Sharp took me out of this world and on an adventure unlike any other with this tale. It was simply magical. The tale was vividly beautiful yet the heaviness of the Dark Court shines through. Not only was the world well developed and the scenery vivid, but the plot was intense. It definitely brought me to tears. It was fantastic Holy smokes!

Bran was such a fantastic hero. His pride, courage and strength allowed him to stand out while his hidden emotions had my heart breaking for him. Goodness but I loved these two. Sharp has definitely outdone herself this time. I love fantasy and romance and the way that she melded them together was fantastic. This one will be loved by teens and adults alike.

I have to say And it WAS good, just not the amazing, life-changing good I really hoped for. I liked the the description of the worlds as expected because really how many people can do descriptions like Anthea Sharp , I liked the way the author created a new re-telling of Beauty and the Beast.

One pretty removed from the original story and yet still with pretty obvious connections. I guess my big I have to say I guess my biggest complaint would be that because the story is quite short, it wasn't fleshed out and explored to its potential. There were places where I felt like there was too much information about the legend or the worlds being spit out to either the reader or Mara. I wish that could've been intertwined more seamlessly. I also feel like the romance didn't hit its full potential and seemed kind of shallow because of the short length.

The take on the elf world was really cool. I haven't read tons of books with elves in them but they seemed pretty unique to me. As well as the enemies the Dark Elves were fighting against which I would have loved if they'd been explored more. Descriptions, although wordy some of the time, were on point. I could see the dangerous, dark vitality of the elf world so well it was like I was there. And I kinda wish it hadn't stopped right after the climactic ending.

Like guys, I need more.

When the book is through the mortal women's viewpoint, the story is strictly through her perspective. Thoughts of others are not interspersed with hers; we move along the story with her view of reality.

Although the Prince has his own moments of introspection, they are nothing to Mara's. And the description of the Dark Elves so now I know why they are called that! These are not the elves of Tolkien! Elfhame by Anthea Sharp has it all, suspense, action, romance and even different species. A prophecy brings together Brann, a dark elf, and Mara, a mortal young woman. She visits the Darkwood at the edge of the village at night and follows some lights which lead her to a keyhole which the key fits into, and she is immediately transported across the border to an alternate world, that of the dark elves of the Court of Hawthorne. There she meets Bran who has been waiting for her as she is the girl of prophecy and it is the Prince's destiny to marry a mortal woman to save Elfhame from the void which was becoming evermore dangerous to the realm.

This turned out to be a truly magical love story, full of wonder and enchantment. Beautifully descriptive narrative which brought the Hawthorne Court to life in all it's beauty. I love the way Anthea Sharp writes about the lands of the Fae, she really captivates my imagination and I can never have enough of her books, I look forward to reading the next book in this lovely series. In this story, an unlikely bond is prophesied between a mortal girl and a Dark Elf Prince that would save the realm. I would recommend this book to fan of dark fae and elflore. Fun and imaginative I really enjoyed this book a lot, as it was different and well written. There were a couple of grammatical errors, and an overuse of the word "strange", but all in all, a fun read. I feel like this book was either too short, or would have been better suited as a series of it's own, as events seemed to happen rather quickly.

Still, it was a great read! Dec 23, Elizabeth rated it liked it Shelves: Interesting but too short to really get into the story. Sep 07, Amber Daniels rated it it was ok. Not bad I would tell friends about this book. Mar 14, Mary rated it it was amazing.

Brannon is selfless, strong, and bold. He does what he wants and he feels is best for everyone not just himself. While he isn't your typical hero he certainly captured my heart. For me, this book did not do it for me. Fairyland may be referred to simply as "Fairy" or "Faerie," though that usage is an archaism. It is often the land ruled by the " Queen of Fairy ," and thus anything from fairyland is also sometimes described as being from the "Court of the Queen of Elfame " or from Seelie court in Scottish folklore.

The Scots word elfame or elphyne "fairyland" [3] has other variant forms, attested in Scottish witch trials , but Elf-hame or Elphame with the - hame stem meaning "home" in Scots were conjectural readings by Pitcairn. Records of the Scottish witch trials reveal that many initiates claimed to have had congress with the "Queen of Elfame" and her retinue. On 8 November midwife Bessie Dunlop , a resident of Dalry , Scotland, was accused of sorcery and witchcraft.

She answered her accusers that she had received tuition from Thomas Reid, a former barony officer who had died at the Battle of Pinkie 30 years earlier, and from the Queen of "Court of Elfame" that lay nearby. Allison Peirson was burned as a witch in for conversing with the Queen of Elfame, and for prescribing magic charms and potions Byre Hills, Fife, Scotland.

In the medieval verse romance and the Scottish ballad of Thomas the Rhymer the title character is spirited away by a female supernatural being. Although identified by commentators as the Queen of Fairies, the texts refrain from specifically naming her or her domain except in ballad version A, in which she is referred to as the Queen of Elfland.

Poet and novelist Robert Graves published his own alteration of the ballad, replacing her name with "Queen of Elphame":. Elfhame or Elfland, is portrayed in a variety of ways in these ballads and stories, most commonly as mystical and benevolent, but also at times as sinister and wicked. The mysteriousness of the land, and its otherworldly powers are a source of scepticism and distrust in many tales. Additional journeys to the realm include the fairy tale " Childe Rowland ", which presents a particularly negative view of the land.
