I have recently returned to this diet because it healed me of asthma in the past, but it came back when I went off the diet. It is the only thing that has worked for me with asthma, and I've tried a lot of things looking for a better mousetrap - lol This diet takes some effort and planning on the low calorie day- but it is worth it for me to breathe. This time around, I worked on my attitude as in "learn to like it" instead of "Oh poor me".
I recommend this diet if people want to avoid or cure chronic illness. I am on Day 27 and my asthma symptoms are greatly improved. The last time I did this a couple of years ago I was off all asthma meds by Day This morning was the first day I realized I might match that number again this time. And in the asthma study all of them were off meds by week 6, I think. I have also read of a very similar diet healing Parkinson's disease - but it was very gradual, and took over a year to reach the point of no symptoms.
This is accomplished by the release of natural human growth hormone on the fasting days. And this is verified by experiments with a mouse model of Parkinson's. And another study showed people were cured of Parkinson's via daily injections of HGH right into the brain. That also took over a year.
So apparently - Parkinson's needs HGH in the brain for over a year either through injections or via alternate day water fasting. I had daily symptoms even with Advair and it was looking like I would need to add another corticosteroid on top of that. That motivated me to go back on the diet.
I was also using albuterol once a day, at least. I was having trouble walking up even a very small hill - and if I used my rebounder for one minute I needed to stop and hack for a while I now exercise every day: I increased by over points in the first week. I am a soprano and this diet is helping me to sing again for my church. It had been many, many months since I have been able to do that.
Johnson and all of the researchers who made this information available. Mary PS - And yes - I am losing weigh, too! I have lived on this eating plan for about nine months now, so I feel like I have enough experience with it to proffer an opinion. The book itself has fewer pages than I probably would have liked, but this does enable the author to state the science quite succinctly.
A major part of the book consists of recipes that the customer can use on her "Down Day", an admittedly invaluable aid, except for those who don't like vegetables. The eating plan stands out among all of the others as revolutionary, in my opinion. I think it may hold untold potential for optimizing human health. In my own case, it seems to have brought about an optimization in blood sugar utilization.
My A1C test results went from 5. Moreover, after about the sixth week, leptin concentrations in the blood spike, leading to a curbing of the appetite. Indeed, I have found the "down" days fairly easy to do. I believe everybody should give this eating plan a chance. This book clearly explains how to undertake this diet and the science behind it.
It includes helpful recipes with calorie counts for the "fast" days. I'm into the third week on the diet and I feel great. The first down day was hard, but since then it's been surprisingly do-able. I have more energy and focus than when I started, and even on the days when I'm allowed to eat anything I want, I seem to want less.
I started this diet along with a friend, and she fell apart by the second fast day and did not continue, so I see it's not for everyone, but I think it's well worth a try.

I ignored the advice to take to slimfast type shakes on the "down" days as the boredom, for me, would set in fast.
I have a piece of fruit, a no fat 70 calorie yoghurt for breakfast, a piece of fruit for lunch and a small salad for dinner lettuce, tomato, oily fish. Yes, it would be like all diets except that you are sustained by tomorrow it is back to normal eating. To suit what I was doing one week, I tried a "down day" two days running.
It is a diet you can switch on and off with ease without feeling you need to abandon it or losing the willpower. Its joy is it is doable for the long term. You look forward to tomorrow the normal eating day and the food then tastes great. It can be a little hard getting through the day, especially if other family members are eating tempting things, but you console yourself with "it is only for today".
On the normal day I do not have the urge to overeat but if I fancy a bowl of ice cream I have it but not for the sake of it. I recommend the book which gives you the belief in the science, even though it is so easy to grasp, but do recommend trying the diet. Someone has already stated one of the reasons that this diet is so brilliant and that is that apart from buying the book [and you don't really have to do that! For every other day you have 5oo cals only but it is entirely up to you what those calories consist of.
I am on it because my mum's life was cut short by numerous health problems [including diabetes] and I really believe that this diet will help me to avoid contracting diabetes. What could be better than that??!! Kindle Edition Verified Purchase. I have been dieting for about 20 years and I've put on about 6 stones in that time. There lies my story.
I can't do diets. I do them for about 2weeks and then I give up because theyare too restrictive or I have no will power. So I've just completed my 2nd week and I've lost 6 pounds. Monday, Wednesday and fridays are my down days. I struggle with calories but seem to be ok with cals. My up days I eat what I want. My first week of this I struggled. The first two down days I took herbal life shakes. I was so hungry I pigged out at the end of the day and went to bed miserable.
The first Friday I ate food. Bouled egg and wholewheat toast and a cup of tea for breakfast.
Intermittent fasting
Lunch was g low cal soup. Dinner was quorn mince and a veg stir fry. Snacks were a clementine and apple and 2 litres of water. My first few up days weren't quite right either.

Not enough veg and too many treats. But this week I've started to get the idea and it's not a struggle. I'm using Myfitness pal to monitor my calories now and I'm trying to keep cals a day on the up days.
So overall I think I maintain this as a lifestyle eating plan and my bmi should get into the healthy range at some point In I would recommend this book to all the perennial dieters out there. Make this the last diet you ever go on. My husband and I have been following this diet for almost 3 months, well a modified version of it any way, where we fast on mondays, wednesdays and fridays as we found it much easier to leave the weekend free for eating normally.
The main reason we wanted to do this diet was for health reasons, hopefully reducing our risk of cancer, heart disease and other illnesses and for us the weight loss is an extra bonus. I don't have loads of weight to lose but I have lost about 7lbs and feel much better for it. We're eating a lot less red meat, much more vegetables and fruit and generally feel much healthier.
I've also noticed that, unlike other faddy diets, if I stray from this i. Overall I feel this has changed my eating habits for life and hopefully improved my health massively.
