Mar 25, Jason Mattia rated it really liked it. As Ernesto is campaigning for class president, his dad is going into the barrio to convince dropouts to go back to school. One day there is a robbery. As Ernesto was driving away from the crime scene, he saw a hooded, tattooed man running down the street a full speed. Ernesto recognized him by his tattoo.
It was Cruz Lopez, one of the dropouts of Cesar Chavez. Cruz Lopez hung out with Paul Gonzalez, another dropout. Paul convinces Ernesto not to tell anybody about the robbery. He feels like he wants to tell someone, but he knows that Paul is paying attention to him.

Ernesto feels like he has a lot of guilt. Ernesto always helped people weather it in school or on the streets. Ernesto was very smart in school, but Paul and Cruz were street smart. The Point of view in Leap of faith is Ernesto, the main character.
Follow the Author
Loyalty, Faith, and believing in one another are all themes of this story. Ernesto was loyal to his friend and stood by their word even though he knew that he wanted to go another path. The path of faith. He wanted to help Cruz and maybe eventually get him back into the school system. The tone is very intense, it leaves you at the end of your seat for most of the time in the story because you never know if Ernesto is going to tell anybody about the robbery.
This book is an excellent choice if you are not a very fast reader. The book goes into great detail about everything that happens. If you have not read this book or any book from Anne Schraff, I suggest to give it a try. Clay Aguirre is Mira Nunez boyfriend. Mira Nunez is one of the candidate that running for senior class president.
Clay hate Ernesto, really hate him only for a stupid reason. Clay Aguirre only want his girlfriend to be senior class president just to make Ernesto feel bad. Ernesto is a really popular guy at Chavez high school so there is no way Clay will be able to stop Ernesto to be senior class president. Before the Election Day come Clay Aguirre figure out something to do which is a really good plan that might stop Ernesto to be senior class president.
Ernesto decided to step up like a man because he realizes he can be a good president. All he needs to have is a Leap of Faith. Will Clay Aguirre plan will stop him? While Ernesto is trying to run his campaign, he still worries Cruz could have been involved in the robbery, as well as stopping rumors that Clay started to hurt his election. Ernesto has a great girlfriend in Naomi, and good friends and a supportive family.
