Vale takes her readers back to Bridgewater in this novella, which can be read as a stand-alone or as part of the amazing Bridgewater Brides series. In this novella we are captivated by two very strong alpha males and one woman who is doing her best to grow into her own.

The depth given to the heroine is not something that one sees often in stories of this time period and certainly not played on as such, but when it is done well as it is in this story it is amazing. This story is not for the faint of heart but it is hot, involves some spanking and even a little necessary murder. Pick this one up for a hot thrill.

Stolen Brides Modern mini series

She wasn't irritating or blindly stubborn but quietly determined to escape being married to the Comte. The sexual tension that develops is lovely. The story moves quickly and there's lots of action interspersed with the romance. The only complaint I have is that I felt the author put too many subplots into the story; which all resolved conveniently at the end. Too many coincidences which made the story less plausible.

Otherwise a wonderful read. Copy gifted in exchange for an honest review Jul 04, John rated it it was ok. I thought it would never end This book was a chore to read. The events were redundant, the plot predictable, and the characters boring. I quit reading it several times, because it just wasn't a good story, but felt I owed it to the author to finish. I wish I had those hours of my life back. I just cannot understand all of the five-star reviews. Jun 20, Zoe rated it liked it. I would give this book 3. The first half of the book was very hectic, with a lot of fighting scenes, running away, blade waving.

The relationship between lead characters takes a back seat in the first half. The author spent a lot of pages describing why they were where they were and not enough time for my taste to illustrate the relationship. I had trouble picturing Darach in my mind. Too many words about everything and everyone that is around the lead characters but not eno I would give this book 3. Too many words about everything and everyone that is around the lead characters but not enough about the lead characters.

I went through the first half quickly. In the second half things picked up. The relationship was on the stage. Both Darach and Laurien are likeable characters. It made me happy to read about the time they spent together. I have no problem with the fact that Darach is "married" with a son. His marital status is, in Facebook lingo, "complicated". But such things don't bother me so much as long as I am convinced that the lead characters truly care for each other. Shxt happens in life and you count yourself lucky when you get a chance to make things better. I feel that the plot is very simple, with a lot of unnecessary secondary characters and plot twists.

It is basically Darach kidnapping Laurien and planning on returning her to her evil betrothed after the political situation had been rectified. Evil betrothed came after Laurien and Darach must decide what to do with Laurien. To return her means his heartbreak and to keep her means the downfall of Scotland. The story does not feel very Scottish. Some plots with great potential were described minimally whereas politics and warring were written about in rather great length.

Overall an OK read. The rest is rather uninteresting but necessary to build the story. But I have read pretty good stories which do deserve 4 stars and this story kind of fall short, which is a real shame because I like Darach and Laurien a lot as a couple. I have previously listened to and reviewed two books from this series: I enjoyed them and Shelly's writing so much that I absolutely had to pre-order this one and start reading it on the day it was released.

I just couldn't wait to delve into it and I wasn't disappointed. The story was a delicious treat, well-paced with plenty of action and swoon-worthy scenes. I just couldn't wait, so this is actually the first Shelly Thacker book that I've read instead of listened to. I am happy to report that while I missed Julia Motyka's narration, it was still a most delightful read.

Each of the books in this series can be thoroughly enjoyed as a standalone as the romantic relationships and the development of the plot are fully contained within each of the installments. I would be remiss if I did not mention the cover - the lovely model, the view, the plaid, the sky, the castle all illustrated in such beautiful, vivid colors - caught and held my eye and my imagination.
