What would I do if I lost my sight? I didn't think my fingers were sensitive enough to be able to read Braille. It got to the point where I was almost afraid of going to sleep, because I didn't know whether or not I would wake up and have sight again. And if I did go blind in the middle of the night, how would I know? My initial relationship with technology was not amiable.

As a small child, it was in my nature to be afraid of objects, things, that moved. Things did not move. Trees moved, in the wind. I knew this innately. Thus, when toy companies began inventing robotic balls that bounced on their own, remote-controlled racing cars and dolls that talked back, my safe little world was shattered.
