Canadians of Japanese descent were treated as Americans notoriously were, interned even more harshly if possible. And at war's end, treated even more abominably. They were evidently given two choices, neither of which was to attempt to reconstruct their lives in Vancouver, say, but either to move to eastern Canada or be "repatriated" to Japan. But don't look too long. When I saw the title and read the blurb back of the book , I immediately wanted to read it. I tend to be drawn to stories that focus on the human struggle and emotion, along with personal growth, and I believe this story illustrated that. I also began to see the frustrations, many, especially the older generation, had due to a loss of culture and life before the war.
