Arguably the most influential figure in human history was Jesus Christ. Wars were fought in his name. In his name many nations rose, and many nations fell. Many prominent leaders gained power from him, and many others were persecuted and killed for their belief in him. It has been said The Tale of the Penitent ThiefAuthor: Young Dismas and his brother Jotham are blissfully unaware of the lifelong journey There are a lot of typos here instead of her, men instead of me, bad punctuation, etc.
The author also changes perspectives a lot, sometimes paragraph by paragraph.

The author falls into the trap of telling and not showing with his words. I can't tell you what a single character looked like. Mary was described as beautiful, the most beautifu I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review from BookLook Bloggers. Mary was described as beautiful, the most beautiful woman that one of the main characters, Dismas, had ever seen. What did she look like?

What was she wearing? How does someone look mean? Did he have any hair, any facial hair? What did he wear? Other than the same problem with no true description as all the characters had, the first encounter with him we have, he smacks Dismas upside the head. I can see an older boy doing that, or a kid the same age, but later in the book, he's described as closer to the younger brother's age, than Dismas' the two brothers have a year age difference.
I can tell you however that Jesus had the most piercing set of blue eyes ever, what he looked like besides that, still have no idea. It had so much potential! The author just took way too many fictional liberties with it though. It's the difference between Philippa Gregory's writing and this author's writing.
Research, research, and more research. Make me feel like I'm in Jerusalem at that time. Make me see it, feel it, make me be in it.

And then write the story. We don't know what the story is behind those two thieves, so there is so much potential! The writing was just so flat, and too contrived.
Aug 08, Donna rated it it was amazing Shelves: When Christ was crucified, he was hung between two criminals. Though innocent, Jesus stayed on the cross, forgiving as He died. What if you were a witness? What if you were one of the two thieves hanging beside Him? Would you think you should be forgiven? In this engaging work of fiction, Dismas and Jotham were brothers who started off right.
They even have the opportunity to meet Mary and Joseph before Jesus was born.

But, as people do, the boys made choices as they grew up that would change their lives. Sadly, those choices were not good ones. Influenced by two criminals, Tiran and Gestas, they become involved in acts that would one day pit them against each other in a battle for life. Nothing dissuades Dismas from his criminal choices, and he is hung on a cross beside Jesus after being sentenced to death by Pontius Pilate. Is Dismas the thief who realizes who Jesus is and asks for forgiveness, or is he the scoffer?
Will he learn about the ultimate forgiveness, or simply die alone?

This is a wonderful book. As a christian, I have often thought of the two thieves - how one could believe and the other continue to deny. Don Willis puts his readers into the lives of his characters and shows what leads up to that moment of decision. It is well written and interesting to read. I highly recommend it. I received my review copy from Book Sneeze in exchange for an honest review. After reading the synopsis of this book, I was very excited to read the entire story. However, I wound up being more than just a little disappointed in it.
The author has very little in the way of description when it comes to any of the characters. It would have been nice to read his view on how they looked, to help me picture them as he saw them.

Yes, it's a work of fiction, but it's based on facts, and a specific time period. Readers should feel as if they are IN that time period, IN that locationand this author just didn't do that for me. Aug 04, Tammy Elliott rated it it was ok. I read this book because someone I know handed it to me. I felt as though I were reading a child's book Although it is billed as Christian fiction and I doubt any non-Christian would stick with it, I was a little bothered by the liberties the author took with biblical characters.
But that may just be me. It had a couple of good scenes, an interesting twist near the end, but honestly if I it weren't for the friend who loaned it to me, I would not hav I read this book because someone I know handed it to me.
