In fact I coincidentally came upon the book via somebody who was reading a book by this author and recommended his writing.
The testimonials of many of the great orators in the book were very captivating and inspiring. They provided me with great ideas for my own story. The basic theme that runs throughout the book: Ideas are the currency of the 21st Century. A person can have a great ide I am a firm believer that timing is very very important.

A person can have a great idea but if that person cannot inspire others to buy into that idea, it does not matter. Ideas that catch are wrapped in stories by taking the "audience" on an emotional journey. Stories are dream makers. It is written in simple and entertaining prose. I thoroughly enjoyed it and am now reading Talk Like TED - the 9 public speaking secrets of the world's top minds.

Kitties go viral all the time, but I don't think they're very good storytellers. That being said, the examples and mapping out of methods was well done. For example, each of us should be spending our time and energy on what makes our heart sing or where we have the greatest passion.
I loved this book and heard it cover to cover. I highly recommend it. Or maybe I picked the wrong time to try to learn. Please just tell me how I could be better at telling stories. Which you seem to suck at. That may mean that you suck at your job.

It reminded me of the power of story and also about how I'm not good at it -- haha! This is definitely a craft I need to work more to develop and I took quite a few notes and got a lot of practical pointers from this read. It did get a little repetitive towards the end, but the fact that it was written in short chapters that are story-centric was helpful. Who knew the power of stories and the effect they have on all aspects of life? All of us should be using this power to motivate and educate. I enjoyed learning about various people, from all walks of life, who used story as the valuable asset it is to change lives.

Honestly, I didn't finish it because I felt like I was reading the same thing over and over after the first pages. I think the "secrets" are useful but you can just skim for those and pick and choose which chapters interest you.

I felt it was quickly slapped together with minimal consideration for insight in order to continue any previous writing success achieved.
I'd skip this if you are looking for insight on what makes a good story teller. I was expecting another great read with actionable advice on presentations - sadly, there was too little of that. Though I do not agree with everything that Carmine says, the kind of research that has gone into narrating the multiple stories is definitely appreciable. Embrace your roots- Struggles are often the reason for success. Chasing your dreams by keeping your surroundings and roots in isolation is a bad strategy. Accept and embrace your roots. Use the little you have to make more. And use the more you have to make the most.
Storytelling is an acquired skill- People are not born storytellers. They practice the art of telling a story over a times before they get it right. The best TED talks are rehearsed a 1, times before we get to watch them. Use simple and short words- In the book, Carmine discusses the importance of brevity. He says that the key to explaining an idea or a process is to keep it simple and short.

I would deliver four strong walls and he would use his God-given abilities to furnish the place so it felt like home. In other words, the details are missing in order to make a larger point In that respect, the book is great and earns the 4 stars. As a biography of various successful people it stinks. How do I know things were left out? I personally know one of the people mentioned in this book.
His portrayal in this book was glowing, almost superhuman. He is not superhuman. Gifted to an unusual degree? We all have our flaws and those were left out. Thus I know that the author must have left out details that did not support his basic premise. You can thank me later. After I lost my legs I got a second chance at life.
