According to music critic Ian MacDonald , the song:. The song was recorded on 16 October In , the original stereo mix of "Day Tripper" was included on the US album Yesterday and Today , and in November of that year the song was remixed, for the stereo version of the British A Collection of Beatles Oldies compilation. The remix also appears on the Past Masters compilation, first released in Both stereo mixes contain some noticeable engineering errors.
MacDonald highlights a "bad punch-in edit", at the 1: The drop-out was fixed for the release of the compilation 1 , by copying the required sounds from another point in the song. These videos, along with a batch of other mimed performances including the song's flip-side, "We Can Work It Out" , were meant to be sent to various television music and variety shows, to air on those programs in lieu of personal studio appearances.
The Beatles' decision to send out independently produced videos to promote their music on television was, in practice, an embryonic form of the modern music video — George Harrison would later remark jokingly that the Beatles had "invented MTV. Paul McCartney has performed the song live in concert in Buffalo Springfield also uses the riff on the track "Baby Don't Scold Me" from the original mono pressing of their debut self titled album.

Revolution in the Head: How did they do it?!?!! There are lots of riffs like that eg roadrunner, dizzy miss lizzy — the trick is to come up with a new one.
DT is more complex than those. And later Paperback writer. Also on Shea stadium they do the riff of roadrunner on Dizzy mids Lizzy and lapse into sort of pretty woman. And again PW on Hollywood Bowl.

It took me a long time to get it, but I learned to both play the riff and sing it at the same time. The trick, for me, was to master the riff until I could play it without thinking about it.
Day Tripper
Same with Twist and Shout for me, anyway. If I could do it, anyone can. I was formerly known as BeatleBug. I changed my name. After having had many bashes at it, I am now sort of able to play and sing at the same time. John must have had a hard time singing and playing that riff at the same time. The interpretation of Day Tripper as being a drug song is not entirely convincing.
She fools around but leaves the singer frustrated. Keying on that, a day tripper and Sunday driver might be one who drives has sex with no intended destination orgasm. It may be ambiguous or not carefully worked out. After all, why should they have been concerned about any of that? Many Years From Now. Usually on a ferryboat or something.
All We Are Saying: Whatever reason made the so called glitch I read that Emerick said that they would leave some mistakes of one or other reason into a song if it sounded good, sometimes; the record came out like this so maybe they thought.. If half the sleeves credit it one way and the other half the other way, that would reflect confusion as to which side WAS better while also showing that, despite that conclusion, one was still named A side and the other B side.
In the late fifties and early sixties Ricky Nelson had several hit singles where both sides were popular and were played as the A side. I think the difference here is that while Ricky had both sides played as much as each other, still one side was designated as the A side. No need to respond.
Wiki gives the guitar solo to John with George playing the ascending notes to the climax. I think I read as much in Revolution in the Head. Actually, the solo sounds more like Paul to me. I recall that John mentioned in one of his post-Beatles interviews that the battle for A-sides was an early tension between he and Paul. And John slipped into a more drug induced passive position.
Got a good reason Paul solo For taking the easy way out John on melody, Paul on lower harmony — very unusual. The same pattern is kept through all the song search for vocal only edits of this song and you may confirm it. Paul has a few solos, John does most of the melody… I consider this a co-lead. If I Fell, definately a Lennon lead throughout even though the verses sound like either one is singing lead.
John sings harmony lead vocal.. Lennon was the master at singing lead harmony vocals.. I think this is what made their vocals so unique, they could flip flop vocals on chorus and verses equally. Paul plays a different bass line for chorus 2 then goes back to the original line for chorus 3, just to screw with your head. Either that or he got confused. But the recording could be different of course.
Great song, maybe more of a Lennon composition, but McCartney is lead vocalist in parts.
Day-tripper
This is one half of a great double A side. Absolutely love this song — can never hear it too often. John should have sung lead on this throughout on the record. It would have sounded better. Check out Beatles in Japan doing Day Tripper on dailymotion. Why did he let Paul sing co-lead on the record, especially the opening line as a result in the mimed videos the camera lingers on Paul? And John found it hard to get back on the A-side thereafter. Tougher, rougher and more exciting than the single which I always thought was too clean.
We apologize for the inconvenience...
That opening riff needed more meat. I love the lead guitar solo in this. Strange because I hear Paul singing the first line to all the verses them John joins him on the second part of the verse. Not sure what actually constitutes the lead in that scenario. I believe it was. I vaguely remember my older brother talking about it after being at that show.
Latest Rolling Stone interview with Macca Aug has him recalling how much he resisted playing this in his current set list, because of the bass and vocal difficulty. Claims the band verbally beat up on him to get it included. One of their best!!!! His lead playing was usually more assertive, rhythmic, and dirty not necessarily a bad thing by any means. I wish they listed the credits for who played what for each song on each album in the liner notes when they first came out, like the Rolling Stones did for Let It Bleed and Sticky Fingers and other artists did for their albums.
Arguably, one of the greatest guitar riffs ever. Day Tripper was [written] under complete pressure, based on an old folk song I wrote about a month previous. It was very hard going, that, and it sounds it. It wasn't a serious message song. It was a drug song. In a way, it was a day tripper — I just liked the word. That was a co-written effort; we were both there making it all up but I would give John the main credit.

Probably the idea came from John because he sang the lead, but it was a close thing. We both put a lot of work in on it. Including the lick, the guitar break and the whole bit. It's just a rock 'n' roll song. Day trippers are people who go on a day trip, right? But it was kind of — you know, you're just a weekend hippie. Day Tripper was to do with tripping. Acid was coming in on the scene, and often we'd do these songs about 'the girl who thought she was it' But this was just a tongue-in-cheek song about someone who was a day tripper, a Sunday painter, Sunday driver, somebody who was committed only in part to the idea.
Whereas we saw ourselves as full-time trippers, fully committed drivers, she was just a day tripper. I remember with the prick teasers we thought, That'd be fun to put in. That was one of the great things about collaborating, you could nudge-nudge, wink-wink a bit, whereas if you're sitting on your own, you might not put it in.
