He really knows how to manipulate words to bring the story to life and bring emotion and The second book in The Undermountain Saga was just as captivating as the first. He really knows how to manipulate words to bring the story to life and bring emotion and personality to the story. The characters are fun and unique. Even the villains in the story are so alive that you want to read more about them. I absolutely love the world these books are set in.
The creativeness and complexity of the society is so much fun to read about, and the myths and legends are blended in nicely. I am very much looking forward to the next book in Undermountain series to see where the characters are taken. The author was kind enough to gift me a copy of his book. Get your copy here. Shiv realizes that while acquisition of knowledge is a good thing, the path chosen to acquire it is very important. The books are about teenagers who must find their own path while dealing with issues much bigger than them. View all 6 comments. I think the only way to experience this is to read this book.
Yes this ia sequel to Undermountain yet it also proves itself as a stand alone book too. I don't say that very often about books in a series yet it's very true for this book. Here are my thoughts about this book. Emma and Danny Michaelson are planning a trip to their grandmother's house in Indianapolis.
Yet their plans hit a snag in the form of one person named Bronson. Neither Em or Danny trust Bronson but have no choice in taking him with them. Wa and Breyona are also going to be at Em and Danny's Grandmother's house. Wa is still a troublemaker as always. Breyona works with kids and teenagers in crisis which keeps her busy yet she still tries to be with Danny. Danny has been noticing a truck driving past his house alot in the last six weeks yet can't figure out what it's doing and doesn't want to worry anyone else with it.
Em and Breyona know that the police can't help them find Danny and Wa. The must return to Undermountain. They make contact with Grizz and that they need to track GorVit down. Grizz helps Em and Breyona along with a reluctant Bronson along too. Breyona fears her meeting Shaggy again yet can do nothing about it. Breyona knows that Shaggy is up to something but can't put her finger on it. What does GorVit want with Danny and Wa?
What is Shaggy's plan? Will either Danny or Breyona admit their feelings? Your answers await you in Afterlife. Afterlife is an action packed fantasy that you will not want to put down.
It is full of twists and turns that will keep you guessing. Danny, Em, Wa, and Breyona are still dealing with the notoriety of their rescue from the Canadian Rockies. They plan to rendezvous at Danny and Em's grandma's house, but things go very wrong when they are attacked. Danny and Wa are kidnapped by minions of GorVit to help retrieve a weapon that could bring about the destruction of not only the bigfeet but also the hu Afterlife is an action packed fantasy that you will not want to put down.
Danny and Wa are kidnapped by minions of GorVit to help retrieve a weapon that could bring about the destruction of not only the bigfeet but also the human race.
Will Danny be able to stop GorVit and protect the ones he loves? Through the author's creative descriptions, we are drawn into another world full of interesting creatures and ideas that will capture your imagination. I would highly recommend it and will be looking forward to what happens next in this adventure. Danny came home from school and noticed a van that he thought he had seen before. Ever since they had come back from being rescued in the Canadian Rockies, it seemed like the press followed them everywhere.
Bronson invited himself and Danny came home from school and noticed a van that he thought he had seen before. Bronson invited himself and Danny knew he had some ulterior motive, because no one liked him and there was no reason for him to want to come along. They all arrived at his Grandmas, except Breyona, who had called and told him she had an emergency so she would be late. When there was a knock on the door, Danny rushed to answer thinking it would be Breyona, but two men burst in wearing gas masks and spraying a canister at Danny. They fought but were overcome.

Bronson had run out of the house but came back just in time to stop them from taking Em or Grandma and told them to take Wa instead. When Breyona finally got to the house, she found Danny and Wa had been kidnapped. Then Breyona thought of sending a message on Twitter. She knew the Bigfoot monitored the humans so they would know what was going on above ground.
Grizz talked to them on video chat and told them to come to Undermountain, that GorVit had escaped.
Undermountain (The Undermountain Saga, Book 1)
GorVit told Danny that he had fifteen minutes to solve the puzzle of the Spheroid. He believed it to be a weapon, but when Danny figured out the puzzle he knew it was a teleportation device. He pretended it was ticking to keep GorVit away. A projection appeared, Danny and Wa ran and jumped into it, landing in a strange jungle unlike anything they had seen before. GorVit and his gunners were right behind them. Danny and Wa ran until they reached a drop-off. They could hear GorVit and the gunners coming and had no choice but to go over the cliff.

I received this book in return for an honest and unbiased review. As in the case of the first book, I just cannot find the words to describe the book. The cover and title were a continuation of the first book and I always like it when they relate to the story. I got lost in the characters and action, devouring the words to find out what would happen next. The ending will catch you off guard. I think I sat with my mouth open for a couple of minutes at a loss for words. I kept thinking — what? But do not look ahead. It is well worth the wait to get there word by word.
The Undermountain Saga: Boxed Set (Books ) by Eric Kent Edstrom
It still amazes me how the author comes up with the characters and their environment. I am eagerly awaiting the third book. So, back in February I read a rather unique bigfoot sci fi novel that I thought was really great. That novel was Undermountain. I've got to be honest, when I heard there was a sequel, I did wonder what could possibly happen now to these kids that had discovered the existence of bigfoot, and escaped to tell the tale.
I was a little worried. Turns out, the So, back in February I read a rather unique bigfoot sci fi novel that I thought was really great. Afterlife is just as great as Undermountain and just as unique. The story is once again told from the POV of our two protagonists, Danny and Breyona as they both embark upon their own adventures. Danny and Wa are kidnapped by Gor-Vit, the rogue Tangoga boss and end up on a planet of bigfeet who's existence was previously unknown and have many adventures there.
One of my favourites being a rather exciting sequence with giant beetles pulling the boys on chariots whilst they are chased and hunted by monstrous super sized bigfeet! Whilst Breyona and Em end up back in Undermountain to try and get help in rescuing Danny but run into their own problems there by way of 'Shaggy' the bigfoot who wants to conquer the world and brainwash the entire human race. The action in this book is non stop.

I never felt bored. Even at the beginning, I had hardly caught my breath before the action jumped straight in at the deep end. I was really happy that we got to revisit all the old favourites from book one, especially Wa who was my favourite character in both books and who provides some great comedic moments.
And I was very impressed with the storyline and expansion of the world building that takes place in this installment. A lot of care and attention to detail has gone into creating the creatures and planets in these books. Lastly, I can't write this review without making mention of the ending. That's all I can say. It was epic, action packed, drama filled and also rather emotional. You'll get no spoilers from me but lets just say I almost dropped my kindle in shock at one point and let out a strangled 'NOOOOOO' after reading the final sentence of the book. If you havent started this series yet, I really really recommend that you do.
There is something in it for everyone and if I was to compare it to any other YA books out there at the moment I would say fans of Michael Grant's Gone series would definitely eat this one up! The second installment in the Undermountain Saga does not disappoint. Edstrom continues with his compelling descriptions, creating many worlds so vivid that you feel like you are walking through them with the characters. His clear, flowing way with words allows you to flow seamlessly from world to world with the action of the story.
He also uses this volume to give his reader a deeper understanding of the history of the various races involved in his story. This is worked right into the action of The second installment in the Undermountain Saga does not disappoint. This is worked right into the action of the story, not breaking up the flow at all. He also kicks the intensity of the novel up a notch with this installment. There is a great deal more suspense that builds throughout the novel. By the final page it has yet to dissipate, leaving you wanting the final installment. All emotions are also more intense in this novel.
Character development also carries on in this instalment. As all the characters in the novel are in their late teens, they have many real struggles to face. This includes relationship problems and concerns, which are apparent throughout the novel. These characters are all so real that you cannot help but picture them vividly. You want to help them through their struggles, but are too involved in the story to leave your chair. Afterlife kept me captivated throughout. It is entirely unique and placed in worlds so well developed that you spend the hours that you are reading walking along side the characters.
What I liked about it: Catching up with GorVit who seemed unkillable got a little tedious. I was sorry to see this I got this book for free, in exchange of an honest review, from Making Connections YA Edition. Starkiller is the thrilling conclusion to "The Undermountain Saga".
Eric Edstrom has done a masterful job creating a wide range of characters that are multifaceted. He is also able to take you to a whole new world through his descriptive details. I enjoyed the wild ride Starkiller took me on and I would gladly read it again.
If you are looking for a book full of action, interesting characters, a little romance and suspense then this is the book for you. This is the third and final book of the adventures of a group of teenagers as they learn more about life than they had ever thought possible. I tried not to give anything away. Hunameesovenama "Shaggy" wanted them to show themselves to the humans. Danny thought they should be concentrating on Gorvit. Coming out to the humans wouldn't make a much difference if Gorvit used Starkiller to destroy the Earth's sun. Shaggy's plan was to evacuate the VIP humans to the planet Hoo, where they could be bred like cattle.
But Danny had his own plan. He would have to be secretive and sly if he was to accomplish it. Breyona awoke and Tog helped her get up. He was there to help with her plan to escape. He had to remind her that when she jumped off a wall, they had brought her back in a Breyona body, just like she wanted. But she was also Nefertiti. They were on the planet Hoo and Breyona's plan was for Tog to help her teleport back to Earth.
Danny didn't know who he could trust, but he would need help. He couldn't do this alone. If they were going to escape, they needed to do it now. Eric Kent Edstrom has the ability to create extravagant worlds with his vivid imagination. His excellent writing makes it easy to travel the Universe with Danny and his friends. They have traveled from planet to planet and back again. They have encountered unimaginable horrors and creatures beyond description. I enjoyed every minute of it. I got lost as I teleported with Danny, wondering how WE were going to save Earth and humankind from destruction.
Danny is my favorite character and when you read the books, you will know why. He never waivers in doing what he thinks needs to be done, no matter the risk to himself. The characters have everything you would want - bravery, treachery, love, hate, loyalty, friendship, heroism, egotism and selflessness. Keep in mind the characters leading these extraordinary adventures are a group of normal teenagers, thrust from their world into a world so foreign, they could never in their or my wildest dreams come up with Eric's world.
What do you expect aliens from another planet to look like? How technologically advanced do you think they would be? I received the books of the The Undermountain Saga Undermountain, Afterlife and Starkiller in return for honest and unbaised reviews. I was more than happy to share my thoughts and feelings of such an amazing series. The final installment of the Undermountain Saga blows the other two out of the water. Edstrom takes all of the events from the previous two novels and combines them for a conclusion that cannot be beat.
And that is one thing that I must commend the author on. The saga has an actual ending. Everything is summed up and no loose ends are left hanging. The characters that we have followed through the saga continue to grow as individuals. They face the hardest The final installment of the Undermountain Saga blows the other two out of the water. They face the hardest tasks and challenges so far and all rise to the challenge.
Many times they have to weigh the greater good against what is best for them and for the most part rise to the challenge. This is true for the humans, the People, and all of the other races found in these worlds. I feel like I have travelled the galaxy with the characters, visiting each and every stop on their travels. His story flows very fluidly from event to event and from scene to scene.
This novel is so well written that you never have to stop and wonder what is going on. I thoroughly enjoy the fact that Edstrom uses language that is fitting for a young adult novel. He never dumbs down what he is saying, assuming that his audience will not understand the vocabulary that he chooses. Neither does he revert to using vocabulary that will involve the constant use of a dictionary to decipher. He sticks to a middle road that is perfect for his chosen audience. The dialogue within the novel is also impeccable. The speech of each individual is tailored to fit them perfectly.
Teenagers speak like teenagers. All in all, the final installment in the Undermountain Saga was some interstellar awesomeness. It does leave me with one burning question, however. What size shoes do the People wear? The covers are out of this world amazing. Dann The covers are out of this world amazing. I wrote this book, so I think it's unbelievably awesome! The Undermountain Saga is truly a wonderful story to read. I loved the page turning that drove me to find out more! The revelations present are mind blowing from beginning to end. The story was truly cleverly crafted to make you ask questions about the choices your favorite characters made.
My two favorite characters are Danny and Breyona so much happens to them from first book to the last book. I loved their character development even if I didn't always understand the why's of it. My runner up The Undermountain Saga is truly a wonderful story to read. My runner up characters are Wa and Grizz because they also seem to know what is going on before everyont else does.
My most hated character had to be Shaggy.
