Fatima Bramme Sey has delivered some fine music over the years, but there's always been a feeling that there's still a genuinely killer album in her that's yet to come out. It's the sort of album that could turn her into a star - and that accolade would be thoroughly deserved. Touch Me In The Morning 12". Here, the sought-after 12" is given a replica reissue, with the stomping, string-drenched title track being accompanied by exactly the same B-side cuts as the '79 pressing. Melodies Of Love heavyweight vinyl 12" 1 per customer.

John Rocca's more synth-based side project Pink Rhythm continues its reissue revival with this highly sought-after 12" that's not been reissued since Peak yacht funk with all the lavish production flourishes of the era, and strong traces of jazz, each cut stimulates: Hot on the heels of "Mission" earlier this year, Shuya Okino's Kyoto Jazz Sextet troupe present another gem from last year's Unity album complete with a remix of the highest calibre.

This time the cascading, Latin rhythm and frenetic horn leads of "Rising" are given the midas dancefloor touch by none other than Ron Trent. Maintaining the wily spirit of the original while coating in warm organ blasts and subtly bumping kicks, it's a precision translation that brings the original into a whole new context. I Can See Through You 7". The Complete Series gatefold 2xLP. Names You Can Trust. With a unique sound that offers up a particularly psychedelic, otherworldly fusion of Latin rhythms and instrumentation, Meridian Brothers have long been one of Columbia's most exciting musical exports.

While obviously influenced by vintage Harlem boogaloo and NYC salsa, it's an altogether quirkier proposition complete with tongue-in-cheek vocals. Flipside "Poema Del Salsero Resentido" explores similar sonic territory but somehow feels lighter and more airy in tone. It remains a killer record in its' own right, though, as this timely reissue proves. Originally released in , it sees McRae at her powerful best, delivering a potent message to an errant lover over a killer, low-slung disco-funk groove. It's one of the tracks that should really be in any discerning funk, soul or disco DJ's collection.

It's good, but pales into insignificance compared to the brilliant 'A' side. Back to for this insanely rare four-figure-ticket funk piece. With a groove so lavish it spills over into two parts, everything about this tickles the right spot. Shrilling horn fills, thumping breaks, swooning harmonies on the chorus and an open top vibe that's so tangible you can feel the breeze.

Spotted passing hands for over quid in the past, this reissue is long, long, long overdue. La Casa Tropical Holland. Tapping us back 30 years to one of the city's many exciting melting pot musical chapters, the self titled album unearths some of the most exciting records made by Francophone acts who made their way from the likes of Senegal and Cameroon to the French capital and fused with European bands. Ranging from dancefloor afrofunk to poppier highlife tracks and Congolese soukous the album captures a unique energy and movement that's so positive and upbeat it's palpable.

Video A-Z List

Before he found fame as a funk and soul fusionist, he had spells pimping in New York, dancing in television shows and working as a teenage shoeshine. He was catapulted to fame - in his native country, at least - by the release of the B. Here, his sought after '72 masterpiece, Toni, finally gets the reissue treatment courtesy of Portugal's Mad About Records. The set is considered something of a "Black Rio" masterpiece and remains something of a must-have for those interested by the blurry middle ground between U.

S soul and funk, big band jazz, Brazilian pop and tropical grooves one of Tornado's parents was from Guyana. Original pressings are hard to come by, so this should be an essential purchase. Ban Cha limited hand-stamped 12". Summer Night EP reissue heavyweight vinyl 12". Final Flight 7" 1 per customer. Thundercat's superb "Final Fight", a digital-only single earlier in the year, finally comes to vinyl. Sneakily, Brainfeeder only released it in Japan, hence the limited number of copies that have made it to Europe. It's worth the investment, though, because the song is one of the American's most endearing to date - a dewy-eyed chunk of eccentric, off-kilter soul where multi-tracked, blue-eyed soul style vocals, glistening jazz guitar arpeggios and fizzing synth sounds ride an aquatic, futuristic bassline.

On the flip you'll find another previously digital-only release, "Bowzer's Ballad". This is an endearing, eight-bit tribute to former Nintendo boss Hiroshi Yamauchi. It was written in the weeks following his death, and features waves of electric piano and Game Boy soundtrack style synth solos. Having recently rediscovered it on an old hard drive, Jones has decided to release it on Biasonic.

The seven-inch contains both vocal and instrumental versions, with the former hitting home hardest thanks to Fyza's fine vocal, which reminded us a little of classic broken beat cuts by Bugz In The Attic and Neon Phusion. Musically, the backing track doffs a cap to those West London acts, too, as well as Jones' soul-fired bruk-up project for Hospital Records, Phuturistix.

Headhunters gram audiophile vinyl LP. Since first emerging at the tail end of the '90s, Simon Green has become downtempo music's most marketable star, appealing just as much to occasional listeners and something housewives as underground heads. Throughout that time, he's carefully shifted his sound to take in current trends and musical developments, whilst retaining a certain picturesque aesthetic. This fifth full-length, his fourth for Ninja Tune, continues that trend.

Amongst the usual shuffling beats and twinkling melodies you'll find garage-esque vocal cut-ups, rubbery dancefloor rhythms, Floating Points style neo-jazz, string-laden two-step and some seriously wonky soul featuring vocals from Erykah Badu. You have to admire Leon Vynehall's ambition. Although he built his career by delivering atmospheric, otherworldly club music, his first set for Ninja Tune is a sprawling, largely ambient - or at the very least hazy and horizontal - concept album inspired by the story of his parents emigrating to New York.

Thus, the ten tracks that make up the album - crafted from a combination of field recordings, sound effects, orchestral instrumentation recorded at Konk's studio in New York and his own sublime electronics - were produced and sequenced to tell a story. It's epic stuff, all told, but crucially also incredibly good. It proves, without any shadow of a doubt, that Vynehall is a producer with talent to match his widescreen vision. Painel De Controle begins with a Waxist mix of "Relax", a chilled-out boogie monster with sultry vocals, while "Ripa Na Xulipa" by Rabo De Saia is more uplifting and heavy on the disco strings. Little Girl Blue gram green vinyl LP in die-cut sleeve. This record had an incredible amount of attention around it even before its release and to be honest, it ain't no surprise!

It's just a future classic, end of discussion - it takes Detroit's fine soul and funk heritage onto a new level, showing us that classics are still very much in the making. Porter's own voice is majestic and prophetic as he talks about "Motor City burnin'" and who then goes on to deliver his powerful and emotional words. There's even a slightly "housier" remix by Opolopo, giving us the chance to also enjoy this mighty record at the centre of late-night set Fiel , Smoove , J. Looking Up To You 7". Soul Of A Nation: Last year, Soul Jazz Records began to examine the relationship between protest, politics and music in the "black power era" via a fine compilation released in celebration of Tate Modern's "The Soul of a Nation" exhibition.

This follow-up, released to mark the exhibition's move to Brooklyn, continues the story, gathering together another essential selection of jazz and street-funk cuts by African-American artists - both well-known and obscure - who were inspired by the politics of the black power movement and a growing interest in what the label describes as "Afro-centric, polyrhythmical styles of music". Make Me Believe In You 7". Should you require further evidence of the all-round genius of Curtis Mayfield, look no further than this early '70s funk gem from Patti Jo. That rolling drum intro, the ear-wagging piano, the subtle orchestration and, above all, Patti Jo's killer vocal all combine for a perfect example of the halcyon days when funk was beginning to transform into disco.

Mayfield himself later covered the track for the closer to his Sweet Exorcist LP! Any self-respecting DJ needs the A-side though. Ain't No Sunshine 7". Amongst fans of Brazilian music, Sivuca is arguably best known for his cover of "Ain't No Sunshine" - later a favourite on the rare groove scene - which re-casts the Bill Withers classic as a sumptuous chunk of shuffling samba sunshine. Here, the track gets reissued as part of Mr Bongo's brilliant Brazil 45s series, alongside his lesser-known - but no less impressive - cover of Edu Lobo's "Ponteio".

Rocket In The Pocket 7" limited to copies. Blossoming into a highly collectable 45 series throughout the year with an exciting balance of heavy hitters and more obscure funk gems, the anonymous editors behind the label have been pulling out some seriously vital break sources and giving them a polish in the drum department throughout the year.

This release is all about the heavy hitters as Cerrone's staggering, tripped out proto electro get a wry chunk up and while the clam tight groove on James Brown's "Can I Get Some Help" is given the extension it deserves. These are the breaks. Following the success of their Africa Airways series, London's Africa Seven introduces a new compilation focusing on some of the continent's most recognised female artists - and even some underrated heroines. The under-acknowledged musical contribution that African women have given to the funky sounds of Africa are celebrated here.

This release will coincide with International Womens Day, and indeed what a tribute. Makeba is known equally for her musical contributions as she is in fighting the apartheid and becoming a UN Ambassador. Only You reissue LP. Would You Believe In Me 7". This excellent seven-inch single mines the rich seam of Terry Callier style folk-soul that is Jon Lucien's incredible album "Rashida". On the A-side you'll find the brilliantly breezy, horn-heavy samba-soul sunshine of "Would You Believe In Me", a song so beloved to Lucien that he re-recorded it several times later in his career.

On the B-side you'll find the arguably even sweeter and more loved-up "Kuenda", where Lucien delivers attractive scat-style, double-racked freestyle vocals over a backing track rich in finger-picked folk guitar arpeggio lines and atmospheric field recordings of nature. It's a joyously simple track, but one that will stay with you for hours after you've put the record back on the shelf. Chip Wickham, who usually goes by the first name of Roger, returns to Madrid's excellent Lovemonk label with a mini LP to inaugurare the start of summer, which means a start to some pretty killer shades of balearica!

In fairness, however, this album and the man's sound are much more in line with the jazzy end of the spectrum, breaking beats and forming new, forward-thinking arrangements. For instance, the opening "Shamal Wind" is a wonderful excursion into dreamier realms of the flute, while "Snake Eyes" picks up the tempo and makes way for an album thy can be plaid on your headphones, out on the car speakers, and most certainly in the dance! A wonderfully composed piece of music from a rising talent of true broken beat. Destination Nigeria, , Fela and Africa 70 are indelibly locked into a hugely prolific groove with well over 10 albums behind them.

Then they release this, an LP comprised solely of two wondrously extended work outs from the troupe. One of Fela's many notable and hugely influential releases; your collection isn't complete without it. This tidy reissue gathers together tracks from two different Esther Phillips singles, both of which were originally released in Sounding a little like the period "conscious soul" of Curtis Mayfield and Marvin Gaye, the track is brilliantly arranged and performed by Phillips and her assembled studio musicians.

Faze Action , Osmose , I Love 45's! When it comes to break-driven dancefloor reworks and cheeky re-edits, Canada-based cut-and-paste merchant Jorun Bombay has a very impressive track record. Here he returns to Scarborough stable Soundweight with two more chunks of break-heavy goodness.

On the A-side you'll find "Edits Theme", a tasty fusion of extended James Brown style drum-breaks, meandering sax solos and sumptuous, orchestra-enhanced orchestration. Over on Side B, "Editing Gears" sees Bombay serve up a bustling re-work of Johnny Hammond classic "Shifting Gears" rich in fluid electric piano solos, extended drum breaks, flanged funk guitars and delay-laden vocal snippets.
