The most unusual of Delaware's covered bridges was the one that crossed the famed Deep Cut on the Chesasapeake and Delaware Canal. Twenty-five hundred men dug and blasted through a ridge of solid rock nearly a mile long to create this gash. This covered bridge with its ornate windows and boxed portals, became a landmark to helmsmen guiding their canal boars behind plodding mules along the old waterway.
Known as both Buck's Bridge and Summit Bridge, the high span was replaced in by a swing draw bridge at a lower level. Northeast of Granogue, and only a few paces from the Arc of the Northern Boundary, is Smith's Bridge, the best preserved of Delaware's remaining authentic covered bridges.

It is open under the eaves for ventilation. The bridge has one opposing horizontal window three quarters the length of the bridge on each side with a small awning type roof over the openings.
The deck consists of lengthwise planking and it has a shake roof. The bridge is also known as the Smith Bridge.

The bridge rests on stone abutments. The bridge is covered with barn red painted vertical boarding on the sides and splash panels with horizontal boarding with white trim covering the portals.
