Gospel of Luke 1: And John bore witness, "I saw the Spirit descend as a dove from heaven, and it remained on him. I myself did not know him; but he who sent me to baptize with water said to me, 'He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain, this is he who baptizes with the Holy Spirit. Jesus answered, "Truly, truly, I say unto you, unless you be born again of the water and the Spirit, you cannot enter into the kingdom of God" Gospel of John 3: On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and proclaimed, "If any one thirst, let him come to me and drink.
He who believes in me, as the scripture has said, 'Out of his heart shall flow rivers of living water [Ezekiel Gospel of John 7: Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. And when he comes, he will convince the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment.
The Spirit of Christ:
Gospel of John He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you. All that the Father has is mine; therefore I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you. Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained. And suddenly there came from the sky a noise like a strong driving wind, and it filled the entire house in which they were. Then there appeared to them tongues as of fire, which parted and came to rest on each one of them.
And they were all filled with the holy Spirit and began to speak in different tongues, as the Spirit enabled them to proclaim. Then the Spirit said to Philip, "Go up and join this chariot. If we are living truthfully, we will experience our conscience as a gentle invitation persuading us to do good. When we are not living truthfully, we will experience our conscience as a source of guilt. Following the Light of Christ can lead us to peace and greater understanding, while acting against what we know to be right leads us to distress and confusion and is often the beginning of greater problems.
Large, ominous problems typically begin as small, simple ones.
Spirit Of Christ
Note the following example of a prompting of conscience, a situation most of us can identify with:. My wife had asked if I would rock our baby Rachel to sleep. I knew I should, but I really wanted to watch the football game. I quickly settled on a compromise: I could take the baby into my room, watch the football game on the portable television, and rock her to sleep at the same time.
A real win-win situation!

G. THE SPIRIT OF JESUS
Rachel began to fuss. In fact, knowing Christ by the Spirit is no less advantageous than knowing Christ in the flesh, as the apostle Paul can testify Gal 1: Whenever we walk or live in the Spirit of Christ, we have a direct connection with Heaven, and even the angels ascend and descend to serve us Heb 1: No longer should we regard the Holy Spirit as merely the mysterious force or power of the Old Testament.

He is in fact the very presence of Christ with us Col 1: But if we seek anything or anyone other than Christ, we are bound to receive a spirit of deception. Loyal Member Aug 13, For my little brain I will still look at them as the same: Loyal Member Aug 14, Yes I find this approach a little confusing too.
When you say "Christians do not merely receive the Holy Spirit of the Old Testament but the Spirit of the New Testament" it sounds like there are two different spirits. My understanding is that there is one spirit - and the authors of the the bible use different expressions - Spirit of the Lord, The Holy Spirit, Spirit of Christ, The Spirit - depending on context and on the aspects of the Holy Spirit's nature that they needed to emphasise. The Spirit that hovered over the waters in Genesis 1 is the same Spirit that with the bride says "Come!

Member Aug 15, The post touches upon why the authors of the Bible used different expressions, because there is a difference. Some people want to receive the Holy Spirit of God but want nothing to do with Christ. These people don't realize that they need the Spirit of Christ who is the mediator between God and man. Loyal Member Aug 15, And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ. There is a big difference between the Old and New Covenants. The Spirit could not live inside anyone under the old covenant because the Spirit was not the Spirit of Christ.
To say that we receive the same Spirit as under the Old Covenant is basically to deny everything that Christ did on the cross, because the Spirit is all about Christ John The Spirit is all about Christ because it is the Spirit of Christ. Not that you are saying that, but as a hypothetical I say this.
Under the Old covenant, the Spirit is not referred to Christ in any way. None the less, it has been and currently is all of God! Active Member Aug 15, I do not think there is a difference between the two.
Anyway theological arguments about the nature of God and the Trinity aside Therefore the Holy Spirit is not merely the creative Spirit who hovered over the waters in Genesis, nor just the still small voice who spoke to Moses on the mountain in the midst of thunder and lightning.
