Usually rants about attic clowns, and other nonsensical things. Last week he had his followers posting pics of ladles It made me giggle. Anyway, I guess it was his quirky sense of humor and originality that made me crack open my Kindle not literally and start on Attic Clowns Volume One.

I'm very glad I did. While the stories are pretty short, they are long on entertainment and full of well written prose. I like the guy.

I like his work and I've already bought two more of his books. I'm happy I decided to give his brand of fiction a try. This is a collection of surreal stories, part horror, part creepy dreamscape. They seat themselves somewhere deep in your psyche while you read them, making you wonder if things like this could actually exist.

Each of the four stories contained within have a dreamlike quality, some more surreal than others, and they all seem related in a way, especially the first and fourth stories. Don't buy this expecting run-of-the-mill stories, instead purchase it expecting a bit of trapped-in-a-dream awesomeness. Clowns creep me the hell out, so I knew I had to read this one and it didn't disappoint.

Shipp is a master of the surreal. In this series of short stories, he has taken something already creepy clowns and uniquely portrayed them in one chilling scenario after another.

The one that really got me was the first one - Giggles the clown lives in the attic and is part of the attic. He has hair made of pink insulation and black widow spiders for eyes We're supposed to laugh at clowns. But when Jeremy C. Shipp writes about the clowns in his attic, they get really creepy. Each story is in this collection is worth the price of admission.

Bizarro fans will love these short stories. Weird lit fans who haven't discovered the Bizarro genre yet will fall in love with them. I can't recommend Attic Clowns, Vol.

Attic Clowns- Volume Four

Cool, awesome, dragon, stupendous, terrific, whatever you want to call it, Attic Clowns: Volume One is a fantastic read. I couldn't put down until I had finished it. If you're into horror you should definitely check this out, Shipp is a unique talent in the world of horror writing.

I write horror myself, but could never do what he does. I can't find the words to describe his style, it's such a mix of insanity and extreme intelligence that I've never seen before. These are some of the most unique stories I've ever read, you simply must check it out as the read is an almost impossible experience to describe.

Jeremy Shipp is one of those authors who must let themselves get lost in a story.

Attic Clowns Volume Four by Jeremy C. Shipp

Just letting go completely, diving into an impossible fantasy world, and allowing his imagination to take over. Attic Clowns in an odd, creepy, and unique cluster of stories. Twisted and weird are words that keep popping into my mind. I'd love to read what he does with longer plots. Actually - I'm afraid to. Somehow clowns are not too scary in this book. All short stories are different but tied together. See all 23 reviews. There's no flop sweat, no trying too hard, no evident strain or rookie effort. Rather, they are bold, assured and, even, restrained in terms of pacing and structure. The three stories in this book aren't about clowns.

The clowns are there to assure the reader that the ride will most definitely being going off the rails and to drive home the fact that what you see and expect is never what you get.

The stories cover two tales of loss of beloved family members and one tale of creeping paranoid madness. They are sad, funny, insightful, unsettling and energetic. And get this - Shipp knows how to write a sentence that grabs you and holds on for a while. When was the last time that you read a "horror" book and had to pause to admire a particularly deft and well made sentence?

See a Problem?

When was the last time you came across lines full of antic despair or violent whimsy? Shipp can whipsaw the reader back and forth within a single paragraph and sometimes within a single sentence. Does it all work? But it's never predictable, the pace never lags, the point is never lost, and the author never abandons you. That's good enough for me and elevates this to the level of happy, unexpected find.

Please note that I found this book a while ago while browsing Amazon Kindle freebies. I have no connection at all to either the author or the publisher of this book. Jan 10, Eric Townsend rated it it was amazing. I always enjoy reading the insane brand of humor that is unique to the dark recesses, or perhaps in his case the lighter ones, of Jeremy C.

There is probably a deeper message behind each of his tales but the clowns never let me see them fully, and maybe it is better that way.
