The Halloween section with Tootie is so great and from a technical perspective has aged so well- it literally looks like something filmed in the 90s, not the 40s. The Christmas section which introduced the classic song "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" makes this also a very memorable holiday movie. Christmas Rating Only the last 30 minutes are set at Christmas, but the classic song, and the christmas spirit makes it a christmas movie through and through. This is such a bizarre movie.

Meet Me in St. Louis

The cutsie-wootsie tone is maybe my least favorite tone. Yeah the more I think about it the more this movie is my worst nightmare. This movie disappointed me. Some people like this movie a lot, so I expected it to be better and more enjoyable than I actually thought it was. It has some OK parts like the bit where she and her Grandpa dance , but I didn't find it that enjoyable overall. Not a lot of drama or conflict.

MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS ('44): "The Trolley Song"

What conflict there is is so short-lived it feels ineffectual. I found the little girl annoying and not very appealing, so when Esther sings "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," the only emotional weight is from my previous attachment to the song, not the scene itself. This is not a film that will become a Christmas tradition for me. But this thing is undeniably magical and every moment of it remains timeless.

It's dated in a charming, wholesome way. I loved the costumes. Every word that comes out of Tootie's mouth is gold. The movie starts out light and fluffy. There is absolutely no plot but frothy vignettes.
