Many things or people on earth attain the status of greatness from us. Has the Almighty been worthy of such acclaim from you lately? God does not need our recognition to rightly be acknowledged as great.

MacDonald expounds on the following themes:. Holiness is an attribute that sets God apart from fallen humanity.
Though it distinguishes us, it is a quality that ought to cause us to be in awe of God and to respect Him. This is one of his best books for bible study alone or in a group! I always feel the Holy Spirit speaking to me through him! Although I've enjoyed listening to James MacDonald by radio for years, this is the first of his books in my collection. I love that he writes the same way he speaks. I can almost hear his voice as I read.
Gripped by the Greatness of God – Book Review
He preaches and teaches with power. His style is never condescending, but more like a passionate friend who wants nothing more than to encourage you to be all that you were created to be. This book is definitely a keeper and as soon as I finished it, I bought one for my friend. It was enlightening, convicting, comforting, and includes things to do to help apply the teaching to one's life Don't miss this one.
Inspired by it, convicted by it and then directed what I need to do to change and it gives hope. This book moves from scholarly to dramatic and familiar, and back. It puts the knowledge of the theologian in human, everyday terms. It puts the relationship with God right where it should be- up close and personal. When I first read this study, I had seen God change my life in some drastic ways and reshape my patterns pretty thoroughly.
Yet I was without much spiritual excitement and joy, and had grown apathetic. What was left, really, now that I had it pretty much figured out? The content of this book brought me under fresh conviction, and was the catalyst for a period of wonderful but very difficult growth that has reshaped me all over again.
I'm currently reading through it again, and it surely won't be my last time. May 03, Kevin rated it really liked it. This was a great study that moved me to action in one area already! May 06, Margo Berendsen rated it it was amazing Shelves: This review is completely cheating, because it's all gonna be quotes instead of my own thoughts. My thoughts simply can't say anything better than the text already does. The whole book is magnificent and provoking, not just thought-provoking but heart-and-soul provoking.

Gripped by the Greatness of God - Member Book by James MacDonald (2005, Paperback)
On the day that God called Isaiah into ministry, He gave him an unparalleled, unprecedented, private tour of His heavenly throne room. And Isaiah was changed forever by what he saw. This same vision is one that we desperately need in the church today. Such a view of God rocks your world and turns your faith upside down… but wow, right side up.
Christianity is not a prescription for behavior; it is a holy encounter. Refuse shallow, one-way thinking about God.
Can you imagine how small God would be if we could comprehend all that He allows and why? It only makes sense that an element of mystery surrounds God. Jan 30, Scott rated it really liked it. James MacDonald takes us through 6 passages in the book of Isaiah that highlight the greatness of God. He explains the meaning of the passages to the people of Israel and translates it into applications for today. His passion and vigor for this study is the main shining element I found throughout the book. I enjoyed his verse by verse treatment of each passage and was uplifted by his challenges to be gripped by the greatness of God.
May 01, Aaron rated it it was amazing Shelves: While it has been nearly a decade since I picked up this book, I recall being truly "gripped" by the clearer view of God that it helped me gain. Perhaps the reason the book moved me so much was that its subject was God and it was faithful to the Word and, therefore, I could not help but be awed by my God.
I still highly recommend this one to others.
