm version of fairy tales, the baddies are always brought to justice. The good girls and guys always win, unlike real life sometimes.
