Melodies bleed from every song. They get in you and don't want to leave. The playing is gifted and creative, smart and fun. You'll sing along to the bass and guitar parts as often as the vocals. The production shimmers without being too shiny or digital-clean. There's synthesizers and guitars in an embrace that brings old and new musical stylings together to create a brand new baby.

The whole cd just cooks. After a few listens, you'll be completely hooked and won't be able to eject it from whichever player has the good fortune to play it.

There's simply no way you cannot love these songs. I dare you not to. If you get it, you'll love it. If you don't, you'll miss it. New Order is back in the finest form. The sticker on the CD claims that this is their best album in 15 years. I beg to differ: This is their best album in 20 years, easliy. But while it stays true to the New Order sound, it's also shockingly vibrant and alive. At no point does it sound like a tired old recycle like so many other good 80s bands that have continued to turn out new albums.

Classic New Order fans won't be disapointed, and if you're just discovering them for the first time I can't think of a better place to start. One person found this helpful. New Order's latest, Waiting for the Sirens' Call, on first listen is underwhelming. But after having given it several repeat listens, my impression of it has changed. This is a very good cd. There are some guitar-oriented stuff and some electronic-techno-oriented stuff, but never does one clearly dominate the other.

Rather, New Order has gracefully melded the two into a great, albeit a bit mellower, sounding, whole. The rest is also very good, tinged they all are with a bit of melencholia. You won't find any instantly memorable songs like True Faith, Bizarre Love Triangle, or, even, Crystal; nor will you find all out guitar-driven rock tunes. In fact, most of the stuff on this cd is tamer and slower, lacking the edge and vigor that defined New Order of old.

However, this cd is still very good in that the songs are more mature-sounding. Although clearly not as genre-defining and great as Substance, Power Corruption and Lies, or, even, Brotherhood, Waiting for the Sirens' Call is still great stuff from a great band. I have to disagree with all the naysayers.

This album deserves 5 stars and I am perplexed at anyone who would give it less than 4. I've been following NO for 3 decades now myself, and I have to say this is most certainly their strongest, most consistent and satisfying studio album to date. Their just isn't a weak track on the entire album. These guys are at the top of their game way past what would be considered their "prime. MP3 Music Verified Purchase.

Chris Lawyer & Bricklake - Sirens Call (feat. Rico Caruso) (Official Music Video)

General Comment this song is partially a passage from the book, The Odyssey. It's more ambiguous then it leads on to be and I don't suppose most people would catch it. In the mean time our good ship, with that perfect wind to drive her, fast approached the Sirens' Isle. But now the breeze dropped, some power lulled the waves, and a breathless calm set in. Rising from their seats my men drew in the sail and threw it into the hold, then sat down at the oars, and churned the water white with blades of polished pine. Meanwhile I took a large round of wax, cut it up small with my sword, and kneaded the pieces with all the strength of my fingers.

The wax soon yielded to my vigorous treatment and grew warm, for I had the rays of my Lord the Sun to help me. I took each of my men in turn and plugged their ears with it. They then made me a prisoner on my ship by binding me hand and foot, standing me up by the step of the mast and tying the rope's ends to the mast itself. This done, they sat down once more and struck the grey water with their oars. No seaoman ever sailed his black ship past this spot without listening to the sweet tonest that flow from our lips.
