Elizabeth, The Enchantress by Lavinia Kent
This was a good book how ever I do wish the author would have done more to make it more interesting. I look forward to reading more of this author's work. Aug 29, Janga rated it it was ok. Elizabeth was abandoned by her husband William Beckonridge, the Earl of Westhampton, shortly after he rescued her from the aging swarm of suitors her uncle had gathered and married her. Once she saw him as her Prince Charming, but after he left her for four years to travel the Americas, Elizabeth is determined never to need or trust him again.
William is enchanted with the beautiful woman his wife has become and eager to turn their marriage in name to a marriage with full spousal privileges. The thread of troublesome prints continues in the fourth novella. Elizabeth is secretly pleased with the one that pictures her husband begging at her feet, but the one of her as suppliant is so close to the reality of the early days of her marriage that she is freshly humiliated. I found the final installment in the series a disappointment.
Part of the problem may be that the return of the roving mate requires more space for development than a novella allows. At any rate, William comes across as thick-headed and insensitive and Elizabeth seems more petulant than pitiable.
Elizabeth, The Enchantress
The resolution to the print plot was anticlimactic, and even the reconciliation of Elizabeth and Linette was more convenient than credible. Aug 30, Languid Librarian rated it liked it. Honestly, who comes up with these titles??? Elizabeth is no enchantress. What she is, is less wishy-washy than her peers. When her husband 'rescues' her from an unhappy home, marries her, and then immediately leaves on a trip that he has always dreamed of going, she is subjected to a lot of ridicule.

Men make salacious comments and offer to bring her up to speed because it is assumed that her husband wouldn't have left if he had been completely satisfied. She takes them on with attitude and coun Honestly, who comes up with these titles??? She takes them on with attitude and counters them with rumors of her own. Elizabeth holds in a lot of repressed anger. And we are not very clear why. Yes her husband went off on a trip that lasted four years. But as the hapless man keeps pointing out, his plans were common knowledge and had nothing to do with her.
She knows and we know that he married her to prevent her being sold off into matrimony to some aging lecher. So why all that angst, sistah? If she had reason to be annoyed it was that her husband rejected her virginal advances in the month after their marriage. The hero was very likable and unconventional and unashamed of telling his wife how much he cared. While it did seem unrealistic, at least it made me sigh for a man unashamed of telling everybody what he felt. That said, I like the writing. It's easy reading and there are no obvious jarring modern undertones.
I once read a Regency novel where the earl says "so long!
So I'll give grateful thanks where I must. Sep 11, Jennie rated it liked it. How is she supposed to react when the man who married her and then abandoned her without a wedding night suddenly reappears? I've read a couple of these novellas now, all are fun quick reads.
If they were full-length books, I'd probably go back and try to read the ones I've missed, but as I don't normally read novellas, I may have to just try to let my imagination fill in the blanks. They're enjoyable for a number of reasons, but mostly because Kent does a good job of ensuring that even in a novella length that there's a story and character development. This was a fun one, as the "evil" one of the group of women who make up the heroines had her turn in the spotlight. The redemption of the bad girl is essentially the theme Another fun, quick read from Kent, so far I'd recommend this whole series.
Oct 06, Alison rated it liked it. This is part of an ongoing series, but Elizabeth, the Enchantress is my introduction to the "Real Duchesses of London" series. It's a nice, light, easy read, with simple plot twists to keep things interesting, warmth, love and some darn nice sexy sex. The character development is better than you normally get in a novella, but we don't get true in-depth understanding.
I do have a issue with the use of American spelling, as someone who spells predominately using British English I find it quite jar This is part of an ongoing series, but Elizabeth, the Enchantress is my introduction to the "Real Duchesses of London" series. I do have a issue with the use of American spelling, as someone who spells predominately using British English I find it quite jarring to see "behavior" rather than "behaviour" when the scene is set in Regency England, and the characters are English aristocrats.
My only other nitpick: I think because each character has had their own book we are often given non-main characters in first person, which I found incredibly confusing more so because I had no idea who these characters are , I eventually just stopped trying to work put who was who and just relaxed into the story. I'd certainly go back and read other books in this series, it's not my normal genre, but I did throughly enjoy it.

This reformation of the "bad girl" fell a little flat in my opinion. Elizabeth wasn't a bad girl at all, simply misunderstood, which could have been cleared up through communication with her husband and her friends. I'd expected a real event to explain her tension with Lynette throughout the course of the series. Sometimes friends just don't get along, and sometimes the "drama" is manufactured as is obvious by the "Real Housewives" reality shows on tv. Still, this was a fun world to escape into, and I hope to visit it again with Ms.
Sep 25, Daisy rated it it was amazing Shelves: You may have heard me mention before that while I like the novellas I've read lately, I always have this feeling that if it was a full-length novel, it would be better. Well, maybe I was just not reading the right novella! This one didn't feel like it lacked depth at all! There were some real problems between Elizabeth and William and I loved that! I teared up a couple of times and it was wonderful! The thing is with novellas, you HAVE to get sucked into the story right away You may have heard me mention before that while I like the novellas I've read lately, I always have this feeling that if it was a full-length novel, it would be better.
The thing is with novellas, you HAVE to get sucked into the story right away, else it will be over before you know it, leaving you disconnected. I immediately felt pulled into this one and I loved that. I do think I could have benefitted from reading the previous novellas in the series in regards to the relationship of the duchesses, but well, I managed.
