Our poor eating habits are hard to correct when corn syrup is in almost all of our foods, GMO corn is in almost all of the crops within the United States, and all of our water sources are being polluted. Jane Goodall explains the issues in easy to understand terms, and offers plenty of guidance to make better, more educated and mindful decisions on where, and what we eat and drink.
By following her instructions, we are promising our families healthier and longer lives. For all of the information included, Harvest for Hope is relatively short and undemanding. I recommend this book to everyone. Jane Goodall does a great job in increasing my awareness of many issues I was not yet made aware.
Harvest for Hope is a must read for anyone interested in how their health is being affected by our food and water. For my full summary and highlighted spoilers check out: As most of us I have always thought of Jane Goodall as the "Ape Lady" and I was interested to see what she had to say about eating.
I saw an advertisement for this book in a magazine I subscribe to and thought it would be a good read as I began my transition from carnivore to herbivore. I became a vegan recently not because I was overly concerned about fuzzy little animals, but because I wanted to take long term control of my health. Goodall's book I'm now concerned about the fuzzy little animals.

Previous to reading this book I did want my food to be "organic", but I wasn't concerned whether I was eating Round-up Ready corn or not nor what the possible loop holes in the deifinion of organic are. Goodall's book really opened my eyes to issues that I had never thought about and how I can have an impact at my local market. In the future, I will buy my seasonal fruits and veggies from local farmers. She taught me ways that I can have an impact and make a difference on the future generations. Overall, this book was very insightful, easy to read, and I highly recommended it.

Jane Goodall, the chimpanzee lady, gives an overview of the issues with food, water, transportation of the food, etc. She does a good general job of explaining the issues. She discusses how crops are raised and used, how animals are raised and treated, genetic engineering, organic growing practices, how food is distributed, fast food and water!
She uses an anecdotal style with facts and studies to back the stories up. However, the facts are not always referenced in a way the one could easily follow up. Overall, I liked the amount of information she conveyed in a very readable way. Kindle Edition Verified Purchase. Well written and informative often frighteningly so this book offers not just the negative but provides solutions to the problems facing our planet today.

One of the things I most appreciated was the humorous vignettes sprinkled throughout. This is not a dry read but a pleasure. Her conclusions are well supported with established facts. I've considered myself to be fairly well educated when it comes to environmental issues and adhering to ethical eating habits and this book extended that education. One person found this helpful. Audio CD Verified Purchase. I wish everyone who doesn't know this information would buy this book or CD and understand the impact of our lack of awareness on the innocent. There is no wiser woman or one who is more awake than Jane Goodall.
May this open the hearts of many and evoke a more humane world! My husband and I were huge meat eaters. We were completely oblivious to factory farming and the damaging effects of meat eating on the planet. This book changed our lives. Our eyes have opened.

Candlelighters recognized three award recipients that have helped our organization continue to provide services to families. They have supported and brought joy to thousands of families during the holiday season. Six years ago, Meghan joined our Board of Directors after her son Felix survived childhood cancer. During her tenure, her leadership has helped shaped how we serve our families both inside and outside of the hospital! She continues to be a mentor to families and always advocates on behalf of the organization so that we can continue to serve families the best way possible.
New this year, Harvest of Hope ended with an After-Party. Time Machine rocked the house with throwback and modern hits which kept guests boogying on the dance floor all night. You are such a valuable resource to Candlelighters and your community.
