Nov 26, Louise rated it it was amazing Shelves: This is a bit of a grower - it didn't immediately grab me but by the end boy was I hooked. In fact after the first chapter or so I wasn't even sure I would complete the book. All I can say is keep going because you will soon reach the point where you don't want to put the book down. This book totally deserves a solid 5 stars. I also want to say DO NOT judge this book by it's cover - this is very much a contemporary book that fits into no genre and many genres at the same time!

This is the first b This is a bit of a grower - it didn't immediately grab me but by the end boy was I hooked. This is the first book I have read by this author and I will definitely be reading more - particularly as this is part of a trilogy, and whilst it doesn't end on a cliff-hanger, neither does the story end. Thankfully the author doesn't write for just for me and has produced a book with amazing tension, an astounding and outstanding plot and excellent character development. There were a few minor editing errors but not enough to spoil my enjoyment of this book.

Some of the characters you know immediately are in the 'good' camp or 'bad' camp but others having you guessing and changing your mind. The author drip-feeds information about the characters and the back story expertly, just enough to keep the pace steady but not too much to spoil the suspense element. I like Iris as a character, she is a young adult and whilst some of her choices, actions and reactions may be foolish, they are normal for a young girl coming to terms with the death of her father.

Add to this he was her only known living relative, she is experiencing strange dreams and has odd people showing up in her life - all within a short space of time - you can forgive Iris anything. I also like the fact that whilst this is a story about Iris, there are many other characters that are involved in the story and who we get to know.

To be honest I can't sing the praises of this book enough. And I certainly can't wait to find out what happens next. Thank you for an amazing read Ainsley Shay. Additionally, when going through her father's belongings, she came across a box with a statue that matches the tattoo covering her birthmark, along with a letter to her father from C. Adding to the mystery, there are several new people in town who have an unnatural interest in her -- Chandler and Blacwin. Blacwin's interest appears to be more of a romantic interest, although even that is not entirely clear. There is also a new creative writing teacher at the local high school, Mr. Pene, who seems overly interested in Iris, much to her dismay and dislike.

Chandler and Blacwin seem to have some knowledge of what is happening to Iris, but will not tell her what they know. The author has created a very compelling group of characters that engage the reader -- you want to know more about them and what will happen to them in the future. The author is also quite good at sustaining the mystery and suspense, providing small bits of information that give Iris as well as the reader some insight into what might be happening, but which often lead to more questions and more mystery. The more you read, the more you want to know.

I look forward to reading the second book and later the third book to find more answers to the mysteries in the first book and to see what happens to Iris. Sep 02, Lorie rated it it was ok. Slow build up The storyline was interesting but it was so slow and boring. The characters were annoying. Didn't care for the best friend and the main character was weak. Too much side descriptions in between conversation. Couldn't connect with the characters. Slow development of the plot and characters.

I mean for the mc to be thinking of her brother Chandler to being hot at first was inappropriate. Just gave up since I realized I was flipping the pages more than reading them. From a grey life during the day, to color filled dreams, this was a great read. A lot of mystery and wondering if some of the characters were really good or really bad.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would recommend it to others. Lexi is strong and she was making such great progress. I felt like at times Dez held her back a little. Of course I could have also done with a little jealousy. Not anything annoying or overbearing, but maybe just a little interest from another guy to get Dez just a smidge shaken up. In books, that is. In real life I can do without it, but for whatever reason I like a reasonably jealous main guy.

But too much turns me off. Dez was not jealous at all, and he was great. I just felt like something was missing from his character. The story in Amber Eyes just kind of floats along. It was never too slow, and certainly not too fast. But boy, oh boy the conflict is going to be a good one. I loved how it set up the next book. It is going to be good. The last 50 pages of the book are by far, my favorite. Lexi survives a horrible accident, her best friend is not so lucky. After trying to deal with her grief with the help of her friends and family, her life starts to get back on track when she meets Dez, a new guy at school.

Then Lexi starts to have the most vivid dreams that seem to drag her back in time and into the arms of a very familiar stranger, Dez. Lexi feels so safe with Dez, things have never been better, but lingering in the shadows in something evil. Something that is a threat to her very existence and to a love she knows has transcended through time. I know the book cover says Entwined Souls but it was surprising to me where the author takes us.

I have to be careful because part of the charm of this book is the surprises.

The range of emotions so vast and vivid. The setting, here in Wisconsin, places a native will recognize, even though the exact place in not named added to my enjoyment. I also loved the kitty in the story. One particular part had me laughing out loud. I do not usually read young adult or much paranormal but it is books like this that have me changing my reading comfort level.

If you are fan of these genres this a book to pick up today. If like me you are usually not comfortable in those areas this is the book and the author that will have you second guessing yourself. I am calling this one a must read and a perfect escape!!! Lexi should have been killed in a car accident.

Instead, her best friend Ryan died. Almost a year after the accident, she meets a new boy, Dez. When she looks into his eyes, she feels like she can see into his soul.

I chose to participate in this book tour, because the story sounded unique to me and it is. However, even though the beginning of the book started off well, it began to drag a bit for me after the accident.

I regained interest around half-way through once the relationship between Dez and Lexi is more established. She has a great voice. I liked Dez, but felt like he lacked conviction at times. If I were Lexi, I would have been overloading Dez with questions from the past, but she never really talked much about it.

Instead she seemed satisfied with getting her answers from the dreams she kept having over and over again. There were a few more lulls to the story for me after that, but I liked the last few chapters once Dez and Lexi are reunited. The epilogue left me feeling a bit confused though. Regardless, I AM interested in reading the next book in the trilogy to see how the ending ties into the overall plot. It appears that there may be more intrigue to this story as it develops. Looking forward to it! A captivating tale abut soul mates and true love with a plush background of history. I did, however, start to lose focus when the time would skip forward in varying amounts two weeks, a month, a few months with only a snippet of info to convey Lexi's thoughts and feelings. After that, though, the story flows more smoothly as we move forward in a more consistent pace. I personally loved all of the characters involved in Amber Eyes. The story revolves around Lexi, but she is surrounded by outstanding characters that add more personality to the story. You get the sense of strong friendships that withstand the trials of time and other hardships, becoming a family rather that just simple friends.

Lexi is a dazzling female protagonist, she helps hook the readers attention with her sarcasm, wittiness, and fierce loyalty. Regarding soul mates, Dez is the perfect match for Lexi. They compliment each other with their similarities and differences, adding a balance to their characters.

Jolyn Palliata does an excellent job of keeping Dez shrouded in a thin veil of mystery. Word of advice, don't get settled in for the apparent neat little satisfying bow because the reader will get thrown in a completely different direction that will have you gasping in anxiety for the next in the trilogy. Your horns are knocking your halo off balance. Once I read the synopsis, I knew I would be interested in this story.

The premise of the book is all about soul mates and past lives, two concepts that I love reading about. The main character is Lexi, a high school student who has some strange occurrences happen once she meets Dez. Dez, the boy with the unique amber eyes that seem to give Lexi vivid dreams after glancing at them.

Prison of Statues (The Statues Trilogy Book 1)

When Dez finally lets Lexi know they are actually soul mates, entwined from their past lives, Lexi finally feels at peace with her life. But will she and Dez be able to stay together — or is an evil being just waiting to tear them apart? I was really captured by this story, and loved learning about the past lives Lexi and Dez had lived. The supporting cast - from family, friends, even Neeko the cat — really helped make the story. The only thing that stopped me from giving Amber Eyes a five star review was the ending was a little confusing to me. This is the first book in a series so the cliff hanger makes sense, I just wished Lexi and Dez got the ending instead.

Other than that, I think this book is a must read! Looking forward to more from Jolyn Palliata. I liked Lexi as a heroine. I understood her decisions and I know I would probably make the same decision. Also this girl had a sense of humor the part with Jason as cat? I was dying, couldn't laughing. That was definitely one of the best moments in the book. Okay so he was pretty close to perfect. Except that little part towards the end where I wanted his head on the stick. But it's okay he made up for that later. He was sweet and protective and I loved him and Lexi together. They were cute as a couple. The romance in this book was cute There weren't any steamy make-out scenes which I was kind of bummed about but there is good reason why those were avoided until the end.

However, the book was still incredibly cute and sweet. However, the best part of the novel was the plot. It was so different. With most soul-mate books you see a similar events. It is part of a trilogy so the story isn't done. There is or will be more to read! Anyone who may have read both is going to see the similarities. There were some things I felt were missing for example this may not be important to some readers but there is never a physical description given of Lexi. Secondly for a high school student she interacts with her mom maybe twice in the whole book. I also wished it expanded at little more on Lexi and Dez's courtship. One minute they're shy and holding hands and in the next paragraph we see them in a full relationship. The overall story was good, I wish the danger with Tobias which was Dez's main concern would have been stronger, the book just basically ends with a weak cliffhanger.

And for all Lexi'z heartache over Dez leaving her she forgives him awfully fast. I enjoyed reading this, I liked how their relationship was realistic with real arguments just like any other couple. The new take on reincarnation was interesting. I would definitely read the second book I just hope we can see more of the secondary characters like Jayson and Britney's relationship though I doubt it because it's written from Tobias' POV. He had not known of his son's existence until this point. This child was conceived while Gavin was betrothed to Karris White Oak, a member of his Blackguard, the most elite military force in the world.

She gives Karris a note concerning Gavin's unfaithfulness, to be read after leaving the Chromeria. Gavin is sent somewhere else to keep the two separated, but instead chooses to bring Karris to Garriston himself before she can read the note, using a mode of transportation no one else even believes possible: This allows them to enter Tyrea in hours, rather than the month or so expected otherwise. As they draw closer, Karris sees smoke, and directs them to the former town of Rekton, which has been burned to the ground by Tyrean soldiers.

They are just in time to save a teenager from being executed, killing several of the Satrap's personal bodyguards in the process. Gavin is then confronted by the irate Satrap himself, who calls himself King Garadul and his Satrapi a true independent nation. The town was burned on his order, as an example, due to their refusal to pay levies.

Tyreans are treated with little respect outside of Tyrea and have no true color on the spectrum. Garriston, the country's only port, is under a rotating occupation from the other Satrapies. King Garadul plans to continue the march of his largely conscripted army to Garriston and seize it, and from there, break the Chromeria's rule over the world. The child is revealed to be Gavin's son, Kip. Following some debate, heated words, death threats and magic missiles, Kip and the Prism are allowed to leave together. However, the king takes a box from Kip which he claims was stolen from him.

The box contains a white dagger given to Kip by his dying mother, who——through curses and abuse——made him promise to kill the man responsible. Away from all this, Karris reads the note given to her by the White, and is angered by Gavin's betrayal, his lies about it when breaking their engagement, and the White's attempts to manipulate her into forgiving him.

Because of this, she ultimately refuses Gavin's offer of assistance the rest of the way to Garriston, opting to explore Rekton while Gavin brings Kip back to the Chromeria. She is eventually captured by king Garadul, while Corvan continues to Garriston. While Kip is entered into the Chromeria, shadowed by the Blackguard commander Ironfist, Gavin does a favor for Corvan's daughter Liv in exchange for her teaching Kip, as they are the only Tyreans in the Chromeria. He then enters a prison hidden deep in the Chromeria, containing his brother, whom he has secretly imprisoned in a cell in which nothing but blue luxin can be drafted.

It is then revealed that the Prism is in fact Dazen, having stolen his older brother Gavin's identity. When Dazen became Gavin after the war, he chose to break off Gavin's previous betrothal to Karris despite his own feelings, truthfully denying any affairs. The prism interrogates his brother about both Kip and the dagger, which Gavin calls "your death coming.

When he mentions the box Garadul took from Kip, Andross immediately asks if it is "the white luxin," a supposedly mythical substance. His brother Gavin was aware of it as well, and Andross——not knowing Dazen isn't Gavin——assumes he knows what it is. Andross Guile orders his son to defeat Garadul's armies, but at all costs retrieve the dagger.

Kip, the Prism, Ironfist, and Liv leave for Tyrea to defend Garriston from Garadul's armies, sinking several pirates along the way. Corvan reaches Garriston at about this time, and agrees to lead the city's defense. Despite their real-world friendship, the Prism and Corvan must pretend to hate and distrust each other deeply. Liv questions her father about it, but he refuses to tell her the truth. She assumes the Prism is blackmailing him with her life, and silently vows to make him pay. Liv and Kip run away to free Karris from Garadul's captivity.

Ironfist leaves a few hours later, to see to their survival. Liv infiltrates successfully, while Kip is recognized and captured, though not before drafting sub-red for the first time. Karris, meanwhile, is taken to meet Lord Omnichrome, a color wight who heads Garadul's drafters. She recognizes him as her brother Koios, thought-killed by Dazen in overzealous self-defense before the war.
