The cat's hissing gave me the chills and drew me in along with the whole ambience created. We have certain assumptions about evil and the story helps you to see the witch's compassion and the inner conflicts behind her behavior. I realized how I fell into a very one-dimensional view of witches. Rayne helps us to see that a lot of our opinions may be fixed from childhood and we often still see the world through the eyes of a 7 year old.
All the stories are very good and continue to haunt.
Not only are the stories intense, but the psychological aspect is very important. The stories help us to look at our own narrow views and that can be often more disturbing than what's external. I'll be picking up volume 2, but won't read them late at night. I bought this little gem without really expecting much.. I've always loved short stories but I rarely read them more than once.
Six Scary Tales Vol. 4
This book was really good.. I caught myself wanting to read it again once it was over to look for the subtleties that I didn't see the first time through.. I love it when someone is able to pull one over on me. Do yourself a favor and buy this book.. Then read just one story each night before you go to sleep.
Let it swirl around in your mind a bit while you are trying to relax.. See if you don't appreciate the cleverness that each little treasure brings. Ken Hall no relation. Many of the stories have been previously published in magazines, ezines, collections and anthologies. Kindle Edition , Republished Edition July , 80 pages.
