And make no mistake about it, The power of God is present in a believer's life because of God's presence in a believer's life through The Holy Spirit! Let's pray and ask God to help us discover how this can change our lives!
Folks, before we begin, I have an apology to make. Last week, I inadvertently gave you some wrong information. That's what happens when I get a way from my notes. I had researched several of the things in the gospel of Luke that are exclusive to Luke's gospel. The centurion at the crucifixion is not one of them. In the second service I realized my mistake further into my message so after the offering I jumped back up and alerted them to my mistake. Just wanted to clear that up.

Let me say this, when it comes to the amazing privilege I have to preach and teach God's Word, I give Him all the glory and I can only take the credit when a mistake is made! Yep, I did that! Now, let's see how the gospel is unleashed by His Power. Our text is found in Luke's second volume of his writings, known as the Book of Acts. So let's read Acts 1: But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.
A different kind of power than the world's power! After everything the disciples had seen and heard, they were still stuck in their limited understanding. They were followers of Jesus and were astonished and amazed at seeing Jesus resurrected from the grave, and yet they were having such a hard time getting their eyes off the world and its ways. Like the teachers of the law and the religious leaders of their day they were still looking for Jesus to be their political Savior, their physical earthly king.
They wanted to see Israel returned to her former glory when they were a world power and respected and feared by other nations. They wanted the power and prestige that comes along with that!
They were looking for worldly blessings from God! Not that that wasn't going to happen at some point in the future, but Jesus wanted them to know and understand that God's Kingdom was so much more than simply being powerful in the things and ways of the world. The disciples were still under the impression that the only way to change the world was to be in control, to be in charge, to be the rulers, to be the political power brokers.
They needed to understand that the Kingdom of God was different, very different! You may wonder what the Kingdom of God is. The Kingdom of God is anywhere in which God rules. But here's the kicker: While God is all powerful in every way, He only sets up His Kingdom rule where He is invited to rule and you might be surprised where He most desires to rule.
Jesus spoke of this place in The Gospel of Luke God created this world and has ultimate power over this world and can exert that power at any moment or time, but He purposely gave humankind a choice when it comes to His Lordship in our lives and we must decide whether or not we will allow His Kingdom to be established within our hearts. Jesus also said this when speaking to Pilate, just before the crucifixion If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jews.
But now my kingdom is from another place.

I believe He's talking about a kingdom of the heart! And how does God set up His Kingdom in a person's heart? How do we allow the power of God to reign supreme in our hearts? If you've never placed your faith and trust in Jesus it's about inviting God into your life by way of His Holy Spirit! It's admitting you're not perfect and need a Savior. For those of us who have already made this decision it's about allowing the Holy Spirit free reign in every area of your life. You may have heard me say this before, but being filled with The Holy Spirit is not us getting more Spirit, but The Spirit getting more of us!
About the Book
And when that happens, power to live life in victory regardless of circumstances takes place! And all of this happens because The Holy Spirit brings God's presence into our lives in a very tangible and meaningful way. When we do the opposite and follow the world's way of dealing with life we will seek to be in control of everything.
We will try to use our own power, our resources, our strength, and our own human wisdom to get the upper hand. The problem is the world is relentless and circumstances are ever changing and the truth is you and I simply cannot control life! I don't care how much physical power you have, or financial power, or political power, you will at some point realize your power is not enough.
The tragedy many times is this: People who depend on the world's power and resources leave a path of destruction in their pursuit to control their lives or they just get discouraged and give up on life. Either way it's not good.

But when we allow The Holy Spirit to bring the presence of God into every situation and circumstance we can overcome.
