An acorn—offering its whole existence to service so that something might grow after its death—grander and more life-giving and beautiful than it could ever see, or ever be. And the scriptures show us, it is also the way of the kingdom of God. Fall is finally here and with it the harvest.

There are many kinds of harvests. One of them happens, not in the fall, but because of the fall, the fall of man into sin. Words are like seeds. Once spoken they are planted in the hearts of the hearer. They too produce a harvest. Words can be a harvest of blessing but unloving words produce a harvest of hurt. Do you ever race ahead to do something without thinking things through first? Maybe you say something without thinking or even text it?

I tend to do that. In my excitement, I often jump into something without thinking or reading the instructions fully. So what do Christians do with a holiday that is not holy but is between? A simple Google search for raising godly children brings up a myriad of ideas and a substantial amount of resources. I lose my parental confidence in the plethora of choices. Which kid Bible is best? The questions—and options—never end. Do you wonder if you are doing enough to raise Christians of the future?

If so, here are 3 pieces of wisdom gifted to me by others that may serve as gauges for spiritual parenting. Thoughts are a part of life. There seem to be as many thoughts that come from outside us as those that begin within. My children were so excited to earn a "heartprint" sticker when I caught them doing random acts of kindness. This book is so sweetly written and encourages children and adults alike to think of others first. You can not go wrong with this book. Would make a nice Valentine's Day gift, plus you could enjoy a few minutes together with a special child reading and sharing it.

Any change to an environment can cause a change in the way that living things interact or depend on each other.

People often cut down trees to make room for farms or for houses.

  • When trees are cut down, it takes away places for animals to live and it takes away food from animals that eat the leaves or fruit from the trees. This can be very dangerous to the animals in that habitat because if they cannot eat, they will die.

    Then, the animals that eat those animals will not have food either. Sometimes making changes to an environment like cutting down many trees can cause a change in temperature or rainfall in that habitat. This will make it difficult for the plants and animals that live in that habitat because they are not used to the new temperature or amount of rainfall. Air and water pollution also cause problems for animals that live in habitats that are affected.

    Any change to an environment can cause really big problems for plants and animals in a habitat. The changes can make the plants and animals in that habitat die. We just talked about how changes to the environment can be very dangerous for the plants and animals that live in a habitat.
