It has romance and a suspenseful storyline. It kept my interest and kept me up late reading into the night. I want to read more from this author. Aug 23, Yomari Suarez rated it it was amazing. Loved, loved, loved this series!!! Honestly, one of the best I've ever read. I don't usually finish a book with the need of re reading, but that's exactly how I felt after reading this series.
And I'm so glad to find out that there is a Blackstone series, because, honestly, I can't let go. This series has so much raw emotion, twists and turns that the best way to read it is continuously. Broken Broken Trilogy, Book1 Completely loved it!!! Got hooked on the first few minutes of anguish and suspen Loved, loved, loved this series!!! Got hooked on the first few minutes of anguish and suspense and couldn't put it down afterwards. Very descriptive and well developed plot. It's very easy to get lost in the story and picture every scene and feeling.
Savannah and Cole are very likeable and enjoyable characters, really fell in love with not only with them but also with the other characters that interacted throughout. Loved all the twists, turns and even the little heartaches. Shattered Broken Trilogy, Book 2 After the ugly cry I ended up with in Broken, the first chapter of Shattered definitely was a huge relief.
But the relief didn't last long. This book has you in such an emotional high throughout that the tears will find their way soon enough. Love Cole and Savannah's love, heat and relationship. But above all, I loved that the Shadows crew was such a huge part of the story again. Very well written, the suspense will have you on the edge with every twist and turn that has been creatively inserted in the plot, but this love story is so far from complete. Mended Broken Trilogy, Book 3 This series just keeps getting better and better!!! Although this final book in Savannah and Cole's story is a little different from the others, it's still full of emotion and twists that have the reader on an edge.
Once again, the previous book will leave you hyperventilating and with such a high that starting this one immediately is a must. Now that the immediate threat has been taken care of, it's time for Savannah to rebuild her life. A misunderstanding will cause her and Cole and the reader a great anguish, but at the same time relationships will be strengthened and new ones will be built.
Loved that this book centers more on healing and how she developed other relationships. Also, there is a different side of Cole, more alpha male, that definitely make some interesting scenes throughout the book. Mar 04, Ana Paula rated it liked it. I was very surprise about this trilogy. The reviews did not helped a lot, mostly very positive or very negative. I was looking for something entertaining, not too much blood, or too sex or too obvious love story and I have to say, this was quite the good match.
I says quite because: You have to figure it out by yourself how people look like In a postive note, I found the reading good. The author know how to keep the reader addicted to the book with nice characters, story, details action scene and internal reflections of main characters. I recommend this trilogy to those who are not asking too much from a book but would like to read a nice love story with a very interesting thriller background.
I really enjoyed this book with it's different spin on a kidnapping. Savannah's father is a politician. Her mother has passed from cancer and Savannah feels lost. Then she is kidnapped and kept imprisoned in a room with little to eat, in the same clothes she was taken in, rarely allowed to bathe and very poorly treated. And there is a mysterious "American" who refers to her as love. This goes on for six months and she has nearly lost all hope.
Then she is rescued and her life changes. Cole is th I really enjoyed this book with it's different spin on a kidnapping. Cole is the hero who gets her away and he and his team continue to protect her. My only complaint is that she is kind of whiny and self absorbed at times. If she was less whiny, I would have given this five stars. BTW she really does deserve a lot of tears, but it just got a little old. Mar 10, Angela rated it it was amazing. This was a great trilogy that left me feeling every emotion possible. I never knew that a book can do that to you.
There may be a lot of romance in this trilogy but it goes beyond that to me. The author makes you feel so connected to the characters, that you can't put the book down. You will find yourself constantly saying just one more chapter, till you find yourself at the end of the book debating whether you start the next one or give yourself a tiny break to grasp all the things that ha Wow! You will find yourself constantly saying just one more chapter, till you find yourself at the end of the book debating whether you start the next one or give yourself a tiny break to grasp all the things that happened.
There were plenty of twists throughout the trilogy that kept you guessing. By the end of the 3rd book, you feel complete. This is one trilogy that I have added to my reread list and I can't wait to get started on that list. This series was amazing. I laughed, I cried, I felt every emotion I possibly could with this book. The story of Savannah and Cole was just amazing and such a breath of fresh air, and I loved reading their story. I felt like I knew each character personally, and like finishing this series was a little like saying goodbye.
This series is WELL worth the read. They are so badass and real to themselves. The way Carrie Summers describe the scenario is incredible and beautifu I received an ARC copy of this book for an honest review. The way Carrie Summers describe the scenario is incredible and beautiful. I loved how Savra is willing to do a lots of things to find her father - even thou he left his family behind- and how much she loves her sister. She is so badass and fight for what's important to her. Kostan despises everything the Empire stands for, and is willing to give up anything to make a better place for everybody.
I really enjoy how he didn't care where someone was born, but what they stands for. I want more, can't wait for the second book in this series. I recommend this book to everyone. Nov 15, Alexa Abee rated it really liked it.

It was pretty much a One-Click purchase for me…hell, based on the cover alone I wanted it. When it arrived in the mail, I stood in my kitchen and read until chapter 6 before I put it down. But I digress, this is a review for Heart of the Empire and not my age preferences for fictional characters.

Savra comes from a small province that is slowly being pull away from the main continent by the Maelstrom off the coast. She works the sluices collecting metals for the Empire. Kostan is a Scion — one of 13 who have been deemed worthy enough to potentially inherit the throne of Atal — but he hates everything the Empire stands for, and vows to make changes if he should become Emperor. As the Empire crumbles around them, Savra and Kostan have to learn how to stand on their own two feet to navigate and save the Empire, before it collapses to its knees.
I really enjoyed this book, I read about half from my PB copy, and listened to the other have via Audible — highly recommend the audiobook versions — I got really excited when I found out that they existed! There are five points of view in this book, but Savra and Kostan are the main focus. I really liked her as a character.

I really loved her growth and development through this book, because who Savra is at the beginning, is not who she is at the end, but her change only makes her stronger and smarter. I really liked that he had compassion for others when the majority of the people surrounding him only cared about themselves, saw themselves above everyone else. Kostan has this habit of looking out for the little people.
Next, we have Havialo. More about him in the spoiler section, because my feelings are strong about him. It will be interesting to see where his story ends up. Unofficial leader of a rebel group. Willing to do anything to protect his daughter and bring justice to the Empire. If you want a fantasy book that has drama, betrayal, action, love, friendship and magic, you definitely want to check this out!
Sep 28, Elizabeth Thomas rated it really liked it. I was instantly captured by the detailed writing and extensive world building. This is some of the best descriptive writing I have read, though the second half of the book could have used more editing. The descriptions make the story flow beautifully and never get old.
However toward the end, the plot seemed more generic and less thought out. I found myself getting bored right at the climax of the story, and underwhelmed by a plot revelation made by the characters. The story ends open-ended with I was instantly captured by the detailed writing and extensive world building. The story ends open-ended without any major cliff-hanger.
Broken World
Regardless, the detailed world, the stark political turmoil, the descriptions of the different types of magic, and the trials the characters face will definitely keep me waiting for Book 2. The chapters are quite short, and scenes seemed split up prematurely in order to jump back and forth between POVs. I would have preferred longer scenes, and a more consistent timeline between the characters. Speaking of POVs, this book is an undesirable mix of 1st person and 3rd person.
The two main characters, Savra and Kostan, are written in 1st person, where all other characters are in 3rd person. My preference is for an entire book to be in 3rd person, so it definitely took some getting used to. But it won't keep me from coming back for more. With two young angst-ridden protagonists, I was expecting more of a teenage romance in the book. Instead I had to settle with a single scene of infatuation-at-first-sight.
I was disappointed in this, as the protagonists have the good makings of star-crossed lovers. I can only hope something develops throughout the series, and hopefully doesn't take too much longer Aug 10, L. Bus rated it it was amazing Shelves: This is such a good book, the storyline, the details, the worlds, the characters, I loved everything about it. It is so well written, reading pace is fast and still all this finished details.
The only thing that was a bit less is getting used to the different pov's. Each chapter it switches. You read about Savra or Kostan, both written in first person. There are some other chapters about other people, they are written in third person, can't really ellaborate without spoilering so I'l Wow, epic There are some other chapters about other people, they are written in third person, can't really ellaborate without spoilering so I'll leave it at that. But the two pov in first person and the few others in third really help as to not getting too confused about which character that certain chapter is about.
Although every chapter begins with a very handy summary of the main character and the whereabouts of that person. So not much room for confusion. Carrie seems to have been thinking about everything, defenitily will be reading her other works! Such a great storyline without holes, everything is well designed and the plot is just great. It ends with so much possibilities since it's not quite sure whether the Empire is left in good hands or not.
And still not really a cliffhanger, it is such a great ending to the first installment of what seems to be a great series. Can't wait for book two!! Aug 14, Andria Potter rated it it was amazing Shelves: I read this book in the span of a week sidetracked due to summer ARCs received in the mail, and outings, and whatnot , and will try to read it in one sitting in the future. The author is an excellent story-teller.
I loved her way with words, how she made the story flow, and the overall story was good. Savra is an awesome character-much like a young Khalessi, in fact, only without dragons or any of the Game of Thrones characters. She also vaguely reminded me of Caelaena Sardothian from the Thron I read this book in the span of a week sidetracked due to summer ARCs received in the mail, and outings, and whatnot , and will try to read it in one sitting in the future. She also vaguely reminded me of Caelaena Sardothian from the Throne of Glass series.
The story was brisk, fast paced though it did have a few interludes where it slowed down to explain things, which I liked. The setting was sharp and vivid, and everyone was fighting to stay alive in a realm where the empire rules with an iron fist. Everyone had their own goals, their own plans, and it was all very real and very lifelike. I definitely am going to read the next book in the series, because I want to savor all of this series.
It's like a hidden gem; full of awesome goodness that you didn't expect to find but you're pleasantly surprised that you've done so. Five stars to a job splendidly done! Jan 16, Anca rated it really liked it. The world building in this was really really well done and the plot a lot more convoluted in a good way than I expected this to be. I am also a sucker for interesting covers, and I will admit that most of the books I pick up are based on the cover.
I liked just about all of the characters.
Broken World (Broken World, book 1) by Kate L Mary
Well written and each had their own depth. The only problem I had was that sometimes the characters rambled on to themselves, which had me bored and skimming over parts. This is an interesting world. It sort The world building in this was really really well done and the plot a lot more convoluted in a good way than I expected this to be. It sort of reminds me of The Red Queen series, where there is a division in the people and the lower Provs class gets treated like crap and only because of their birth.
This was faced paced too, I didn't expect to finish as fast as I did and when it ended, I was really disappointed because I wanted more. It could take so many paths, and there is still so much to learn about this magical world.
