Since Osborn's defeat, Briggs has managed to become a billionaire. He shows the students several others teens tortured by Osborn, some of which have decided to use their powers to help people directly. However, when Finesse reveals that Briggs was telling lies and was using the teens for his own purposes, they attacked him. Briggs overpowers the students but ultimately lets them be taken out of his building by security stating that he could kill them if he wishes, but not today. Tigra and the students are dispatched to Washington DC to help fight Skadi and her mechanized soldiers.

Breaker of Wills while Quicksilver and Justice are taken down by Skirn: The students use the Pym Particle generators to grow out of the subatomic underspace where the Academy resides. However Greithoth sabotages the generators causing the academy to grow with them, which threatens to crush an entire city if it grows to Earthspace. Even though the plan works, Greithoth and Skirn escape. In the aftermath of the battle, Veil is angry that they were used in war, quits the Academy.

Speedball, now at peace with his past also decides to move on and return to his life as a full-time superhero with Justice. Quicksilver discovers the body of Jocasta who appears to have been slain inside the academy during the commotion. A fight breaks out between Magneto and Quicksilver that involves the rest of the X-Men and the Academy. Once the investigation continues, Pym concludes that Jocasta's attacker must have come from outside the Academy possibly from another era or dimension. One of these events is Hybrid "murdering half the Academy"; to facilitate this, Reptil begins to lead students and faculty to Hybrid one by one so that he may feed off of their powers.

Characters and Voice Actors - Marvel's Avengers Academy (Part 1)

Although I would have liked to have seen more of their beginnings it was still a good read. My only complaint is that I would like to see more of the character Madalene as she copes with her future towards the end of the book. I am so sorry this series ended so that the loathsome Arena series could get in, the character development, the stories and Gage's expertise in making me like characters I did not expect to Hazmat, Quicksiler, eg. You likely will enjoy it. One person found this helpful. Avengers Academy has been a good run. Its conclusion finds a former cadet, Jeremy Briggs, fulfilling his promises of curing team members Hazmat, Mettle, and Veil of their undesired conditions and finds many of his former associates working for him.

But when they find out that his plan is to de-power everyone, including earth's heroes, they defy his plans and have their final fallout. The kids graduate and go their own ways. I was genuinely rooting for pretty much everyone on this team, and liked this group of heroes yes, they earned their name. The final couple of issues close things down with everyone making peace with their respective decisions and has the Academy playing football the American type against Wolverine's school of mutants.

Despite some of the serious issues tackled throughout, and the character's screwed up backgrounds, the entire series maintained a light touch. It ends on the same notes. A bittersweet finale to an excellent series. The final arc was very good but felt rushed.

    Avengers Academy - Wikipedia

I wish Gage was given more time with these characters because he has crushed it. The Jeremy Briggs storyline concludes with a fantastic bang but how we got there was too convoluted. There were some big plot points that have been simmering for awhile and they all came to a boil here. The truth about the origins of the team are discussed and it seemed like it was forced due to the series ending.

DiVito and Grummett did a really good job on the art side of things. Overall, a very good book that needed more time. Sad to see the series end. Many "Avengers Academy" fans were upset when the series was canceled, even more so to pave the way for the poor "Avengers Arena.

    Avengers Academy, Vol. 1

With the Academy closed due to the battle between the Avengers and the X-Men, the students are called by Jeremy Briggs, aka Alchemist, who has developed "Clean Slate," a special way to take away super-powers. He demonstrates it on Hazmat and Mettle, allowing them to finally be human again. However, Briggs stuns supporters Jocasta and Veil by revealing he plans to spread Clean Slate across the entire world, depowering everyone and only giving powers back to those he deems "worthy.

Powerless, they have to find a way to stop Briggs. It's a terrific story with the moving moment of Hazmat and Mettle facing the choice of helping their friends or losing the normal lives they've so craved, a bold decision that rocks you. Also, a major development for Finnesse that sadly makes sense for her character. And you can't go wrong with Briggs, the classic case of "every villain is the hero of his own story" as he sees nothing wrong with "saving" the world by taking away its defenders.
