Nora's hopeful, open-hearted character is beautifully depicted. Plotwise, though, the story is a bit of a letdown. There was a problem adding your email address. Be the first to discover new talent! My Secret Guide to Paris: Description Nora loves everything about Paris, from the Eiffel Tower to chocolat chaud. Of course, she's never actually been there -- she's only visited through her Grandma Sylvia's stories. And just when they've finally planned a trip together, Grandma Sylvia is suddenly gone, taking Nora's dreams with her. She's just a wee babe now.
I dream of taking a trip to Paris with her when she's older, like Nora and her mother do in this book! As Grandma Sylvia said, "Right now, it's just a dream, but dreams come true every day. Nov 22, Christie Owens rated it it was amazing Shelves: I love this little book. I am taking my granddaughter to Paris this summer. She'll be 11 years old. I had been wondering about what she would like to see, but now I have no worries. We will do most of the things Nora did, including a trip to Monet's home in Giverny. Nora and her mother discovered more than the beauty of the Paris that I also love.
This is a touching book about courage and love. It was adorable and fun and also made me cry multiple times. More depth than I expected when I first picked it up. I would definitely read it again, especially when I get the desire to "travel" to Paris. Feb 19, Delilah rated it really liked it. This book is so wonderful.
Questions?
It's a story of a mother and daughter kindling a bond that will last a lifetime. You fall in love with the characters just as much as you fall in love with Paris! Highly recommend this sweet, short book. Feb 20, Tami rated it it was amazing. My daughter and I both read this book. We both really enjoyed the story, characters and setting. Lots of good life lessons in this book.
Jul 21, Kristen rated it it was ok. A cute, light read, but nothing remarkable or particularly memorable except the descriptions of the chocolate they ate in Paris.

Nov 13, Geraldine Lopez rated it it was amazing. It was a great book. Mar 13, Kaitlyn Duff added it. This book is a really fascinating book. The main character in this book is Nora. Some other characters in the book are Justin and Faye, which are her brother and mom. Two other characters that we met in the beginning of the story were Phoebe and Alice, which are sisters.
One of the most important characters in this book other than Nora is Grandma Sylvia. Nora loved spending time with her grandma. Every month she looked forward to the first weekend so she could stay with her grandma. Nora's mom, Faye, doesn't have a very good relationship with her mother since she got a divorce.

Grandma Sylvia is a fashion designer and goes to Paris two or three times year. Nora has been wanting to go to Paris ever since her grandmas has been telling her very fascinating stories. Nora told her that for her 12th birthday, a trip to Paris would be her belated birthday gift. The first week of January was coming up and Nora couldn't wait to see her grandma. A few days before the weekend Faye got a call that Sylvia has been hit by a car and died immediately. Nora was very devastated because now she couldn't go to Paris. Faye got to go to her Mothers house in Connecticut to collect things she wanted to keep and she took Nora with her.
The first place that Nora went was Sylvia's bedroom. At the end of her bed there was a trunk, Nora opened the trunk and found an envelope with her name written on it and a metal box that was locked. Inside the envelope were three plane tickets and a treasure hunt for Nora. It was the end of March and after a bunch of discussion Faye decided that they would go on the trip to Paris and Justin could come to.
Nora was really excited and was looking forward to the treasure hunt. When they arrived in Paris the went to their hotel room and then went out to eat. The next day while their mother went to a doll museum Justin and Nora got to travel around the city alone. When they were riding the metro they met sisters that were around their ages.
Alice and Justin went off alone and Nora and Phoebe started the treasure hunt. They decided to go to the first three places. Everywhere they went, the people they were supposed to meet wouldn't give Nora the gifts unless her mother was with her.
Nora really didn't want to tell her mother about the envelopes that she found in the trunk. Eventually Nora told Faye and they went on the treasure hunt. They both really enjoyed it and got to know a lot of things about each other that they didn't know. The last stop of the treasure hunt was to go to a fashion show.
Faye really didn't want to go to the fashion show, but Nora talked her into it. It turned out they had front row seats and the fashion show was dedicated to Sylvia. When they got back home to New York Nora waited to open the box. When she finally opened the box, inside was a boom that Sylvia read to both Faye and Nora. I would recommend this book to anyone in fourth grade and older. One reason why I recommend this book is because it shows you to enjoy and make the most if the life you had. Faye used to be really close to her mom, but that changed when she got a divorce.
Once Sylvia passed away, Faye felt guilty for not making up to her mother. Another reason why I recommend this book is because it describes other places like Paris to you. When I read this book it went into great details about what Paris looked like and how the weather was there. The last reason I would recommend this book is because it is very adventurous. Sylvia set up a treasure hunt and they had to travel around a very big city to find everything.
Along the way there were also many great friendships that were formed. Nov 14, Taylor Welling rated it really liked it. Nora is deviated but still wants to go to Paris. After her mom decides to let her and her mom go, Nora suddenly find a box with a treasure hunt in it from grandma Sylvia. Nora wants to know what it is but the box says it is only for Paris. When Nora is at Paris, she does the treasure hunt and finds the greatest gifts. Will this help with Nora sadness? I love this book very much, I always found it very interesting when I was reading it. I disliked the book though because sometimes it was very sad about the death of grandma Sylvia.
Paris is so cool in the book so I would give this a four out of five stars! I would recommend this book to someone who likes to travel, and loves Paris!
I would also recommend this to someone who just wants to find a book to read and be very interested. This book was so good, and in the future I would maybe like to read it again! Oct 11, Ashlyn rated it it was amazing. A girl named Nora loves to go to her grandmother's house, and dreams of going to Paris someday. Until her grandmother gets Nora, Nora's mom and herself to go to Paris in March. Unexpectedly, Nora's grandmother dies in a car accident. Nora is devastated not only about her grandmother, but that she cannot go to Paris.
While looking for things at her grandmother's, Nora finds a box that she opens up The book My Secret Guide to Pairs by Lisa Schroeder is an amazing book that is one of my favorites. While looking for things at her grandmother's, Nora finds a box that she opens up and finds tickets to Pairs. She also finds clues to start a treasure hunt for herself and her mother.
When they are about to go, they take Nora's brother with them because they have an extra ticket. After getting there, Nora and her mother go to every location that they need to that is on the scavenger hunt. Nora and her mother are sad and happy in the story, but when they go back home, their happy memories return! I really enjoyed this book, and I plan to read all of the other book that she have wrote.
I like her style of writing because the chapters are long, but not too long. It's the perfect amount of pages and chapters. I like destination books because it gives me a little information about some places that I might want to visit one day. I also might enjoy it a lot more if I learn about it first. I personally loved this book, but that is just my personal opinion.
I defently recommend this book to anyone who likes books that like learning a little bit about something in a form of a made up story. Even if you don't like books that teach you something, and you only like book that are entertaining you will like this book. You are learning something even though you don't even know.
This book is amazing and I think that anyone could love it as much as I did. Nov 15, Gabrielle Coleman rated it it was amazing. Nora, a twelve year old girl, has been to Paris many times but only through her grandmother's stories.
