The rectory children
This book seems to be intended for year old girls and is free in public domain. In my view, the cautionary-tale plot format made the ending slightly unsatisfactory compared to the more fresh and lively beginning and middle.
Mrs Molesworth has obviously observed real children and writes with sympathy, but not quite the immersion into the childhood world of better known authors like LM Montgomery and Frances Hodgson Burnett. It was interesting enough to keep me reading, but may not hold the attention of girls who are used to more adventure and faster-moving plots in their reading.
